All of this is so fucking true, but can we also talk about how she dresses on versus off the clock?

On the clock, she's all business. Shirt, coat, tie, skirt, all pressed and clean. Her tie is down her coat, and her coat is fully buttoned and tucked into her skirt (which has pockets sown into either side, another bit of practicality). She's playing the part of the corporate manager.

But what does she wear the second she's alone and off the clock?

Hoodie and branded baseball cap. Nothing pretty or fancy or elegant (minus the bows). Just regular-ass comfy clothes. J doesn't wear her uniform because she likes it. She wears it because it's her uniform.

This fandom has gone so long with J getting nothing in the way of characterization, and now that we got it I am living for it.

I found this comic by @sectoniaapologist and I really wanted to dub it! I love seeing interpretations of Fecto Elfilis being redeemed ^^

I've never come across a female Fecto before, so hopefully my own voice will do! It was a neat departure from the norm since I've always seen Fecto (Forgo and Elfilis) as a masculine character. Plus I barely ever get to voice any evil characters!! XD

I had this idea of J blowing up at V in like a mid way through full company setting floating around my head for a bit now

Where like J is being more open about regretting her actions and actively wanting to improve and talking with the other 3 in a healthier manor, but then V says just the wrong thing and it rubs J the wrong way who then flips the conversation towards V and how she also has some things to be addressed

[imagine a super healthy emotional conversation here]

V: “I’m still a little shocked that this is the same J I was stuck with in that pod almost a completely different person”

J: “ that is rich coming from you, you went full psycho after earth and then it just apparently switched off”

V: “ yeah uhh it was my solution to the problem we were in”

J: “what do you mean by that? Was it all just an act ?”

V: “yeah kinda I guess? i thought it would be easier to protect N from that mind virus thing that got him if i kept my distance and my best chance of getting through that nightmare sane”

J: “ you guess?! YOU GUESS?! Did u put any thought into how that would affect me? You didn’t even tell me?”

V: “wh—-“

J: “it HURT V, it hurt me allot, with N’s memory issues and what i thought was Cyn playing with your mind, i found myself in a pod with 2 strangers, i didn’t feel safe i felt abandoned, i know we weren’t massive friends at the manor but i thought we had at least a little bit of something”

V: “you better not be trying to shift some blame onto me”

J: “I’m not I’m just trying to convey the full weight of how that hit me”

Also, do you have any tips on poses and anatomy? Someone else mentioned it already, but your poses are so fluid and expressive!

posted this a good while back on twitter but heres a sketchy little diagram of what I focus on with poses

most of these are important in making appealing posing in animation. you can absolutley convey a characters personality, background, what theyre thinking through posing, something I try to strive for everytime I start a pose! I think keeping that in the back of your mind as you make a pose can make the world a difference in how expressive it comes out.

Im quite practiced in the fundamentals of art so this can occupy more of my brain as I draw, which brings me to the second point part:

from an anatomy standpoint your best bet is learning muscle and bone structure and applying that to gestured life drawing. I personally believe thats the most effective way to learn. yes even with cartoon characters with rubber hose limbs, knowing the rules to know how to break them is very important.

I personally love anatomy, but I understand this can get so boring, try not to burn yourself out with it, you should always have some play with your studying. if anything at least do gesture drawings, it may seem like a lot of work but its very helpful in the long run.

Do you have any resources/words of advice for understanding the line of action?

I've heard it's useful and important but it's pain.

yeah some! I've gotten to the point that line of action is an always an underlying thought whilst drawing, so I dont always draw it in- but its good to keep keep note of as you make a pose.

Line of action communicates the force of the pose, the flow that leads the body, or even rythym of it if you wanted to think of it another way.

you'll often times see it lead through the spine and legs (which has the longest natural line), extended or redirected sometimes by the arms- but that isnt necessarily always the case. just know its purpose is to indicate the flow of the figure- to capture its dynamism.

In animation its quite important to pay attention to if you want to create appeal and energy in key drawings. having the line of action reverse/respond to the movement of the previous one, is very striking in creating a sense of motion. examples like the below pictures from this line of action article X

and thats just for jumping! you see it in many daily actions as well if you can pay attention, even the way we naturally stand can have a appealing line of action.

I suggest looking up controposto (counterpose), with an S curve, its a very effective way to make a simple standing pose more appealing. the chest and hips in opposing directions adds a tension and energy making it seem like it can move at anytime. The most important aspect of it, is it creates the illusion of weight!

for standing poses you can even purposfully manipulate what you know about line of action and posing- to make a character look very stiff, for acting purposes!

All in all the best way to learn line of action is in my opinion, is through experience in life drawing. its a tool to use to make appealing poses, and the more you practice with it the more it'll sit in the backburner of your mind.

quick 30-60 second sketches- just to get the line of action, atleast with indications of hip/shoulder can give yourself a better sense of it.

recently I quit my job of 3 years due to ongoing workplace abuse I couldnt take any more of and I am now without a stable income for the time being+will be moving countries in the next couple of months. I hate having to do this but i need some help affording my medications/groceries/gas these next few months.

Unfortunately taking public commissions is something i’ve realized I have a really hard time doing and I cannot take any more at this current time, and would rather wait until i’m in a better headspace to discuss them.
