Helaena, my sweet girl
Cooke’s past experience has taught her to seek out happiness, and even peace, wherever she can. More than the bandage-dresses and “paralytic” drinking of her early 20s, she says, she regrets taking herself so seriously. “I just had to grow up so quickly–: I was the only person taking care of me. Now I wish that I could go back and just be like: God, relax.” Hence the regression this summer. “I feel like I’m reliving my early 20s. I just feel so solid in who I am… Weirdly, the older I get, the younger I feel.”
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, OLIVIA COOKE! — December 27, 1993
ppl love to act like the popular brand of morally gray™️ is a requirement for characters to be classified as complex. characters considered to be pretty far in towards the pure white or pure black sides of the spectrum can still be multidimensional. “neither good or bad” is not the only way characters have depth and complexity. it is like saying cersei lannister isnt a complex character
To be honest, i laughed so hard when someone had the guts to tell me that Viserys married "a random woman from some house" when the woman is Alicent Hightower from House Hightower.
House Hightower, existing since the dawn of days, established in Westeros before the First Men themselves. House Hightower, lords of Oldtown, the largest and richest city in the Seven Kingdoms after King's Landing. But sure, House Hightower is some random house...
Oldtown is still the richest city in Westeros in GoT timeline, King's Landing is larger only by population
The Hightower (extra) lore is fascinating to read. Even though they are not much mentioned in the main books, their power play is still there; it's just that the lords of the hightower prefer subtlety. Leyton Hightower isn't prominently featured in the Battle of the Blackwater in acok yet he gets honors from Joffrey like the rest of the victors AND a seat at the small council table (Alerie's marriage to Mace helps as well). They are a House constantly moving in and out of shadows (when it suits them), soft controlling the continent through the Citadel and the Faith for hundreds if not thousands of years
Dead Blondes and Bad Mothers, Sady Doyle//Queen Alicent Hightower from House of the Dragon
people call this man liberated like he didn’t brutally murder his first wife because she wounded his pride and call every women he didn’t fuck with a cunt or a bitch. like he’s actually very much not liberated and i find it weird people think he is.
Not you making a pro Rhaenyra post after hating on her lmao
i really don't hate rhaenyra as a character though.
i think the show!version of her is literally the definition of y\n Targaryen with as many dany references as possible to cover up the fact that she has no personality traits of her own, the only times she's entertaining is when the plot needs her to act book accurate (driftmark, dragonseeds ep) but it feels very forced and out of character. so yeah my main criticism is that she's very poorly written
book rhaenyra's an interesting character. but i think people really need to accept the fact that yes, she was wronged. alicent and otto are the villains in her story, but she's the villain in nettles story, she's the villain in helaena's story. she has done horrible stuff, and the fact that people were horrible to her & horrible stuff happened to her doesn't cancel out all of her wrongdoings.
Straight up, I want HOTD to get cancelled. I know how horrible I sound. It's atrociously vindictive of me, I'll admit it. It's just that I have no patience for this show being on air and wasting the efforts of truly talented people on and offscreen when it all comes down to the subpar writing and the ludicrous management from David Zaslav.
Agree because it's sad that this show really will whimper its way into obscurity for its at best underwhelming mediocrity. When all you have is aesthetic and contemporary pop feminism to carry your show in the absence of zero compelling themes or characters there is nothing that will define this show beyond that. When really this could've been a show that had a meaningful story with compelling characters and resonant themes, and the writers had a complete story to expand upon. Truly sad that this is what Fire and Blood's and to an extent GRRM's legacy in the general popular TV culture will be reduced to. 😞
people point out sansa as a strange stark name choice when every other starkling is sooooooo clearly named after someone close to ned specifically and honestly i think the answer is when sansa was born cat just looked at the Top 200 Stark Names for You New Baby Girl and picked a pretty one. no further questions
also everyone who complains about season one sansa can suck my fat cock. the "or maybe he'll give me yours" rebuttal? after being forced to stare at the severed head of her father who was murdered for being a traitor? that was so fucking powerful. she is so strong and she always has been. and those "bratty" moments people complain about? yeah okay clearly you've never been a twelve year old girl.
littlefinger was able to get away w having a bastard daughter who looks suspiciously like catelyn stark bc all the vale lords noticed but immediately went oh petyr got the prostitute/peasant girl he could find who most closely resembled catelyn tully pregnant right around the time she married ned stark. extremely likely thing for petyr to do
theyre spraying him

it's crazy to realise that Tyrion is just 3 years older than Viserys. Those two could have been toddling together.
