imagine being at a talking heads show in 1983 and not knowing that suit was coming
Happy 5 years to an enormous little game
One thing I’ve learned about writing is ”give everything a face”. It’s no good to write passively that the nobility fled the city or that the toxic marshes were poisoning the animals beyond any ability to function. Make a protagonist see how a desperate woman in torn silks climbs onto a carriage and speeds off, or a two-headed deer wanders right into the camp and into the fire. Don’t just have an ambiguous flock of all-controlling oligarchy, name one or two representatives of it, and illustrate just how vile and greedy they are as people.
it’s bad to have characters who serve no purpose in the story, but giving something a face is a perfectly valid purpose.
being known is being loved
"i know your pizza order" "you have freckles on your ears" "you make this face when you're tired" "you order green tea on a good day black on a bad day" "you always make that face before you try something" "the tips of your ears turn red when you're angry" "i knew you'd say something" "you must be exhausted to miss the class" "your favorite pie is pumpkin, right?" "i know your phone number, don't worry" "you miss me, i can tell" "you fiddle with your pens when you're bored" "you don't like converse unless they're high tops" "your favorite cereal is cinnamon toast crunch and you first ate it when you were 8"
being known is being loved.
this is my favorite frame from this dude’s entire animation
his forlorn, gentle eyes
A young female welder adjusts her goggles, Groton, Connecticut, 1943. Photograph by Bernard Hoffman.
hey so, i really dig this particular style of animation but I don’t know what it’s called:
thicker lineart but with obvious weight, interesting usage of curves and angles
characters are fairly colorful but it’s more muted and retro-style, it blends with the background. sometimes colors are even more stylized for effect depending on the scenes, overall aesthetically pleasing
its generally pretty cartoony
character designs are diverse but they all retain some sort of charm, im not sure how to describe it but theyre all pretty funky and flowy and i really like that
usually big, oval-shaped, expressive as FUCK eyes
animation itself is pretty smooth and stretchy, usually traditionally animated. lots of facial expressions, very fun to look at
i know for a fact that not every early 2000s cartoon had this style but i really like it, idk if theres a specific name for it.
The style is based off of the UPA style revival kicked off in the 90s. UPA was popular with early television animation in the 50s because the more simplistic style was cheaper to produce as well as aesthetically pleasing, cartoons like Ren & Stimpy brought it back from the dead as retro cool.
This is my personal favorite style

Yemen is facing the worlds largest hunger crisis and the world is too quiet.
And it’s the children that pay the highest price. An estimated 85,000 children have lost their lives to extreme starvation alone. Every 10 minutes, a child under 5 dies of preventable causes in Yemen. When choosing what charities or goals you want to support during the last few days of Ramadan, I urge you to keep the children of Yemen in mind. And if you’re not celebrating Ramadan, or are not religious.. you’re still human.
These are a few of charities that I know of that you can donate to:
https://www.savethechildren.org.uk/how-you-can-help/emergencies/yemen-crisis?
https://www.muslimglobalrelief.org/yemen-appeal (100% donation policy)
https://oxfamapps.org.uk/yemen
https://www.dec.org.uk/appeal/yemen-crisis-appeal
http://sharethemeal.org
Remember, it’s the smallest donations that build up or even just rebloging/sharing would help. May Allah smile upon us all, and relieve the children of this world of their heartache.
The entire population of Yemen is expected to die by the end of this year.
If Yemen was 100 people:
80 need aid to survive
60 have nothing to eat
58 have no access to clean water
52 have no access to health care, however since Covid-19 their healthcare system has effectively collapsed
But Yemen is not 100 people
It’s 30.5 million humans
Guys this is a whole country that’s about to be EXTICT. Let’s not fail them

Becoming Anti-Racist by Dr. Andrew M. Ibrahim
Fear Zone:
I deny racism is a problem.
I avoid hard questions.
I strive to be comfortable.
I talk to others who look and think like me.
Learning Zone:
I recognize racism is a present and current problem
I seek out questions that make me uncomfortable.
I understand my own privilege in ignoring racism.
I educate myself about race and structural racism.
I am vulnerable about my own biases and knowledge gap.
I listen to others who think and look differently than me.
Growth Zone:
I identify how I may unknowingly benefit from racism.
I promote and advocate for policies and leaders that are Anti-Racist.
I sit with my discomfort.
I speak out when I see racism in action.
I educate my peers how racism harms our professions.
I don’t let my mistakes deter me from being better.
I yield positions of power to those otherwise marginalized.
I surround myself with others who think and look differently than me.
End of image description.
elijah mcclain was an unarmed 23 year old black man who was murdered by aurora police officers in august 2019. his last words were "im an introvert. im just different, that’s all. im so sorry. i don’t have a gun. i don’t do that stuff. i dont do any fighting. why are you attacking me? i dont even kill flies. i dont eat meat...all i was trying to do was become better. i'll do it...you all are phenomenal. you are beautiful. and i love you. try to forgive me. im sorry." and these words should be ringing in our ears forever. please go to this link to see ways you can help get justice for his case, we cant forget him
anyway juneteenth should be celebrated and recognized more than the fourth of july bc it embarks the REAL FREEDOM of millions of enslaved africans and not a bunch of old white men writing on a stale piece of paper about how only rich white men deserve rights and that’s that
if it doesn’t have a happy ending then what’s the point. i’m already depressed i don’t need ur help
would like to clarify that a happy ending doesn’t mean that no one dies and no one goes through hardships. a happy ending means the characters who survive the story don’t go through everything for nothing. they made it and there’s some good waiting for them at the end. there’s still hope
