GASP--- and she's gone, just like that!
Thank you so much River!! I appreciate you!! Aaaa ♡♡♡
Lupita comes into the canon during the early seasons of Gotham :>! They are a customer at the restaurant Oswald Cobblepot works in while he is trying to get back on his feet and is working as a table cleaner. The first real scene I see them introduced goes like this--
Oswald limped over to the booth only to see the patron was still sitting there, a small smile on her face but he didn't notice it, too busy staring at the way she had gathered up all her plates and cutlery onto a neat, sturdy pile- even the napkin, although dirty, was neatly folded and set on top, ready to be thrown into the washer machine.
"You didn't have to do that." Oswald blurted before flicking his attention up to meet a pair of dark, warm brown eyes crinkling just a little at him. If he was still wearing his tailored suits, that would be one thing. If he still had that modicum of power before Mooney ripped it out of his hands-- but he was a nobody now, as much as it burned him to admit. So why--
"I know," the stranger answered gently, fiddling with her hands. "But I wanted to make it easier for you."
Oswald clenched his jaw. Ah. So this had been about his leg. His damned--
Apparently seeing the annoyance on his face, the stranger added in a rush, "I meant, busting tables is hard work is all! And... well," she smiled again. "My Mama- she's back in Texas- she raised me to do this since I was little. I didn't mean to offend you, Sir."
At the mention of her mother, Oswald felt his temper cool like a freshly unlit candle. Her usage of a more formal title didn't hurt either. He gave her a cursory glance- new blood, fresh faced. Probably in her twenties or something, now living in the big city to chase better job opportunities than whatever backwater town she grew up in could offer her. Alone too, if her lack of a ring and the mention of her mother being back in her home state was anything to go by. Too nice for her own good. She'd need to grow teeth to go with that smile of hers to survive Gotham.
A small smile tugged at the corner of his thin lips. "Ah," he said, "I see. Well, thank you. Did you enjoy your meal?"
The stranger nodded. "I did! I'll have to come back sometime." She paused and shot him a hopeful, shy smile. "When I do, maybe I can ask for your recommendation?"
Oswald preened at that. "I'd be happy to oblige, miss."
She stood, smiling, and set a twenty dollar bill on the table just in front of him and out of sight from anyone else. So not too green. Good. That was promising. He took it, surprised, and smiled again, this time more genuinely.
"Thank you," he said warmly. "I appreciate your generosity. It won't be forgotten."
She shouldered her tote bag. "My pleasure!" She drawled and what amazed him was that he could see she meant it without ulterior intentions. "Well, see you next time!"
She took a step before he asked, "Sorry, I didn't catch your name." He put a hand to his heart and gave a slight bow, his other hand supporting him with his palm on the table. "I'm Oswald."
She mimicked his gesture, eyes twinkling. "Lupita."
"See you next time, Miss Lupita." Oswald said, already thinking of what he might recommend. And then she was gone, but she'd be back soon enough.
3. General feelings from the others
Ahahaha... oh boy. Mainly, folks see Lupita as too nice to be living in Gotham. They're too friendly, too polite, too kind, too sincere. This both endears them to many people and rubs many people the wrong way!
Oswald sees them as someone to protect, as does Ed, while Barbara sees Lupita as annoying and hiding a deeper, darker side that needs to come out.
Gordon and Harvey both like Lupita, but while Gordon basically leaves Lupita to their own devices and trusts them to look after themself, Harvey is always lovingly harping on them to start acting meaner for their own safety.
Selina thinks Lupita is too nice for their own good too but she truly loves and appreciates their kindness toward her and is fiercely protective of them.
Falcone sees Lupita as a daughter. He likes that Lupita is content to feed his chickens with him, likes that they are sweet and generous, that they refuse to let Gotham rot away their kindness even if he wants them to be more interested in taking the power he's offering them.
Bruce loves Lupita for being another adult person he can trust besides Alfred and he sees her kindness and warmth as a beacon of humanity to turn to when the city feels too dark and cold.
As for Alfred... Lupita is his wife your honour. His safe space to fall into, his endless source of comfort and humour and warmth. Lupita keeps him feeling young and playful when Bruce won't let himself be a kid.
Oswald, Ed, Selina are Lupita's closest friends outside of the people they consider family such as Bruce and of course, their partner Alfred!
Oh! It depends! Ultimately though...
for casual day wear in late spring/summer--- they're fond of high rise wide cut jeans ('mom' jeans), high rise skirts and shorts, high rise trousers, tucked in or shirts with the tails tied into a knot, sun hats and cowboy hats, overalls, Hawaiian shirts and verticle striped shirts, sleeveless and long sleeves.
For casual day wear in autumn/winter--- thermal leggings with cute designs, wool skirts, high rise trousers, scarves, wool coats, turtlenecks and cardigans, lots of layering.
12. Fandom viewing Lupita
I believe that many would be expecting Lupita to secretly be a villain all along like we see how the Fandom reacted to Bob from Stranger Things--- this IS Gotham where good things can't happen without a price ^^, but I want Lupita to be a solid, good (stubbornly so) character to be in Bruce's life. Want him to have her to look at and be reminded of warmth and sunshine.
Having said that, I believe many would truly appreciate Lupita's kindness, their humour, their ability to reach Bruce on a deep emotional level, how they make the viewer see Oswald and Ed still have some humanity despite the atrocities they have committed, and how they fluster Alfred. Overall they would be put in the Fandom "cinnamonroll that could kill you if pushed too far and needs to protect someone" sort of category like Molly Weasley.
16. Free fact you want to share
Lupita has a pet raccoon! They're a game warden and ended up rescuing it as a young kit when separated from its mother. It's house trained and loves playing with toys- anyone who comes over for the first time has to bring a new toy for it as an entry requirement (and a way for the raccoon to warm up to the stranger).
Thank you again SO SO much for this ask ♡!!!!!!
