reminds me of this webcomic i found, titled "the girl who slept in for 100 years", and skipping a bunch of things, the girl (living with the modern day family that lives in her house) celebrates christmas by cutting down a tree and hanging live candles in it. in the living room.

naturally, it starts burning, the parents take care of the fire, and the mom is visibly pissed by the situation, scolding her repeatedly. eventually, the girl breaks down crying, and apologizes over and over. the mother eventually just thinks "right, the kid probably already feels terrible over it."

lemme repeat that : "THE KID PROBABLY ALREADY FEELS TERRIBLE OVER IT."

there is no point to rub it in if the kid is visibly feeling bad for what they did. you're only going to create an unsafe environment where they walk on eggshells and feel terrified about the idea of being honest with you. that doesn't mean that you should just forgive and forget : it's important to teach your kids why doing certain things are bad, and give them consequences to their actions, but if you're going to antagonize a kid who already understands their fault, feels remorse over it, and confesses to it, you're doing more harm than good !!!!
