Where can we go when, in Africa, we are suffering without democracies to protect us? When we flee our countries, we hope that places like America and other democratic nations will be safe for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Right now, we are a group of transgender refugees in a camp in Africa, struggling to survive. We barely have access to food, medication, or basic necessities. Many of us are suffering from H.pylori infections due to unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation. We are also battling typhoid and malaria without access to proper medical care. On top of this, transphobia within the refugee camp prevents us from working or securing shelter, we are forced to sleep outside because we lack enough shelter to accommodate us which isn’t safe . We need your help to ensure that all LGBTQ+ people, especially transgender refugees, can live safely and with dignity. Please, stand with us and help make a difference. 🏳️‍⚧️

this is kind of a 2015 style post but a reiteration sometimes feels necessary:

as Valentine’s Day approaches, here is your reminder that not experiencing romantic/sexual attraction the same way other people do, including not experiencing it at all or in varying degrees/circumstances, is natural human variation and it is not odd if you do not yearn for a relationship.

every post around this time of year is about people either celebrating their relationships or lamenting that they are single, and while that’s all fine and they are entitled to do so, it can feel alienating to us who are on the aromantic/asexual spectrums. you’re not broken or messed up if you don’t feel the way everyone else seems to about these things. the social standard is that everyone should want a relationship and constantly be yearning for one, and that’s soooo not the case for so many of us. hell, even when i like someone, i don’t feel a strong desire for a relationship/to not be single. that is how i experience my aromanticism and i don’t have to feel weird or bad about it. neither should you!

#mostly i make this post out of frustration because #(1) every post on my feed rn is about the incurable desire for a relationship that i simply do not feel #and (2) lately even well meaning and great friends just don’t understand how I experience crushes so I’ll talk abt the person i like rn #and they’ll make all these leaps about how i must be deeply yearning all the time or really want to be in a committed relationship #and I know they only say those things because to them it’s a no brainer; allo people tend to think of those as the default #but the way i experience attraction is SO different from that and idk how to even explain it out loud to them #it can be frustrating trying to explain myself and they can’t grasp WHY i don’t want certain things while simultaneously having a crush #aromatic #asexual #aromanticism #asexuality #aro #ace #aroace #lgbtq #lgbt #queer #valentines day #txt #fable originals

honestly? i don’t want a romantic relationship. everything that supposedly comes with them - holding hands, cuddling, saying i love you, having a deep bond, etc - i already get in most of my friendships. and those really just sound like friendship to me. and the other things like kissing and sex and shit i dont really like. i’m pretty satisfied as i am, living as a single dude right now. i dont even feel attraction that much anyway. why bother?

It's been hard to find events for Black ace/aro people, and so I decided to make a Meetup group.

Black Aros & Aces is a community for Black people to connect with others on the aromantic and/or asexual spectrum. If you're questioning, you're welcome too!

All events are online in the Discord server; Meetup is only used to verify members. The Discord link will be provided after you join the Meetup group.
