What is Oceankin?
on this blog, oceankin refers to any alterhuman who's habitat is the ocean! this includes aquatic therians who reside in the ocean, aquatic otherkins who reside in the ocean, waterkin, aquatic otherkith who reside in the ocean, etc!
so the reason the blog has been so inactive is because all the mods have been busy
Mod Cetus🦑 will be gone for a while and idk if mod pins🧜♀️ is still on here. now because I can’t add more mods because mod Cetus is the only one with admin it may be a long time until the blog has more posts.
now I may make a spinoff blog for land therians and maybe if the other mods don’t return to this one i will make a replacement.
Hey I’m questioning where I am in the other kin world! I love the ocean and sea animals but I don’t know what I am and even where to start. Any suggestions or tips?

for me, i browsed LOTS of pictures of sea animals and old drawings and stuff. and i mean LOTS
and for my hearttypes, i've always really liked those animals. I don't necessarily identify as those animals but i often find myself wishing i could turn into them or be them.
and of course browsing otherkin tumblr always helps! this place has really helped me tons :3
I don't EXACTLY know what my kintype is but I've categorized it as a seaserpent/river lindworm. During the summer I got to go swimming a lot and watched Ruby Gilmen; Teenage Kraken! My wife is supportive so I got to talk to her about making gear and the fastest way to swim. This year/summer has been difficult but this is a little bit of joy that at least to me is very accessible.
To all the ocean dwellers I just wanna say: You may not find anybody talking about your kintype, you may not be supported by anyone, and you may not be able to do things other otherkin/your kintype could do. But you are a creature of the sea. Your own special self 🌊

For gear: swimming flippers and actual mermaid tails (with monofin inserts) can be the most euphoric thing ever!
For reference a monofin is like flippers but both your feet go into one large flipper designed to look like a merfolk's tail!
Wear something that flows! A sundress with white and blue to mimic how the ocean looks, something with tassles, or even ear your hair so that it flows in the wind :))
Along with this, use saltwater/ocean themed perfumes or incense/candles!

Many kintypes have urges or behaviours that are very socially frowned upon or even illegal, this is not a new or shameful subject!

I am SirenKin, my people ate humans. I am also VampireKin, my people ate humans. These wants to fulfill my (what used to be) natural diet still persists in this lifetime.
Just like CanineKins/Canine Therians who feel they must bite or pee to mark their territory, these needs are taboo.
But I'm here to say that these needs should be honoured in safe, legal and humane ways.
For me, who feels it must feed on humans, I engage in Astral Feeding - where I meditate and engage in feeding in the astral plane, where I can legally and humanely get and consume life-force in the form of a body :)
For others this may look like eating beef tartar (raw beef and egg) to emulate the physical ritual of eating!
For others who feel they must bite this may look like finding a nice, clean stick and chewing on it - or if avaliable buying a chew toy!
I hope soon that these behaviours can be seen as normal or less taboo - prehaps like the practice of nesting or wearing gear!
Becuase: if it doesn't hurt anyone and makes you feel happier/better, then it is perfectly good!

I'm SirenKin too and discovered my kin in a similar way! It feels weird to not just be a regular merfolk right?
But to feel more like yourself: when in the pool, do the dolphin stroke with your legs only! (Like move both your legs in unison to kick, feels like a tail)
Try and buy some fins! Like, flippers! You can get a good quality discreet (like divers gear) ones for about £20 if that's an accessible price for you
You can collect seashells and decorate yourself with seaweed (if comfortable)
Also!! Eat some more fish! If you can: a whole fish that you gotta actually eat around the bones for! Makes you feel like you caught it and like you're eating like you once did :)

So let’s start with the biggest thing and that is: some people just hate us.
Now that can be for a variety of reasons.
example: I know someone who hates alterhumans because she was stalked by one for months.
(More below the cut because this is a big post)
List of common reasons:
Some people hate us because those of us who have past lives go against their religion.
Some people just don’t like people who are different.
Some people think we are mentally ill.
Some people think we are zoos.
Some people think we are furries and because they hate furries they hate us.
Pt.2 keeping yourself safe
So this is extremely important if you are a minor Because most likely you live with a parent/guardian.
So how do you ensure you are safe?
Well it’s not that hard
1. Only tell people you trust. if you want to check if it’s safe to tell someone mention therians in conversations and see how they react.
2. Remember that there are community’s online that you can make friends on if you can’t tell anyone irl about your identity. (Therian guide.net is one)
3. If your parents/guardians are supportive you can find fellow therians on international therian day just draw the therian delta in your hand.
Pt.3 what if I don’t have shifts?
So lets make one thing clear not all therians have shifts a good chunk do but they are not what make you a therian/Otherkin.
Also it’s perfectly fine and quite common not to know you therotype/Kintype right away.
It’s also perfectly fine to be mistaken on your therotype/Kintype for example: I went through a period of thinking I was a crow therian
(I do think I have a winged thero/Kintype but that’s a story for another day)
So pretty much it’s ok to be mistaken infact most alterhumans are at first .
Pt.4 The pros and cons of packs
So I was actually a head mod on hiddenwhispers discord server until I left discord for mental health reasons
So now I am gonna give a overview of my experiences with therian packs
So the first one I joined (foxx_kit on yts one)
There was lots of dark stuff in the heavy vent channel but Everyone was really nice and all in all it was a great experience.
The second one what I helped create
It was good a lot of dark stuff in the vents but still good.
Now for hiddenwhispers one.
So most people were nice and respected me as a mod but we got frequently raided by antis who sent gore and other stuff.
Lots of dark stuff in the vents.
Whisper was really nice and always treated me as a close friend.
So one thing you will notice is lots of them have vents that contain images of sh so that’s a downside.
On the otherhand I made many friends so at the end of the day it’s good unless you look in the vents.

My story:
Personally, my Kins and 'Types being confirmed is reliant on memories and shifts!
So when underwater memories of vaguely glowing limbs (mine) being under me and then further a deep and inky void below, I assumed I was a deep sea jellyfish!
However, no more memories came to me, and no shifts, due to my misguided kinfirmation!
I was able to re-kinsider my kinfirmation of my jellyfish 'type and explore my kin further by analysing my past ocean behaviour and labels that fit me!
That's how I landed on my SirenKin identity! After I took on the label I had more memories come to me and have been able to experence more shifts!

Of course, whatever you take from this little read is valid!
However, I hope you are able to see from this that using a label and then deciding that it doesn't fit later - and taking up a new one is okay!
Even more, if something doesn't feel like it fits, please explore that feeling - You may find more fulfillment!
