Little note to remind myself writing about Charles and his way of saying "Henry is not that smart" out of avoiding blame, which lead to the fandom theory that Henry is not as intelligent and clever. Henry is smarter than any of them, and that destroys Charles, and his guilt. Another day I'll formulate.

My theory about what really happened in "The Secret History" has always been that a large animal such as a mountain lion killed the farmer in the woods and that the characters stumbled upon the body and in their disassociation tried to "save" the farmer thereby getting blood all over themselves. They don't remember that he was dead when they found him and so therefore assumed they were the ones to kill him. I could be completely wrong but I seem to remember a line from the book where they're driving from the house in the woods to Bunny's funeral Richard says he could have sworn he saw a large animal crossing the road in front of them. I don't believe this line was simply a throwaway, I think it is the clue to piecing together what really happened that night in the woods. Therefore, technically if that's true Bunny's death was for nothing essentially.
