Today I’ll be signing out of this account for the final time. I won’t be deleting it, but simply signing out and letting it go. As you’ll have realised, my writing hasn’t been updated in a while. I have gone through a lot of changes in my personal life that demand my time. In the past year and a half I have met my beautiful partner George and I am starting up my own bakery business which has been a dream of mine for as long as I have known.
However, before I go I wanted to get my thoughts and opinions on Harry and Meghan recorded somewhere.
I am of the opinion that yes, some of the reporting about meghan and her life etc. Will have been racially motivated. Having worked with the press both as a journalist and in PR, I’m almost certain some of the negativity will have come from a place of prejudice. However, having said that, we just need to look at how the press treats Fergie (and still does to this day). Press wise, Diana was on a pedestal where the press placed her and you still can’t knock her off even today wheras Fergie was instantly written up as a liability even though there is A LOT of evidence that Diana wasn’t all sunshine and roses. (Just on that note, I’m not hating on Diana but no one is a saint 24/7). With this in mind, from day one Meghan would be destined to have it hard from the press and pulled against Kate.
However, the best way to go against the press is to A: not rise to it and B: keep a clean slate. If you don’t do either of these things, you’re feeding the beast. Yes you might be seen as boring but it won’t give them anything to bother you with. They’ll still dredge up that awful thing you did in school but if you don’t rise to it, it doesn’t feed their greed. Some members of the press are like school bullies in the way that, if you retaliate, they’ve won. (Obviously, there’s a line of legality here where if the press are libellous, slanderous, harassing etc you can sue them). One of the ways to do that is to stick to your story and not leave the goal open for them. For example, when the couple were talking about global warming and how we need to cut our use of planes etc to the point where they don’t plan on having more kids, then using a private jet several times in a week is just hypocritical and giving the press reason to write. (Yes, I know lots of people do the same thing including Prince Charles). No matter how many trees you plant, more people would typically see the first headline than the follow up story.
I think that’s all I wanted to put down. But stay safe, love each other, create art in anyway you can, feel in colour, listen to Lizzo.
The past decade on here has been a blast but new adventures are on their way.
