When you get more objective about the way nature is & away from weird anthropomorphic carnivore slander it is a little funny when the baby sea turtles hatch and every other animal in like a ten mile radius goes "oh fuck yum one million mini sliders"
[ID: a screenshot of the original post's tags that read, "#real turtleheads know this is a play on sliders (turtle emoji) which are a type of terrestrial turtle. but it's also tiny hamburgers #which seems apt. #this has been another episode of Joke Explainer" /end ID]
Keeping these actually. Necessary footnote for this post
Watching a jaguar casually walk up to an adult sea turtle headed back to the water after laying her eggs and eat it like why am I in my sea turtle violence era and why are they like this. Adult sea turtles aren't especially easy to eat in the water they'll swim around with shark bites taken out of them like they're just chillin. And then on land they just kinda
Jaguar watching a sea turtle on the beach: oh fuck yum 100 pound slider
Also today I learned that since the jaguar scares off other smaller predators it's actually good for the sea turtle population if there are jaguars there. Cause less babies get eaten by Everything Else. I'm gonna be honest I didn't even consider that a jaguar could be on the beach
Every other animal in like a ten mile radius: I'm gonna be honest I didn't even consider that a jaguar could be on the beach
A fun fact about me is that I was actually born without an innate sense of malice, but the family pediatrician fortunately caught it early and was able to graft on a donor provided by a recently deceased death row inmate
Crucially the guy didn't do it. They like super exonerated him afterwards. That was the only reason it worked, though. The thirst for revenge is what allowed the sense of malice to cohere long enough for it to be stuffed into a cooler and brought to the pediatrics ward

Here they are! 15 Tactical Breach Wizards themed tarot cards out of 22, not bad! Anyways there's a LOT of text about the thought process of choosing each character below the cut, so, enjoy! And Happy Holidays, everybody!
what is real time with pause?
imagine a real time squad tactics game but the magical inclusion of the words 'with pause' make the developers feel exempted from any obligation towards economy, legibility, or elegance in their design. alternatively imagine a turn based tactics game where you have to manually start and end your turns every 0.5 seconds and they mostly consist of course correcting one of your guys from walking into another guy's aoe attack. now imagine something combining the worst parts of both of those that also demands that every moment of exploration be celebrated with an unskippable cutscene of your party killing 1-3 wild pigs
imagine if when id software were making DOOM they worried gamers wouldnt like it because it wasnt enough like secret of monkey island so they made it an adventure game where the only possible combination of item and action was 'SHOOT ENEMY with BULLET' and they called it 'adventure with gun' and this was the standard for shooters for the next ten years

introducing a new character, Sun-Tzu But If He Sucked
we have to hit them harder and they'll surrender no half measures time to take the gloves off
if you kill their leaders they'll just surrender trust me bro it happens in Age of Empires
the more you spread your logistics around contractors that have a monopoly on your weapons production the more you produce bro
you know what wins wars? having the most badass manly soldiers they should all be like total badasses with cool guns
you just have to strike bro no half measures gloves off don't care about what comes after you just have to declare war just declare war what are you a pussy
it's honestly pretty incredible how much influence on Cybperunk one black gun otaku weeaboo ended up having, to such a degree that much of his contribution to genre conventions is now so normal as to be invisible as contributions and not just natural to the genre. Say "thank you Mike Pondsmith, mechs and katana are cool"
I think "wholesomeness" vs "edginess" as an aesthetic distinction has important ethical content sometimes, albeit in different ways which might run to the favor of one or the other "side" in different contexts. One dimension of this is that what someone can tolerate in art often tells you something about what they think is necessary for an outcome to count as "happy" in real life, or for a person to be in their good graces in real life, and there are versions of "wholesomeness" as an aesthetic that convey a really oppressive narrowness in these respects.
And conversely obviously there is a type of edginess that is genuinely ethically cruel that can be offputting as well, where the suffering of some clearly marked-off category of real person is considered inherently funny or good in a way that other people's suffering is not.
In both cases it's very much an "I know it when I see it" thing and different people have radically different tolerances that aren't necessarily themselves strong ethical signals. But it's not a totally empty aesthetic debate.
I've always been really confused about the world culture of Fallout, especially before the collapse.
Like it's my understanding that the timeline diverges from our own after WW2, with the United States entering a golden atomic age driven by relentless xenophobic and expansionist conquest, plunging the world into a fascistic death spiral that lead to the resource wars and nuclear armageddon. And to deliver that bleak premise with a satirical edge, it's canonical that American culture is, at least by the 2070s when the world happens, stuck in a sort of neo 50s obsession where the only music and art that's popular enough to survive the nukes is all stuff that originated more than a century beforehand.
Like I get that the criticism being made is that a culture obsessed with its own past is indicative of a bleak present crushed by imperialism and nationalism, but can you really expect me to believe that Fallout's American empire was so bad that culture and art and aesthetics were just. Frozen in time for more than 100 years? Addicted to their own past? That the American people were so embroiled in reactionary ideologies that they were incapable of moving forward and creating anything new?
Anyway did you hear they're rebooting Malcolm in the Middle this year? And the Mummy. And the Devil Wears Prada. And Masters of the Universe. And Meet the Parents. And a 5th toy story movie. And a moana remake.
Could mean nothing.
It's my birthday! 🎂 All I want is for YOU to read my webcomic, Sever & Pierce (And tell me what you think? 👉👈)
If you've ever watched or read something and thought "dang, that was good, but I wish that monster or robot had been the main character" then this is the story for you!
severandpierce.com
I think it's quite good!
I really love the art. You get lot of detail and character into each panel, and the pacing and layout of the wider pages are also excellent.
I also like these characters a lot already, and I'm eager to see where all the plot hooks that are being introduced are headed.
the prime suspects in this case are gandalf the gray and gandalf the white and monty python and the holy grail's black knight and benito mussolini and the blue meanie and cowboy curtis and jambi the genie robocop the terminator captain kirk darth vader lo pan superman every single power ranger bill s preston and theodore logan spock the rock doc ock and hulk hogan
Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!
It’s very clear that you all have strong feelings about Tumblr and about this change. We hear you. The passion people have for how Tumblr works is one of the things that makes this place special.
As this rolls out over the next few days and you explore it, we’ll keep reading your replies and reblogs, so please keep sharing your questions, concerns, and ideas.
Your creativity has always been the heart of Tumblr, whether you’re the original poster or adding something brilliant in the reblogs, and nothing about this change is meant to limit that.
If you’d like to talk directly beyond the comments, leave a reply and we’ll follow up with as many of you as we can. We want to work with you to make Tumblr better.

Not only will this ruin a core element of Tumblr, it will make it very difficult to tell where and when a post is getting traction. People are on this website because it isn't Twitter. Making it more like Twitter will turn people away.
The last thing this website needs is a culture of catty twitter-style quote-retweets. This will actively encourage more toxic users to interact with your posts because their traffic will be more difficult to track.
this actively sabotages the core benefit of tumblr over other platforms, the ability to have nuanced longform conversations. this change will make the website drastically worse
