appalachia is devastated. towns i loved, towns i visited all the time, are gone. not damaged, GONE. they are leveled to the ground. there is nothing left but rubble and ruin. people are dead. appalachia is poor to begin with and relies on tourism for a lot of its income, and multiple of those tourist locations are just...gone.
my town is okay, but it's flooded and wrecked. trees are blocking all but one way out of our neighborhood. power lines are hanging limp in the roads. we've been without power for over 24 hours and will continue to be without power for likely another 24+. disabled people and poor people are GOING to die from this. gods save appalachia.
it's always a hit or miss with appalachian charities. a lot are just evangelism with no action behind what they do. i suggest looking into them before donating.

adding some additional photos from the other side of the mountains here in northeast tennessee. there has been genuinely catastrophic flooding in many areas and billions of dollars of damage across NETN and WNC. we are not built to withstand this. 33 people are currently missing in unicoi county alone
to those of you reblogging this, thank you. i have not seen one negative comment about appalachia and i cannot put into words what that means as someone who has lived here for their entire life. we are used to being mocked, scorned, and dismissed, to being the butt of classist jokes, and y'all aren't doing that. thank you. so much.

Another week of Smaugust
Random rant. Maybe I'm just ignorant but the term "TERF" no longer seems adequate to describe the anti-trans movements that we're witnessing. Trans-Exclusionary (Radical) Feminist suggests two implications that are now incorrect. First, that their main concern are feminist socio-political goals; and second, that their movement concerns itself with trans people only in the measure that they exclude them from their movement itself and from their goals. However, these people can in no way be described as feminists now, since they ally themselves with conservative extremists that actively fight against women's right (like abortion rights), and they cannot be described as 'trans-exclusionary' since the entire, singular point of their movement seems to be opposing trans people's rights. If they were simply trans-exclusionary feminists, they would pursue feminist goals while excluding trans women from their notion of women and women's rights. As it is, their goal is exclusively to bash trans people, while supporting their political allies' undermining of women's rights.
A bit of Smaugust going on
I hate this so much.
If you'd like to support musicians streaming rights and fair pay you should support United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) who are actively working against Spotify and services unfair streaming policies.
Can you take action to create a new streaming royalty for musicians? UMAW has been working with US Representative Rashida Tlaib and he
This is a link to write a letter urging your state representatives to support UMAW & Rep. Tlaib's H.Con.Res. 102. Below is a link to their website with other ways to support them further!
The Union of Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) has mobilized thousands of music workers to take part in our first actions around the COVID

No but you're right and you should say it.
Facebook deleted this almost immediately. It's almost like the ultrawealthy don't want us knowing or talking about what's at stake.
Just want to add one thing:
In countries with universal healthcare, this is a non-issue during a strike. Our access to healthcare isn't tied to working. It's an unconditional right for each and everyone of us.
The US system screws workers over in oh so many ways.
This is exactly why US companies fight so hard against universal healthcare; even if single payer healthcare is cheaper on a per-person basis and takes the cost away from the employer, it also takes POWER and leverage away from the employers... and they don't ever want to give that up.
Beware of what spin is coming next in the media about the union strikes! The Levinson Group is real good at its job, so there's gonna be a lot of undermining happening soon. Don't fall for it!
As a WGA strike captain put it on Twitter:
They could just pay their workers fairly, instead of throwing money at PR firms to pretty up how they treat people like garbage.
Mongolian armour - Huyag.
Most armour was made of hardened leather and iron, laced together onto a fabric backing, sometimes silk.
Because I'm only seeing other Jews posting about this, non-Jews I need you to be aware that for the past month or two there has been a wave of bomb threats and swattings at synagogues all across the US. They usually do it when services are being livestreamed. I haven't seen a single non-Jew talking about this. High holidays are coming up in a few weeks, which is when most attacks happen against our communities. We're worried, and we need people to know what's happening to us.
The synagogue bomb threats and swatting have hit more than 20 synagogues over the past month, according to security experts.

does anyone know if i can like block sites from appearing in my google images searches??? i keep getting those awful ai generated things with a hand coming out of a man's neck and just straight up not what i was looking for, because this was in a search for "curly hair in medieval paintings". it happens every time i search for anything vaguely art-reference-like and it's so fucking annoying and it clutters my search results so much. i don't wanna add specific commands to the query every time too, what i need is like a browser extension or something
Download uBlacklist for Firefox. Blocks sites you specify from appearing in Google search results
okay i found one! it works! everyone come get your blacklist 👍👍👍
I made a list of as many ai sites i could find to block with ublacklist, just copy and paste them in ublacklist's options menu
this is fucking huge, and it's very easy to add more to the filter when you spot a rogue ai piccie in the results. thank you so much for making this list
Hey, could you do me a favor?
Could you just RB this?
The little RB statistics chart is so pleasant and stimmy to look at and I want to see what it looks like when it gets really REALLY huge because it makes me think of some deep sea lifeform
