We don't celebrate thanksgiving but we do have a Harvest Celebration the same weekend each year and this year we decided the activity would be trimming the garden down for autumn, part one. My daughter and I tackled the front garden today; trim it all down, cover in burlap and then make witchy bundles of our plants as my girl calls them. We've not tackled trimming the hops yet though, think that will be next weekend.

Need y’all to know that in the 1970’s a letter to the editor was published in Daily Telegraph where the author offhandedly used the phrase “Tolkien-like gloom” to describe an area with barren trees and JRRT himself wrote back an incensed rebuttal at the use of his name in a context that suggested anything negative about trees.

Yellowknife wildfire: traffic clogs road out of town as residents race to evacuate

More than 20,000 residents given until noon on Friday to leave home in face of advancing wildfire that could arrive by weekend

“Water bombers flew throughout the night and authorities warned that the fire could reach the city by the weekend. Evacuation flights are also due to begin on Thursday afternoon, and will continue until the entire population has safely left the city, said the Yellowknife mayor, Rebecca Alty. She warned residents to bring water and food with them to the city’s airport as they could face long waits to get on a flight. The out-of-control wildfire – which was least measured at 163,000 hectares wide (402,000 acres) – is currently 16km from Yellowknife.”

You woke at 04:38hrs Mountain Time and so far: WONDERFUL! Great job remembering to say "Rabbit, Rabbit" [and make a wish] before midnight last night, then saying "Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit" when you woke up, even before you mumbled the customary "ok Jack (the littlest fur-kid that shares our bed 🐕😂), give me a moment, I'll let you out"

p.p.s. fun fact about yourself Reba: you didn't LOVE birthday celebrations (you were mostly 'that's nice, no biggy') until 00:17hrs Mountain Time 28 December 19** when you met your First born. From then on, every Birthday, for everyone in your circle, was a glorious celebration-worthy event.

Daily Tarot continued

I pulled out The Hermit IX card from each of my four decks to see what I can see🙂 The Cathar deck has a Grail Knight and I do love their journey metaphor of The Parfait in may ways. Still has heavy Judéo-Christianismes overtones, which though I have departed that belief structure, resonates deeply for me given my early learning of how the world worked. I find it easy to wrap my mind around the concepts basically.

Interestingly, when I looked at the basic RWC-S card, my brain immediately assumed he was standing on the mountains and then I corrected myself saying “oh that could be coming to you because of growing up here in the Rockies and my deep connection to the mountains, its likely snow”. Of course the second assumption of snow once again shows my unconscious bias as a person living in places on Turtle Island that get snow regularly. Anyway, the little tarot book that goes with the RWC-S deck did say it was mountains.

I’ve also been thinking overall why I love Stephanie Pui-Mun Law's Shadowscapes deck so deeply; besides the existential connection I mean😉.  The Artist doesn’t impose gender or sex on the creatures as often as most decks; at least from my vantage point that's how it feel; that means I can “see myself” in every card - and the card may reflect back some masculine or feminine insights but they are Archetypal. That way the insight applies at the soul level without squishing me into, or excluding me from, a gender box. Also, just as with my locational bias in the RWC-S deck, once again the “Canadian Geese” beneath the Hermit in this deck jumped out at me.

The Jungian deck the Hermit strikes me as affluent which makes me feel uncomfortable. The lightening also caught my attention and 'flashes of insight' is the thought that came to me.

Reading a new book on my Fool’s journey; Tarot and the Archetypal Journey, The Jungian Path from Darkness to Light by Sallie Nichols (1980). It’s the first negative temperature reading of the Autumn for us (-3 Celcius) but I was determined to welcome the Sun with a reading anyway. 🌞🍁

Alors, un atout or trump card again; which to me reinforces, or perhaps acknowledges, that even though I turned 50 a few years ago, only now at this Birthday season of mine, am I well into transitioning on my road to elder and crone/ hag. I chose to reclaim the latter two terms as positives for context. I’m going to let the card sit with me today before I mindfully tune in to what the message for today is. That said, I dare say The Hermit appears to be speaking in a voice strong and clear even before I reflect. 😋🧙🏽‍♀️🐦‍⬛🪄

Todays one card omen reading was the Queen of Wands! As I ease into my Birthday on the 1st, and the migraines and vertigo finally begin to let go their tenacious grasp on me this past few weeks, I am feeling incredibly hopeful. I love that she has the large bird (falcon maybe?) on her head. All birds really uplifted me but the dominant one resonated somehow.
