“They weren’t so much best friends as they were extensions of each other. The thing was, they could function without the other. They just didn’t want to.”
— a.g. (via swierwrites)
“Brutal perhaps, but at the same time delicate, very delicate.”
— D. H. Lawrence, from The Complete Works; “The Rainbow,” wr. c. 1919
“Sometimes not speaking says more than all the words in the world.”
— Colleen Hoover, Ugly Love (via books-n-quotes)
“I’m going to do what I want to do. I’m going to be who I really am. And I’m going to figure out what that is.”
— Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower (via books-n-quotes)
master assassin, amateur lockpicker
Varric: I never took you for the dishonest type, Sunshine.
Ceral: I try not to be. Least when it can be helped.
Varric: Funny, you didn't seem all that concerned about it last night at the Rest. "The Circle discouraged card playing."
Ceral: Well, that wasn't a lie. Greagoir did tend to look down on the idea of the mages gambling.
Varric: Uh huh. I'm guessing the Knight-Commander's frowning wasn't enough to keep you from picking up a few things while you were there.
Ceral: I wasn't-
Varric: If you try to sell me on that beginner's luck shit one more time a certain sister of yours'll be hearing how you decided to spend your evening. I taught Daisy how to play, remember? I can tell a lucky break from a good old fashioned fleecing, and so will the next pair you work over if you're not careful. The last two were an exceptional brand of idiots, otherwise they would've noticed too.
Ceral: (sighs) You don't have to worry over it, Varric. I don't have any plans to make a habit of this, I promise.
Varric: And I should believe this because?
Ceral: Because those two are the only ones I've overheard comparing my sister and Thedra to wild animals. And other less... civil things.
Varric: Really now? Huh. ... I wonder if they know five card stud.
“In truth, for the chance to be by your side I would storm the Dark City itself. Never doubt it.”
So what is it you fancy, exactly?
*points at romance* what the HECKÂ is that
Falling into your arms at the end of a long day is like feeling the first warm rays of the sun at the end of a long winter.
“Mom says you should never ask for advice you aren’t willing to take. I wasn’t sure I agreed. Having an unbiased pair of eyes point out a sensible solution was helpful. But the sensible thing and the right thing weren’t always the same choice, and no one but you could truly understand the difference.”
— Jenn Bennett, The Anatomical Shape of a Heart (via books-n-quotes)
Look at the stars, they shine for you my love
“I fancy many things. I fancy things that are beautiful and things that are strong. I fancy things that are dangerous and exciting. Would you be offended if I said I fancied you?”
GERTIE BROWN & SAINT SUTTLE “Something Good-Negro Kiss,” the newly discovered William Selig silent film from 1898 is believed to be the earliest cinematic depiction of African-American affection. Thanks to scholars at the University of Chicago and the University of Southern California, the footage is prompting a rethinking of early film history. The performance by cakewalk partners Saint Suttle and Gertie Brown is a reinterpretation of Thomas Edison’s “The Kiss,” featuring May Irwin and John Rice. The film was announced December 12, 2018 as a new addition to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry—one of 25 selected for their enduring importance to American culture. The 29-second clip is free of stereotypes and racist caricatures, a stark contrast from the majority of black performances at the turn of the century.
“The first time I heard my name in your mouth, the ground felt like a language I haven’t spoken in years.
I forgot everything I knew about gravity.”
— Rudy Francisco, Gravity (via books-n-quotes)
