shout out to all fish therians/kins, mermaids, sirens, or any other ocean/sea creature related alterhumans living in landlocked states or otherwise don’t have access to pools and places to swim cuz i feel ya 😔
Big fan of the rise of fish posters
My sloppy little kelp dwellers,
keep posting friends. There is a severe lack of sea creature community, and I think we deserve forums and events and rep just as much as any creature. I find it near impossible to think there’s hardly any known groups of sea monsters/creatures in comparison to dragons, fae, vamps, or weres. there’s so much good we can do for eachother and the world (especially with US marine life protections under threat!) just by sharing our experiences and educating (or not, your not obligated to educate because you exist.)
I love you oysters, I love you whales, I love you coral, I love you anglers, I love you river monsters, I love you gar, I love you I love you I love you !
So much love, from a mildly vicious Siren.

okay....ummm.....so how do i only now realize that literally one of the most stable and widely recognized elements of dragon lore is about them being shape-shifters. and concealing their identity. and being secretive and protective of themselves. how did i not put two and two together earlier.....
okay so news flash it makes a lot of sense now that i think about it & i feel like an idiot. it makes even more sense considering that i, as a sea serpent, am insanely connected to water, and literally the FIRST thing that comes to mind about this element is being adaptable and shifting
minus one kin. i am officially just a sea serpent who constantly changes form
oceanith ♡
when the ocean is simply a fact of one's existence or identity. It may feel that, without the ocean, there'd be no you

Coining a term/identity label for non humans: mernymph
Mernymph: An aquatic being with a humanoid shape but fish features. A mix of a merperson and a water nymph. They may have tails, webbed ears and hands, appendage fins, gills, scales and other fish like features. The mix part comes from the fact they have the ability to switch between legs and a tail. Like having a mer form and a nymphic form. They are bound to water, they can walk on land but cannot stay there permanently. Like a nymph, their source of water (lake, river, spring, beach etc) determines their condition. Clean water and a thriving ecosystem means the they are healthy. Polluted water, drying up or the ecosystem failing makes them fall sick and risks their life. As far as I’m concerned, I’ve coined the term mernymph, I’ve not seen anyone else use it. But if there is use before me, then I give credit to them and consider this post information and a flag design in that case. At its core, a mernymph is a being that has features of a merperson and a nymph.
In short, the features of a mernymph are:
Fins/webbing on body.
Gills.
Mix of scales and human skin.
Humanoid bodily shape (arms, legs, head, torso).
The ability to gain a mer-tail in place of legs.
Connection to water. Needs water to survive, typically tied to a particular water source.
Ability to breathe on land and underwater.
Making this term because I’ve been using it for myself, but I’m sure there’s probably others out there with the same mer/nymph mix looking for a term. Intended for non human alters in systems, otherkin, alterhumans and to describe aquatic mythical creatures that fit these features and may not particularly be considered just a mercreature or just a nymph.
