House of Feathers, Hall of Night — chapter 9 (coming soon)

Surprisingly, I was able to finish writing a chapter fairly quickly, despite all my grand talk about not having the time for anything any more. I suppose 7h in a train is enough to inspire even the most writer-blocked, busy mind X)

Well! I do think I'll be cutting down the length of the chapters from now on, so that updates are not that unfrequent and slow. Until now most of my chapters were between 10&15k words, I'm thinking of going down to a 5k average, we'll see. This one should be about 7k, so still a decent read, I think.

I've still to proofread and edit it, so we'll see how long that takes. But I wanted to keep you guys updated about it anyway! See you soon, and thank you for the kudos and comments that always make my day! Love you all!

Tremendous news, chapter 8 of House of Feathers, Hall of Night is out!

It's in my notes, but I wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone, and warn you all that unfortunately I'll be slowing updates A LOT again :( work is slowly piling up and I'm going to be very busy this year, so although I try to write a little every day, I'll simply have less time to dedicate to — well, everything. Please don't worry if there haven't been updates in months, I'll be working on it for sure, just slowly!

Working now on chapter 8 to the best of my abilities! In a week I will get extremely busy however (haha end of holidays help) so updates will have to slow down (again). Will I continue working on this? Yes. Will it probably take me months to update a chapter? Oh, for sure. Will I ever abandon this work? Nope!

But chapter 8, being already ~60% finished, should be posted sometime this week, at least! Stay tuned and thank you everyone for your support!

Chapter 7 of House of Feathers, Hall of Night is out!

Quietly, he continued, heart in his throat. I hope they haven’t abandoned me, he thought; then, No, they wouldn’t. Thorin would wait.

I'm very happy with myself for posting it relatively quickly this time. I can't believe the story is so long, it's more than 80k & clearly inching towards 100k+! There are soo many filler moments in this fic but this chapter is concise and to the point, I hope. Didn't have much time for thorough editing, however, since I'm moving :) Hope you guys enjoy and forgive the little mistakes! Thank you all!

Chapter 6 of House of Feathers, Hall of Night is out (baby)!

“Ha, you mean kind Mister Baggins. Hasn’t been home for days. May Eru preserve him, wherever he is.” “And... you didn’t see or hear anything suspicious?” Kíli asked, very suspiciously. The woman shrugged. “I suppose there was a bit of shouting that night. But you know, we’ve got drunks here too.”

It took me months for this chapter. It's finally done :)

I'm sorry to say that I am terrible at pacing (both my fics & my life) but hopefully you won't find this one too dull. No promises for ch7 coming out quick but many promises that this fic will never, ever be abandoned B)

I am exactly like Bilbo these days, and the reason for it is because I have terrible pacing for ch6, & need to settle ch7 at least somewhat before anything can be posted. My draft is a complete, terrible mess and has too many words yet no substance apparently. But! I am working on it every day.

I will be finishing this fic before setpember starts, I think. If everything goes right we still have five to six chapters to go, though maybe more... I'm not very good at chopping up my stories like that X))

Working moderately hard on it. I'm hitting a bit of a writer's block with this fic again, but I will do my best to get through it! It's my goal to finish it, once and for all, and I try to keep all of my promises.

For the Coming of Spring, Chapter 3: майрам — 𐰯𐰀𐰾𐱅𐰃𐰋'𐰃𐱅𐰘, is out now !

It's much bigger than she expected — the settlement, she means, but the valley too. The nomads have set up what must be two dozen yurts of beige wool, like piles of snow against the green grass. It looks like an anthill: people come and go, despite the early hour, some decorating the place, others cooking, others, still, running after the cattle. There’s a happy anticipation to the air, the nervous wait for better times. “Welcome,” Bofur says, and lifts his hat in a mock bow.

Thank you everyone for sticking around, and waiting so long, and now that I'm done with this passion project you'll be (maybe) happy to know that I'm dedicating all my time on House of Feathers, Hall of Night!! Since my PC broke I'm going to spend the whole day writing, all my study stuff being on my computer (terrible excuse for not doing 'proper' work).

To speak some more about FtCoS, chapter 3 is full of Bagginshield, ok. I finally delivered, so I'm happy. There are also soooo many things I'd love to have added, but it's long enough as it is and if I make one more hyperlink I will malfunction. I also edited and posted this in one shot, so if there are any awkward mistakes please forgive me, I'm so tired.

But it's done, and that's certainly worth celebrating!

“That is your greatest secret?” Bilbo’s incredulity is enough to send Thorin into an immediate spiral. “It’s such a burden, Bilbo, believe me,” she whines, and isn’t it a sight, to have someone as regal as Thorin petulantly complaining.

Guys. This chapter is almost 20k and will be by the time I'm done with it. I really want to finish it before June, but even if it is, it'll probably be posted after this weekend, since I have to do all the hyperlinks and that takes forever.

Nonetheless, I'm quite happy with how progress for this fic is going along. This is the last chapter, so I had to smash as much Bagginshield as I could into it, and so far so good, I think. I hope you guys will like it!!

As for House of Feathers, Hall of Night, I've the structure of chapter 6 down, just need to write it. Sigh. That, too, will take a month, but since FtCoS is finally ending, all my time will go to HF,HN so updates should be faster. Maybe.

Studying has been a pain in the ass, if I'm honest, so I'm speaking entirely in hypotheticals. (insert melting face gif)

And her gaze — oh, her gaze. So vibrant, so pointed, so true, only on Bilbo, all for Bilbo, until it seizes her heart, does not let go, and she can scarcely breathe.

Yes, I am still writing this, though progress is regrettably slow. Nonetheless, I wanted to share this tiny snippet because I'm using this chapter to cram as much Bagginshield as I can into it, and it's lesbian, so I can go crazy with their interactions and the way they describe each other! I mean, just the paragraph before the lines you see above is Bilbo gushing internally about how beautiful Thorin seems to her, and the next one is Thorin gushing about Bilbo.

It's so nice to write them with more flourish than I usually do, just because I find that such eager and outspoken admiration between them fits better when they're lesbians (you know how girls compliment each other). And because I understand the subject much more personally, writing them as lesbians is much easier for me, haha.

Boring rant below. I discourage reading it if you don't want to waste your time.

I'm actually going into a tough academic year this September and I fear I might have no time to write at all — of course, I will finish HF,HN and For the Coming of Spring by then, and maybe, if I'm motivated, I'll even post some actual one-shots (will probably still end up either super long or divided into chapters... sigh), but the true project I want to see light given to is this fic called Dark Eyes Stained Light.

I spoke about it on here before, but since then the plot has changed quite a bit as there are so many things I want to fit into it, but I've recently reached something I'm happy with, and all is left is to write it... right?

Well, that's the thing — I can tell it's going to be massive. Probably around 100k, if not more, which is a lot!!! of! time! to spend writing those 100k words. No idea if I can make it, is what I'm saying, and I'm afraid I'll lose my motivation for fanfic if I have to stop for at least 9 months.

That's been my biggest dilemma, recently; I suppose I'll just have to finish my current projects first, and see how I feel then. This will probably come up again in a couple weeks.

Chapter 5 of House of Feathers, Hall of Night is out baby!!!

“You said they travelled West. With the caravans?” “Some of them. Others stayed, but you know how such things went.” Bilbo spoke with lightness and a practised detachment, though he was beginning to feel a familiar fraying on the edges, such that a loose string caught by deft fingers and an observant eye could likely make him come undone.

Hope you enjoy this little in-between, I want to say almost a breather but not quite, before the real action starts. Though, again, when will it come, I have yet to figure out, whoops.

I'm glad I could post it as promised, on Sunday, and now I'm off to work of For the Coming of Spring, and chapter 6 of this annoying, crying little shit of a fic (affectionate).

I can't believe it's taking me a month on average to write one chapter. I thought I'd never see the end of it, and there are a lot of things I was going to add and pushed back to chapter 6.

My excuse is that I'm travelling (again) & my PC finally got a new RAM card so I've been speedrunning A Plague Tale: Requiem. 🤭

No time for writing when you're busy killing guards and running from rats!

All of this to announce the actual news: there's only one (1) scene left to write + editing. So... chapter 5 out before Sunday, I should think. Thank you for your patience, everyone!

Haven't been active that much but I promise you all I'm working on both HF,HN & For the Coming of Spring. I was hit with a terrible writer's block for HF,HN but thankfully a little bit of a fight between Thorin & Bilbo solved that somewhat.

I guess I've been pretty busy with every day life — I leave my house sometimes, would you believe it — and when I have free time I just watch shows... Shout out to Rick & Morty s7 & The 3 Body Problem though, they're keeping me away from writing really efficiently.

Alright, enough rants. Back to writing X)

Five Fic Feedback!

Tagged by: No one! Seen this floating about a few fandoms, and decided to bring it over to bagginshield!

Rules: Pick five fics you've written, then tell us about how you feel about it vs how readers have received it!

1 - Bad Blood

My Thoughts: This one is way bigger than I meant it to be! It was going to be about 5k words and the only scene I had in my head was Bilbo biting the elven guard, haha! Readers: People really seem to love this one! I feel like feral Bilbo is always a crowd-pleaser, and this fic got much more attention than I ever expected it to! - 2 - Soldier My Thoughts: I'm really proud of this one. It was my first bagginshield fic, and it was after a loooong break from writing. Even though it's a bit weak in places, I have such a soft spot for it. Readers: I ended up re-posting this one after some harassment kicked my confidence down the toilet, but since then the reception has been very positive! - 3 - Poet My Thoughts: I'm sorry to say it, but this is probably my least favourite fic I've written. If it wasn't so popular I'd have removed it and altered the end of Soldier so it was just one fic! Readers: This fic seems to be very popular, and was the first time someone made art of my work - and more than once! I remember posting the first chapter and not expecting very much, only to come onto tumblr and see random posts where folks were super excited to see it was updating! It was such a lovely feeling! - 4 - My Ego Dies My Thoughts: I genuinely love this one, I think it's probably my personal favourite. I really enjoy playing about with the idea of "forgiveness" between Bilbo and Thorin, and this fic really scratched a particular itch for me! Readers: Probably my least popular fic - statistically, at least! I've found most folk weren't into it for one reason or another, but the people who love it, really, really love it! -

5 - Stealing Moments, Moments Away My Thoughts: I wish I'd taken more time with this one in some ways, but in others it really is the reshirement fic I wanted to tell. Again, I got to tinker with that "forgiveness" trope, and have a good look at what survival might realistically have meant for Thorin. Readers: This one is a quick read, and it's soft and fluffy, so I think readers enjoy it for that reason, though I believe some found it a bit boring. It was being updated almost daily, and the folks who were invested came back to comment and read practically every time I updated, which was just amazing to me! - 6 - Backs To The Wall (Sorry, I've written six, so I wanted to do all of them!) My Thoughts: I wrote this because it was something I wanted to read, and couldn't find. It's been amazingly fun, and I told myself when I started (knowing it was going to be fairly long - even if I didn't realise quite how long at the time, haha) that I wasn't going to take it too seriously, and I was really only writing this for myself, as the most self-indulgent kind of nonsense, ever! Readers: I can't begin to tell you how utterly blown away by the response to this I've been. Like?? It's just crazy to me how much folks are enjoying this, how excited and supportive everyone has been! I only have 4 fics at the moment, but here goes anyway:

1. A Tale for the Road

My thoughts: my very first fic for this fandom — I knew nothing, but I was enthusiastic, and it was also my very first post on tumblr, advertising it. Is it good? No, it's a bit boring and the characterisations are off. Do I hate it? Nope! It's what launched me into Bagginshield and I can respect that.

Readers: least popular fic, and they'd be right not to read it. It's just a bit weird. Perhaps one day I might remove it entirely 🤭

2. Within the Waves

My thoughts: soo proud of this one, since it's the first fic EVER that I finished. Writing it was fun and a great learning experience. I was so happy when I posted the last chapter, it very much felt like a well-deserved victory.

Readers: 2nd most popular fic in terms of stats! Lots of regular readers for this one who commented at every new update, lots of support, it was lovely. I thought it would be too niche but honestly it got quite a bit of traction, and even now, I get kudos and the occasional comment that makes me very happy!

3. House of Feathers, Hall of Night

My thoughts: very much self-indulgent. I wanted to do something special for Nooruz, and it was an idea that had sat in my head for months at that point. Honestly, I'm very happy with it. Writing it is a breath of fresh air, since my writing style is a bit different in it, and I just love researching my own culture and talking about things I love. Genuinely my favourite fic of all time. Plus, it's lesbian Bagginshield. Come on, guys. How can I not like it!

Readers: everyone was really supportive, I was shocked! It's so niche I was ready for no interaction whatsoever, but I've had lots of kudos and every comment is long, detailed, and heartwarmingly kind. It's not many people's cup of tea, but those who have read it seem invested, and I'm very happy it has reached as many people as it did!

4. House of Feathers, Hall of Night

My thoughts: arghhh I fell back into my typical mistakes with this one. Seems too unplanned and all over the place for me, the plot has as many holes as there are black holes in our universe and writing it is both really fun and a pain in the ass. I'd have liked to change a shit ton of things, but whatever, I just have to persevere.

Readers: most popular fic by far! You guys really like it, for some reason. More interaction than I'd expect, honestly just a lot of love for it. Eternally grateful for it, of course. Thank you all!!
