Apparently this one fuckin works, and who am I to argue with the collective agreement of tumblr. Will report back if good things happen.
WHY YOU SHOULD WRITE HORRIBLY:
1. Youâll never write anything if you donât

One of my old creative non-fiction professors used to always tell us âEveryoneâs life is boring. A good enough writer, however, can make anything sound interesting.â
One of my fiction professors used to tell us âthereâs a reason your story started today. Why is that? Why today?â
One of my poetry professors once asked me, âRoman do you want this extra bag of pretzels? Iâm allergic to gluten.â
She also told me that silence is just as much of a part of poetry as words are but I mostly remember the free pretzels. They were really good pretzels.
What selfshipping is like
Posts that read wildly differently based on self image
the best fanfic is the one the author had fun writing actually.
the second best is the one the author used to work through some issues.
Encouragment for writers that I know seems discouraging at first but I promise itâs motivational-
⢠Those emotional scenes youâve planned will never be as good on page as they are in your head. To YOU. Your audience, however, is eating it up. Just because you canât articulate the emotion of a scene to your satisfaction doesnât mean itâs not impacting the reader.Â
⢠Sometimes a sentence, a paragraph, or even a whole scene will not be salvagable. Either it wasnât necessary to the story to begin with, or you can put it to the side and re-write it later, but for now itâs gotta go. It doesnât make you a bad writer to have to trim, it makes you a good writer to know to trim.
⢠There are several stories just like yours. And thatâs okay, thereâs no story in existence of completely original concepts. What makes your story âoriginalâ is that itâs yours. No one else can write your story the way you can.
⢠You have writing weaknesses. Everyone does. But donât accept your writing weaknesses as unchanging facts about yourself. Donât be content with being crap at description, dialogue, world building, etc. Writers that are comfortable being crap at things wonât improve, and thatâs not you. Itâs going to burn, but work that muscle. I promise youâll like the outcome.
For any writers that need encouragement
truly some people have no genre savviness whatsoever. A girl came back from the dead the other day and fresh out of the grave she laughed and laughed and lay down on the grass nearby to watch the sky, dirt still under her nails. I asked her if sheâs sad about anything and she asked me why she should be. I asked her if sheâs perhaps worried sheâs a shadow of who she used to be and she said that if she is a shadow she is a joyous one, and anyway whoever she was she is her, now, and thatâs enough. I inquired about revenge, about unfinished business, about what had filled her with the incessant need to claw her way out from beneath but she just said sheâs here to live. I told her about ghosts, about zombies, tried to explain to her how her options lie between horror and tragedy but she just said if those are the stories meant for her then sheâll make another one. I said âisnât it terribly lonely how in your triumph over death nobody was here to greet you?â and she just looked at me funny and said âwhat do you mean? The whole world was here, waitingâ. Some people, I tell you.
NO!!!! Characters accepting their sexuality will kill the patient.... She needs deep repression narratives to live
Characters should never be okay with who they are
the author's barely disguised longing for a kinder world
