i get it. sp and octocon shutting down sucks. it was annoying for my system too, having to figure out what to do with our data.
however i feel that some of yall are forgetting that The App isn’t the only way to keep track of your info.
you can use a time tracker app to track front. you could use a time clock sheet. to broadcast front, you can send a message to a discord chat whenever you log a switch. you can also still use pluralkit to do this.
for tracking alter info. you can use a spreadsheet, a word document, a note-taking app, or literally Anything that lets you type words into it. there are also a lot of tools for oc tracking that you could use.
for proxying messages on discord, there’s pluralkit, d-proxy, tupperbox, and /plu/ral. i’m sure there are even more proxy bots than that.
and hell, if pen and paper is an option for you, you could use a journal and track whatever you want, however you want.
because here’s the thing about online apps. They All Shut Down. servers have finite lifespans and cannot run forever. every single online service, even the ones that millions rely on every day, will shut down eventually. in other words, this was always going to happen, we just didn’t know when. it sucks that it was this soon, but so be it.
and so because we know that these apps could shut down at any time, it is really not a good idea to rely on a singular online platform to store all of your extremely important and sensitive personal data.
i urge you to back your shit up offline. even if it’s just like a json export of your simply plural and pluralkit. idc. just back it up somewhere so you don’t lose everything in the event of a shutdown!
and like once again, i get it. it is tough to lose a tool that you’ve been relying on for so long, especially when that tool is niche and no 1:1 alternatives are available. but like, isn’t the point of facing adversity to overcome it? don’t we want to keep going and figure out solutions instead of cussing out the developers who have done nothing but volunteer thousands of hours and dollars for the good of the community?
like, be mad. be upset. be sad. grieve if you need. but we as a community need to come together and be positive instead of focusing on all the bad.
