YALL I HAVE IT I HAVE A THEORY THATS ACTUALLY PLAUSIBLE REGARDING DELTARUNE

theyre gonna try to silence me. the post is gonna get buried. i dont even know if this theory is unique, but its a showerthought so it came to me organically, but i present my theory:

kris has never been in control. at least, not fully.

lets start by establishing a timeline, starting with when kris is born and ending with when deltarune starts. when we enter the game, we see the scene of kris's room. namely: the existance of the birdcage. so the question presents: why would kris need the cage if this is the first time weve "possessed" kris?

the answer, most likely, is that kris has done the song and dance before. theyve needed to remove their soul before and keep it trapped. theyre used to needing to feel free from their soul.

and why is that?

this is where we need to establish that there are three forms of "control" that kris can be under: their own control, our control, and the control of... someone else.

lets look at kris's childhood. of course, we dont have control over kris here, so we'll ignore that for now. however, there are moments that kris seems to not react to despite being negative, such as kris pulling pranks on noelle as a kid. we also know there are moments that we know of that kris seems to be displeased by, even if they seem relatively positive, such as whatever moment the picture of noelle and kris represented in chapter 5.

so why is kris so opposed to the soul controlling them even if they do things that they should enjoy? well even outside of the utter loss of freedom (big theme there obvi), i think kris has done things they really didnt want to do while being controlled, possibly including whatever happened to dess.

and so, i think whoever is orchestrating this whole operation, who we'll just assume is gaster for now, offered them a deal: fulfill my plans, and ill free you of your soul (or, at least, the control it has over them).

thats why kris is helping with the dark fountains. they NEED to be free, even if it ruins their relationships or their reputation. that's why spamton hit them so hard. they both want freedom, but must be puppetted to receive it. thats why, when you choose that kris is "not ok" with what happened in the spamton fight, they scream "NO." not because they were scared (though that could be part of it), but because they realized how similar their situations are.

but again, we go back to the cage, and the question of "who was controlling kris?"

i mean... its gaster right? it has to be gaster!

gaster purposely sabotaged kris's perception of their soul so that he could manipulate them into doing what he wanted and keep us from interfering.

it would also explain why, despite being an "antagonist," kris isnt evil. they are, quite obviously, opposed to what's happening in the weird route, trying to grasp any control to get out of it and not wanting to "proceed." its also why they look away when we kill susie and ralsei in the SWORD route. they do genuinely care for susie and ralsei, and the more our control over them slips, i think we'll see that.

so there you have it! going back to the timeline, we have: kris (and their soul) are born; kris (at some point) gets controlled by gaster, gaster forces kris to watch themselves have fun and do bad things (possibly including dess's dissappearance), gaster makes a deal with kris to carry out his plans and make dark fountains in exchange for their freedom, and, finally, we gain control over kris, who is already tainted against us. though, given the weird route, maybe gaster was just preparing them for what was to come...

but hey, that's just a theory! A GAM- *shot by matpat's lawyers before i can finish the sentence*

A lot of people hate to hear this, but they in particular really need to understand it.

If you were raised in the US, and you weren't specifically raised as a specific religion other than Christianity, then you are culturally Christian. Yes, even if you were raised atheist. Yes, I know you hate that idea. People who were raised in specific other religions in the US are usually still influenced by it, just not as thoroughly.

But specific Protestant values and attitudes have worked their way so far into US culture that we do not ever think about. (They've gotten into US Catholicism, too, Catholics elsewhere are frequently WTF at US Catholics, or so I'm told.) The "Protestant work ethic" is one of them, that "manager in your head" you should kill. Purity as a principle. The nobility of suffering (very Calvinist specifically). The prosperity culture (again, very Calvinist). A whole list. I'm honestly not good enough at Christian history to list it all. After all, I wasn't raised Christian myself. But I can see and acknowledge that I was raised in a culture with a Christian hegemony. If I pay attention, I can see where it's affected how I think. And when I do pay attention and look at it, I can change it. I can root out those patterns in my head. It's a lot of work, but it's well worth doing.

Denying that you are culturally Christian on the basis of your absence of Christian upbringing, or absence of Christianity now, just shows that you don't understand what cultural Christianity is. It is the culture that you have marinated in all your life, if you grew up in the US. The same way you've marinated in racism, classism, sexism, right on down the line (and generally they are all one thing). All of that affects you, and the only way to fix it is to acknowledge it and work on it.

This isn't a "hot take". It's just a fucking fact.

The English language is culturally Christian. For example, it has a lot of Christian ideas about our bodies being separate from our minds and souls (mind/body dualism) baked into it.

Something as ubiquitous as using a possessive pronoun about my body makes it seem conceptually distinct from myself, which is, more often than not, conceived as something intangible that can be separated from the body (and survive in some form, according to Christian doctrine).

Even talking about embodiment, the way that we exist in the world as physical beings, is historically connected to the idea of a soul existing within a body. A soul is 'embodied' by being placed in a body. But what I want to convey is that my mind and body are one, and that both are perceived through my senses (inner dialogue is typically heard or perhaps seen). Perhaps, as philosophical physicalists are so fond of claiming, my mind is an emergent property that certain types of bodies (humans) developed through evolution.

However, because the English language developed alongside culturally Christian ideas about what it means to be a person, it is so hard to convey this without either adopting language which seems to undermines my point or by breaking grammatical rules.

And that's not even going into the many words in English which gave their etymological roots in Christian ideas. Like, "Goodbye."

These pescatarian birds are directly exposed to PFAS contamination due to the island's position near the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Over fifty years of data show a peak in PFAS (also known as "forever chemicals") content in seabird eggs in the 90s, followed by a decrease as regulations went into effect. The most recent findings show a 70% decrease of most common PFAS.

While continued vigilance a regulation is needed, this data indicates that regulations are working to reduce PFAS concentrations in marine ecosystems.

Yes!!!! I did a review of literature on PFASs in human drinking water about half a year ago, and there is a lot of really good progress! Please celebrate this, please don't let this solution be forgotten (at least so quickly) as the ozone layer or acid rain.

We are making genuine progress! Producers are dramatically altering how much they use PFAS and how much gets released in effluent, but also there's a lot better understanding of how to remove PFAS from the environment!

1) schizophrenia hardly ever causes people to be violent so schizophrenic people aren’t more likely to be violent than anyone else

2) schizophrenic people’s autonomy is often taken away from them because of their schizophrenia. because the authorities and mental healthcare providers often automatically assume schizophrenic people to be violent, they’re more likely to immediately react to schizophrenic people's symptoms with violence, without even knowing for sure said schizophrenic person was going to be violent. all of this causes schizophrenic people to be more likely of being victims of violence and abuse. schizophrenic people also have a harder time getting out of abusive households because of the risk of their autonomy being taken away. if a schizophrenic person’s relative or partner is abusive, often the schizophrenic person has no way out of the situation, both because our disconnect from reality can result in us being easier to manipulate, and because the system is built in a way that it takes away our autonomy because of our condition.

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

I believe any theory regarding Ralsei's existence has to account for the fact that he is a Darkner. Maybe he's a special kind of Darkner, but he is a Darkner. Ralsei isn't entirely honest, but he rarely outright lies. He either doesn't bring up the actual truth, speaks vaguely about the truth, or just doesn't correct false assumptions.

Ralsei does seem to believe Plantners don't count as Darkners, so that's why I don't believe in that theory. If he was a Plantner, then I don't think he'd call himself a Darkner. I'm not sure exactly what he is, but I don't think Ralsei was lying about being a Darkner, just not being specific about the whole truth.

In general, I think theories that rely on Ralsei outright lying kinda fall flat for that reason. He can be wrong (those scenes in Chapter 5 where Ralsei learns about the old Dark World demonstrates he doesn't know everything), and he isn't fully honest, but he's not liar.
