What’s funny is that this actually happened.
I’m unfamiliar with this story please elaborate
Finnish soldier gets separated from the rest of his unit but he’s the only one carrying the emergency amphetamines for the unit, takes too many and goes on a one man rampage for like 2 weeks straight giving the opposing Soviet soldiers nightmares for decades. Oh and he did it all on skis.
Did he survive?
Yes, during his methed up 2-3 week rampage he got injured by a land mine, travelled 400km on skis, and only ate pine buds and a Siberian Jay that he caught which he ate raw. When he made it back to Finnish lines he was taken to a hospital where it was found his heart rate was nearly 200 beats per minute and his weight had dropped to 43kg (94.7lbs).
His name was Aimo Koivunen if you want to look him up

it's 2022. donald trump has died in disgrace days after being impeached and jailed. my chemical romance's new album is coming out the same day as the new spiderverse movie. the lizzo and janelle monaé collab song is blowing up the radio. lil nas x has a verse in it. you and your partner have time and energy for dates after work after jeff bezos' assets have been seized and distributed to the public in the wake of his arrest for keeping employees in unsafe working conditions.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT GARY LARSON DISCOVERED DIGITAL MEDIA AND NOW HE'S MAKING COMIC STRIPS AGAIN THIS IS NOT A DRILL
Visit the official online home of The Far Side comic strip by Gary Larson for your daily dose of Gary’s classic cartoons.
there's three of them so far and I won't spoil it but they are ABSOLUTELY on the level of his old stuff
HE’S BACK BABY!!!
(You have to click the “The Daily Dose” toggle up at the top for the new stuff and yes, he’s back on his Bullshit in the best way possible)
"I don’t want to mislead anyone here. This corner of the website—“New Stuff”—is not a resurrection of The Far Side daily cartoons. (Well, not exactly, anyway—like the proverbial tiger and its stripes, I’m pretty much stuck with my sense of humor. Aren’t we all?) The thing is, I thoroughly enjoyed my career as a syndicated cartoonist, and I hope, in spirit at least, we had some laughs together. But after fifteen years of meeting deadlines, well, blah blah blah … you know the rest. The day after I retired from syndication, it felt good not to draw on a deadline. And after moving on to other interests, drawing just wasn’t on my to-do list. Things change. But then a few years ago—and returning to the subject at hand—something happened in my life, and it started with a clogged pen.
Despite my retirement, I still had intermittent connections to cartooning, including my wife’s and my personal Christmas card. Once a year, I’d sit myself down to take on Santa, and every year it began with the same ritual: me cursing at, and then cleaning out, my clogged pen. (Apparently, the concept of cleaning it before putting it away each year was just too elusive for me.) As problems go, this is admittedly not exactly on the scale of global warming, but in the small world of my studio, it was cataclysmic. Okay, highly annoying.
So a few years ago—finally fed up with my once-loyal but now reliably traitorous pen—I decided to try a digital tablet. I knew nothing about these devices but hoped it would just get me through my annual Christmas card ordeal. I got one, fired it up, and lo and behold, something totally unexpected happened: within moments, I was having fun drawing again. I was stunned at all the tools the thing offered, all the creative potential it contained. I simply had no idea how far these things had evolved. Perhaps fittingly, the first thing I drew was a caveman.
The “New Stuff” that you’ll see here is the result of my journey into the world of digital art. Believe me, this has been a bit of a learning curve for me. I hail from a world of pen and ink, and suddenly I was feeling like I was sitting at the controls of a 747. (True, I don’t get out much.) But as overwhelmed as I was, there was still something familiar there—a sense of adventure. That had always been at the core of what I enjoyed most when I was drawing The Far Side, that sense of exploring, reaching for something, taking some risks, sometimes hitting a home run and sometimes coming up with “Cow tools.” (Let’s not get into that.) But as a jazz teacher once said to me about improvisation, “You want to try and take people somewhere where they might not have been before.” I think that my approach to cartooning was similar—I’m just not sure if even I knew where I was going. But I was having fun.
So here goes. I’ve got my coffee, I’ve got this cool gizmo, and I’ve got no deadlines. And—to borrow from Sherlock Holmes—the game is afoot.
Again, please remember, I’m just exploring, experimenting, and trying stuff. New Stuff. I have just one last thing to say before I go: thank you, clogged pen.
—Gary Larson"
This is so great! Stay curious, kids.
executive dysfunction is telling yourself for two and a half hours that you need to shower bc you smell like your workplace and you absolutely Cannot do Anything Else until you shower, doing Any Other Thing before showering is illegal!!! but you still haven’t for some reason??? you’ve just been sitting on your bed in a towel scrolling tumblr for 2+ hours thinking “I need to shower right now immediately” and growing increasingly frustrated that you are still not clean and you haven’t eaten or done your laundry either
ok actually no I’m reblogging this because a) I am clean now (and I smell amazing, thank you), and b) I had a heckin Realize and I wanted to share it with y’all in the hopes it’ll help someone else with a brain like mine.
I figured something out about myself a long time ago– it’s only just now occurred to me that I was in fact solving a problem caused by executive dysfunction, and I haven’t been implementing this solution lately because my brain went “that’s a relatively new term to me and therefore a Different problem that requires a Different solution”. thanks a lot, brain.
anyway, long long ago, before I knew these fancy schmancy Official words, the problem, as I phrased it to myself, was such:
sometimes I get Stuck. I was doing something, or on my way to doing something, and then… I just. got stuck.
“Stuck” looks like refreshing my feed or dashboard repeatedly. or it looks like staring at a spot on the wall. or chewing my fingernails. or picking at a stubborn sticker. all the while, my brain drifts through various unrelated topics I wouldn’t be able to recall if asked. sometimes I can get Stuck for hours before realizing I am Stuck. sometimes I get so Stuck that I go to bed that way (feeling especially bad for being unproductive) and I have to just reset everything by sleeping.
one day I asked myself, “why is this happening? why am I stuck, right now, at this moment in time?” the answer, as it turns out, was pretty simple: I was trying to make a decision, and I got distracted. I haven’t moved forward because I haven’t answered that one question or made up my mind.
let me rephrase this in terms of executive dysfunction: many people have expressed that it feels like knowing you need to do a thing but not feeling “ready” to do it. many with ADHD may also be familiar with the feeling of needing things to be “just so” before you embark on a task- you need your setup to look a certain way, or you need to set a timer, or have the right music playing, etc.
when I get Stuck it’s often because I got lost somewhere in that setting-up process, and my brain took the opportunity to nyoom off into Distraction Town.
getting myself Unstuck is solved, 95% of the time, by tracing my steps back to the original decision I was trying to make- often something small and inane- and then troubleshooting from there. (out loud! verbal processing is totally punk.)
“what was I trying to do?”
“was I trying to decide between two things?”
(the answer’s usually yes.)
“what were they?”
“okay, let’s decide.
“okay, that’s settled. let’s move on.”
and then I am free as a bird to nyoom in the direction of The Thing I Wanted To Do All Along, in the amazingly disorganized, scattered, yet rapid-fire way that I do many things.
so!!! in the case of my first post, where I hadn’t showered for 2 hours? turns out I had been trying to decide what music to listen to in the shower. (another hack: my chances of getting Stuck while showering decrease by 75% if I have music playing to help me keep track of time.) I couldn’t immediately make up my mind, got lost in thought, got distracted, and drifted. once I stopped and asked- “why am I stuck?”- then I remembered- “oh yeah! I wanted to listen to music”- and then decided- “I want to listen to Daft Punk’s Discovery album”- I was finally heckin able to shower. and also eat, and also throw my clothes in the dryer.
and may I add I only zoned out once, during the slow part of “One More Time.” :P
I’m not saying this is a foolproof method. sometimes I don’t have a reason for being stuck, and that’s okay! I’m also not saying this is how every adhd brain works. it’s just how my brain works, and I’m sure there’s at least a few who can relate. for those few, I hope this helps!!
a lot of people are reblogging the original post without the update and leaving frustrated comments and that makes me sad! if I can find ways to hack my brain than so can you! executive dysfunction is a real and frustrating challenge, but don’t buy the lie that there’s no way to work with it or around it!!!

Jsyk, they say the second wave in the US is going to hit between September and November, most likely. Stay safe and keep washing your friggin’ hands!
Remember to stay aware of your local safety measures, which can be found on the official government sites for your states, provinces, or territories.
Some interesting facts:
The man in charge of public health at the time openly encouraged people to attend the victory parades. Other public health officials pleaded for people not to attend
The first wave killed 3-5 million. The second killed 20-50 million.
One aspect to the increased deaths during the second wave was people becoming infected at the same time. This led to a surge on hospitals hitting at the same time. Not only did those with the virus die before they could be treated, but non-infected emergencies were unable to be treated. This led to exponential death rates.
When the second wave hit, places like San Francisco refused to wear masks in public. They also stopped social distancing. San Francisco ended up with one of the highest fatality rates in the US.
Moral of the story: even if your state “opens up”, stay home if you are able. If not, wear a mask, wash your hands, and practice social distancing.
Hey, quick question, how loud do the dog whistles have to get before everyone finally calls him what he is??
Also this:
The latest in series of alleged dog whistles and outright white nationalist messages from Trumpworld comes in the form of an $88 baseball.
A very important time to also remind everyone what America First means historically as well with the political cartoon from Dr. Seuss. They're a known fascist party with direct link to and in full support of Nazism in American History. This is a calculated move
Thank you for this reminder!
I also wanted to chime in again on this post bc there’s quite a bit of “he’s just not that smart” or “that’s a reach” about the 1st tweet in the notes. I have a couple of replies:
Firstly, Trump’s Twitter acct is notoriously NOT run exclusively by him so it’s entirely possible he was unaware of the character counts, etc. But that’s hardly the point here...if his closest advisors and idk what to call them...handlers? are fucking Nazis then our president is a fucking Nazi 🤷♀️
Secondly, whether or not he knows origins and meanings of 14/88 shit (I’d guess he DOES but I digress) his spoken rhetoric is pretty consistently overtly white supremacist in nature.
Dan Scavino may be the tweet writer. He's shared anti-Semitic/neo-nazi content from Trump's account in the past. He also rts infowars and various conspiracy theories.
Dan Scavino has shared articles from websites that claim 9/11 was an 'inside job', Michelle Obama is a man and Beyonce is funded by the CIA
also, its incredibly important to be super wary of dogwhistles. dont dismiss them, even if you think that they’re just a coincidence. thats how neo-nazis slip under the radar, thats how accumulate power and recruit/unify other neo-nazis. thats the point of dogwhistles- to be innocuous enough that they can be passed off as “just a coincidence.” take this kind of this really seriously.

How to DESTROY Trump's data harvesting machine by webdev data analyzer, steampunk fantasy author, and swordfighter/archer Claire Ryan:
Okay I want to talk about the TikTok/K-pop stan let’s-troll-Trump operation and specifically about the data gathering aspect of it.
If you’ve been keeping up with the whole MO of the Trump campaign, Cambridge Analytica, micro-targeting of demographics on social media shit etc etc, you’ll know that gathering people’s info in order to shill for donations is a HUGE revenue stream.
AFAIK that was the reason he ran. To campaign, get donations from the MAGAts, funnel vast lakes of money into his businesses.
Like, it was just that simple. Doesn’t take much to feed racists the messaging they want to hear and suck money out of them.
The Russians/GOP/various other factors caused him to win, which was not in the plan, but anyway Trump at least knows that firing up the base = MONEY.
Yes yes, donations from big GOP donors, but you have to understand - there was a vast lake of untapped racist small donations that Trump plugged a hose into back in 2016.
That hose is powered by data.
(For reference: I’m a senior web dev specializing in data processing and analysis so I sort of know what I’m talking about.)
Have you seen those spammy emails that Trump supporters get, asking for money? Yeah, they’re carefully tuned to get cash out of them.
(Side note, I used to work in online advertising.)
Your regular ad campaign that’s pitching, say, workout leggings uses a huge amount of data and A/B testing to determine what is effective. It’s advertising by statistics.
Part of the reason that FB is so goddamn big isn’t because it’s any good, it’s solely because you can advertise to users based on their bio details and their Likes. Having those signals to determine how likely a person is to buy a product is the stuff of an advertiser’s dreams.
Google works the same way TBH but at least Google’s core functionality is useful.
You think having personalized search results is creepy and invasive until you’re like me, a web dev looking for obscure code errors...
Like, Google is aware of the context of my searches and it always returns good results. If I’m looking for info on bash, for example, it’s not going to show me videos of street fights, I’ll get StackOverflow pages on the bash Linux shell.
Anyway: the thing about this stuff is that it runs on ACCURATE data.
The worst fucking thing about data analysis is when your data is corrupted or inaccurate, and you have no way of filtering it out. It means insights derived from the dataset are 100% junk.
Now, other thing to know is that zoomers and millennials are THE tech savvy people and I would hazard a guess that the vast majority know how internet advertising works. They know about the data tracking.
Probably not in any detail but the use of fake social media profiles and fake emails specifically to make advertising data worthless is a thing going back years.
So the troll operation in this case, by all accounts, used fake emails and temp Google Voice numbers.
And listen, people: you don’t know how fucking genius this is.
I will bet a month’s salary that some poor database admin is now staring at a dataset of over a million ticket reservations that they were going to use to shill for donations and feeling sick.
Not even just donations: I’d bet they were planning on using this data to cross reference against other sources and do additional micro-targeting.
Let’s say they were going to use it to ID moderates to advertise to them.
They might have planned to ID any Democrat trolls and just slide that particular subset on to someone who can fuck with voter registrations.
Or cross-reference signals on location, and determine how to direct their campaign spending based on that.
Anyway - point being, they were probably expecting some level of trolling but not this.
That dataset is probably complete junk. Any registration that doesn’t correlate somehow to known good information is now suspect.
Like, for voters who they have a profile on already, like committed MAGAts, they can probably select them out and add this data point to the profile for future use, but novel signups? The thing that Parscale was bragging about IIRC?
Junk.
You can’t tell the difference between a legit email/phone number and a fake email/Google Voice number.
By automated means, is what I’m saying. Obviously if the email is “[email protected]” that’s a pretty safe bet for being fake.
So at the very least, this means a TON of extra work for the marketing team at Trump HQ just to clean up the data (somehow) and make it usable.
At worst, it means they toss it.
And trust me on this: Trump may stiff contractors, but he ain’t stiffing them.
That team keeps the money hose working. They are absolutely getting paid.
So imagine if you spent a ton of money setting up a rally and getting the devops in place to collect marketing data (least you think those systems are cheap, they are not) and then...
A few hundred thousand tech-savvy teenage trolls showed up to ratfuck you.
I can’t think of any better example of the power of the people in the modern world than this.
So in conclusion, all the photos of the half-empty arena are nice, but the thing really making me giggle is the thought of Parscale staring at that database and wondering when he’ll be fired.
Quick PS to this thread: part of the reason that this is so genius is because Trump HQ likes to shill for donations by email.
Allow me to enlighten you to how much time and money you have to spend on good, large scale email campaigns in order to get results.
Answer: A FUCKTON.
And you live an die on the accuracy of your mailing list. Fake emails are the bane of your life.
Trump HQ now have to face whether they can drop $insert-ridiculous-money-here to run an email campaign on this dataset that is almost certainly 90% worthless and for which they may not be able to filter out the real registrations.
Again: without known good data to use as a filter, they can’t tell which is a fake registration and which is one from a voter they haven’t got on their lists yet.
And Trumpikins desperately needs to get to those voters.
Like I can’t even tell you how much this whole thing makes me both smile and just internally clench because I know what it feels like to stare down the barrel of a billion records you spent excessive time/money compiling and it’s all fucking wasted.
Other devops/data analysts will know that feeling. :P
Anyway I might be going viral and I don’t have a soundcloud, so get out and vote, Nazis fuck off, support #BlackLivesMatter, and give all the money and power to women of color and trans people
CLAIRE OUT

additional thoughts from me...
Y'all were doing this by screwing up some survey on the Trump campaign's website
But the suggestion was to fill out the forms with obvious fake email addresses and names. Revised suggestion: Use realistic email addresses and names. Don't use your real identity, but make it hard for them to filter out the noise.
Caveat: you know they'll be collecting whatever info they can from your device: IP, location etc-- and cross-correlating it with Facebook data or whatever they have trying to suss you out. I'm a Gen Xer who knows enough to be wary what I share online, so I'm hesitant to click on Trump campaign ads. But a lot of Gen Z knows how to use VPN and other tools to block spyware.

This isn’t a coincidence. Revolutions almost always happen when the population of a country is at its youngest and that’s a lot more true nowadays with social media.
Claudette Colvin was actually the first one to refuse her seat in Montgomery, Alabama to a white passenger. The movement chose to promote Rosa Parks as the figure for that form of protest because Claudette was a pregnant 15-year-old girl.
Barbara Rose Johns was a 16-year-old who organized a student strike protesting segregated schools. This strike, after gaining support of the NAACP, became a lawsuit that turned into Brown vs. The Board of Education and resulted in the desegregation of U.S schools nationally.
7th-grader Mary Beth Tinker, disturbed by the Vietnam War, decided to wear an arm band with a peace sign on it in protest. Her school suspended her. Her family filed a suit, Tinker vs. Des Moines, which reached the Supreme Court and ruled in her favor, ensuring that students and teachers maintain their right to free speech while in school.
Freddie & Truus Oversteegen were sisters who joined a Dutch resistance movement in WWII in their teens. They lured, ambushed, and assassinated Nazis and Dutch collaborators. They also blew up a railway line, transported Jewish refugees to new hiding places, and worked in an emergency hospital.
Our history books may like to showcase male figures, but behind every movement is a young girl ready to make a change. It was true then, it’s true now, and future generations of teenage girls will go on to inspire progress, whether they’re credited or not.
