hola friends! some very quick and scribbly observational drawings from January. also, a random thought of the day: bumping into your limitations is actually ... really freeing? yeah, it hurts when you realize you need help and you're not going to make it if you just keep trying all by yourself - but then you're free to go ask for help and make a new plan and try again. hola friends! I came home on Wednesday from my 18-month mission in California. I don’t have words for the gratitude I feel to my Savior for what He has done with me and for me in my time among the amazing people of California. He has changed me for the better, and I’m so grateful for the confidence and peace he’s given me about the future. I’m still figuring a lot out, but through it all, He’s been helping me find peace in the storms of life and direction in the fog of decision-making. A final round of figure drawings from last semester before I’m off to the wild blue yonder:) To everyone who’s helped me along this journey so far, I just want to say: thank you! The more I work at this whole animation thing, the more I realize nobody figures it out completely on their own. It amazes and humbles me that so many people offer their time and expertise to help and encourage me (and anyone who needs it), with kindness and patience. I’ve learned a lot about art and animation from these cool friends and teachers, but maybe even more about the kind of person I want to be and how I want to treat others. Thanks, everyone. Finished sketchbook! I had a run of absolutely awful drawings at the beginning of this sketchbook, so I kind of thought “oh well, I ruined it, guess this will just be a learning experience and I’ll throw the sketchbook out as soon as I’ve filled it up with more bad drawings. woohoo :/“ But this actually has been one of my favorite sketchbooks I’ve done recently - I think because I was free from the fear that comes with the pressure to make every page perfect. And instead I ended up trying to learn something with each page. And finding the joy and fun in the process. There ARE a lot of bad drawings in this sketchbook! But there are also a lot that I love. And more importantly, lots and lots of drawings that I LEARNED from. I guess we’ve all heard that a lot, but I feel like I have to keep re-learning it by experience. In both drawing and life! Fear of failure messes us up even more than actual failure sometimes (and “learning experience” doesn’t have to be a euphemism for “really terrible experience”!)
