The Chupacabra (Spanish for “Goat sucker”) had it’s 1st recorded sighting in 1955 in Puerto Rico. Since then it has spread throughout the United States, Mexico, Chile and Colombia most notably. But sightings have occurred all over Latin America and the Caribbeans, and some even claim sightings in the Philippines and Russia.
Most believe the Chupacabra to be small, feet similar to that a kangaroo, fangs, forked tongue and it is either green, scaly and reptile-like or smooth and dog-like. It’s eyes glow and the scream it produces may cause nausea to those who hear it.
In the original report, they found 8 dead goats, each with 3 strange puncture wounds on their chests and completely drained of blood. Later on, in the town of Canovanas, Puerto Rico an eyewitness gave a description of the Chupacabra when more than 150 farm animals and pets had mysteriously died. And many speculate that the killings were due by a Satanic cult, but the truth was never revealed.
Benjamin Radford, an investigator, believes the reported appearance of the Chupacabra in Canovanas cannot be trusted because the only eyewitness believed the events of the movie Species were real and happening in Puerto Rico.
Radford also catergozies the reported Chupacabra sightings into two groups: Latin American sightings (which have the animals drained of blood) and United States sightings (which do not have the animals drained of blood).
Nearly all of the sightings in the U.S have been proven to be wolves and coyotes with mange, a skin disease caused by parasites in dogs. And the puncture wounds are caused by their fangs and often times inexperienced canines will kill their prey but won’t eat it, leaving the carcass behind.
The same cannot be said for most Latin American sightings in which it may be coyotes with mange, but it does not explain the apparent drainage of blood. None are too sure on this, whether from lack of investigation or whatever the case may be.
Whether or not it exists remains a mystery. Despite many claiming it to be coyotes with mange, a failed top secret U.S military experiment, a demon or an alien, no one is certain.
The only advice I can offer is to keep your pets close at night and to keep your goats even closer.
