How Bryke fumbled the Buddhist enlightenment metaphor
Many ppl have written about how Bryke messed up the Buddhist enlightenment metaphor in ATLA
such as this post https://www.tumblr.com/emletish-fish/823780740436312064?source=share
As a Buddhist, here are my two cents
Long story short, Buddhism says there are two types of love: attachment and non attachment.
The former is selfish and possessive; it takes without giving back. It’s one sided in favor of the self. Think Anakin’s love for Padme.
the later is selfless; it gives, supports, empathizes etc etc. it places the needs of the other first. Think Naruto letting go of his crush on Sakura to respect her feelings for Sasuke.
Aang, in my opinion, has a one sided crush on Katara. She gives and gives, but he never gives back bc he projects his feelings of grief onto her.
He needed to let this go in order to grow and master the avatar state, which represents nirvana.
So……giving Aang the avatar state and Katara without having him let his possesive love for Katara go or mature is frankly insulting, sexist, and kind of racist.
the symbolism of zuko discussing his fears about not being forgiven by iroh with katara is so good because it explicitly outlines why katara forgave him. she could tell that he was genuinely apologetic about his actions and that is why she forgave him at the end of the southern raiders despite not being obligated to. the growth from their TSR moment until this scene is so meaningful because by this point, she can't even imagine iroh not forgiving him.
it's also why when antis assume (read: self insert) that katara still could never fully forgive his actions and just "barely tolerates him", it holds no weight because 1) she didn't have to walk over to have this conversation, 2) she's genuinely smiling through this whole conversation.

ummm guys
I wanna sew but I have no sewing stuff…….
I do actually find it so hilarious that zutara is so powerful Katara and Zuko were barely allowed to talk to each other in the movie
For zutara music enthusiasts. I love how our fandom keeps fighting the canon narrative. Making content even from official artists and composers and leaving imprints in canon even if ever so subtly.
i am so zutarapilled to the point that i see a beautiful sunset with hues of blues and reds and purples bleeding in and point and go That’s literally Zuko and Katara. They R literally Kissing. guys :(
@nalgasde-hao why isn’t this in your tumblr? 🤨🥰

One of my favorite fan arts for #ZutaraWeekCountdown
i need Debbie to bully him all the way to Talescria.
"People like Zutara cause it's dark and intriguing," and then the popular Zutara fanon tropes are like;
- Zuko helps Katara with the camp chores without being asked
hell yeah
