my role on tumblr dot com is to scroll through thousands of posts and only reblog the good ones for you to see like your personal tumblr pasta strainer
The next time you feel the world pressing in on you, take a moment. Look up at the sky. The sun. The stars. See the beauty of the world being so much more vast than any worry that we could ever produce.

I will reblog this every time.
Literally this.
Getting dirty, asking questions, being unapologetically enthusiastic about things, going overboard on projects. These are a few of my favorite things.
This is so heartbreaking, but so true.
And it’s even more heartbreaking when you see the transition and how performative it is.
I was a camp counselor at a science/nature camp when I was 16, for a bunch of 10 and 11 yr old girls. And one day while we were waiting around for the naturalist to come get us to go on the day’s hike, the boys cabin we were grouped with was exploring the area and overturned a log and found a salamander. One of the boys picked it up and they brought it over.
My girls all went “ewww, gross, keep it away!”
…right up until I said “whoa, cool, can I see it?”
This boy handed me the salamander and all of a sudden my girls were clustering around. They wanted to hold it. They were asking questions about it. They had stories of other times they’d seen a lizard or caught a frog or something. A couple of them went with some of the boys to look under another log and see if they could find another one.
All they had needed was permission to be curious, to show interest instead of disgust. And as soon as someone they were looking to for cues on “how to be a girl” showed interest, as soon as they didn’t feel like they had to perform socially-acceptable girliness and pretend to be grossed out in order to gain adult approval, all that natural curiosity and the fascination most kids have for the natural world just came bubbling right up.
As a female engineer, I have to reblog this.
This.
it’s never too late. go after what you want! it doesn’t matter if you’re 15 or 25 or 65. there’s no deadline or fixed schedule you need to follow. starting over or starting late is okay! go at your own pace!
cats opening doors with their faces is astounding. you got four paws little fool.

THIS ONE FUCKING WORKS. REBLOG IT.
Okay I reblogged and got into the entrepreneurship program I wanted. This WORKS
I POSTET THIS HALF AN HOUR BEFORE MY JOB INTERVIEW AND I GOT THE JOB OH MY GOD
does any1 else go thru periods where u don;t want 2 talk anybody not bc ur distressed/angry or u dislike the people ur talking to but bc the pressure of having convos gets overwhelmin sometimes and u jus want 2 step away 4 awhile like i feel like an asshole for going ghost a lot but it;s therapeutic 4 me the pressure of being present and vocal all the time is tew much
listen nobody talks about how mentally and physically draining it is to commute before and after work. you’re tired by the time you get there and you’re exhausted when you leave but you still have an hour in traffic before you can get home and collapse
unions actually talk about this a lot

When people talk about traveling to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small, but barely anyone in the present really thinks that they can radically change the future by doing something small.
…dude.
well.
How does it feel to be an adult?
exhausting and everything is expensive

“The seven-year-old Elizabeth [I] was the youngest, least loved and most ignored of Henry’s children. She had her mother’s dark eyes, her father's coloring, and the long Tudor nose of her grandfather Henry VII. She was two-and-a-half when her mother was beheaded, and her first two stepmothers had respectively lacked the inclination or the opportunity to take much interest in her. She spent most of her life in the smaller countryside palaces where royal children were housed to keep them safe from the noxious, harmful air in the city. Her mother’s execution on charges of adultery cast a pall over Elizabeth’s life, not just because it robbed her of the mother who had showered her with attention and gifts, but also because it left her legitimacy open to question… Despite this [neglect by her father], Elizabeth impressed nearly everyone she met, and even at this early stage in her life observers were quick to notice her self-possession and her intelligence. A year earlier, Sir Thomas Wriothesley had gone to see her and written that when he spoke to her, Elizabeth replied ‘with a great gravity as she had been 40 years old. If she be no worse educated than appears she will be an honor to womanhood.’”

the older i get the more i realize what it meant for lily and james potter to die at 21. when you’re 11 and you’re reading the books, watching the films, 21 feels ancient. it did to me. even the actors they picked looked like they were in their thirties, because actual 21 year olds standing next to harry in the mirror would have been an excruciating sight i think. actual 21 year olds lined up in the photo sirius shows harry would have been horrible to see. they weren’t adults. i look at 21 year olds now and most of them are still teenagers. and i’m so sad because you know harry turns 21 and then 22 and then 28 and 29 and realizes how terribly young his parents were, how brave they were, how exceptional they were, GOD I’M SAD IM GETTING A BEER
