If you put blue and red together it makes purple.
Purple is not referred to as half red half blue though because it is on its own a color.
The same applies to bisexuality.
and some shades are much more blue or much more red, but they’re still called purple

Do you get all the fish from the same store and if so, do you quarantine them in a separate tank (to rule out your tank as the cause)? After dealing with dropsy, many will tear down the tank and disinfect thoroughly before getting new fish.
yup! i quarantine, usually for about a month. the reason why i haven't completely torn down my tank is because i have a fish (and two snails) living in the tank that seem extremely healthy and show no signs of this changing. which is why i find this whole dropsy ordeal to be so weird. this one cory has been alive since march or april of 2013, and is really quite active and spunky. no sign of barbel erosion, fin damage or rot, etc.
I did get all of the guppies from the same Petco (i don't have any good lfs), so it could be just that the particular store had sick fish?
No, my tank is definitely cycled. I cycled it when I first got it. And it is now well over two years old. It’s cycled. I also do test the water parameters (with liquid tests) every time I do water changes. Everything is almost always zero (besides ph of course). I have a heater, and a good filter. I’m not a “novice” fish keeper by any means. And many other fish experts would disagree with you about the corydoras…
I’m just stating the general minimum tank size opinion for fishblr. If you have a long tank it could probably work, but for a school of corydoras and a betta 20 gallons is recommended. It’s your tank of course, I was just saying the added bio load could have been what caused your issues.
I assumed your tank wasn’t cycled because you didn’t mention any parameters. But you say now that your parameters are almost all zero? I’m sorry, but that would mean your tank isn’t cycled. If your tank was cycled you would have a nitrate reading. Do you do the tests before or after the water change?
Just to mention both to you in case you didn’t know and to my followers, dropsy is a symptom of organ failure, not a disease itself, so with so many cases of dropsy in a tank, something must be off. You don’t incidentally have a piece of decor in your tank that could leak nasties in to your water? That could also be a cause.
I test it before a water change. Yes, nitrate is present in normal cycled tanks. But I have a planted tank with medium-high lighting, so that's probably why I have little to no nitrate. In fact some live plant people (not me) add nitrate to their tanks to feed the plants more.
I do have driftwood in the tank, I don't think I've heard of dropsy from driftwood, but it could be! Really the only things I have in my tank are plants, driftwood, and plant gravel... and water xD
oh yeah that sounds real stressful. fish are so sensitive when it comes to that. my boyfriend doesn’t believe me when i told him after seeing a commercial (you know where the fish dies and the guy goes and buys a new one before his daughter gets home and tosses the fish into the seat??). I told him the fish would have probably died from that stress and he just didn’t believe me
I never saw that ad, is it a Petco ad or something? I bet they would do an ad like that, lol.
It very well could be the moving stress, because I move the tank around four times a year (summer break and winter break). The good new is I'm graduating next semester, so I won't have to move the tank so often after that. But I'll try to rule out other things as well!
Currently, I only have one fish (a corydora) and two snails in my ten gallon fish tank. Back in December of last year, my 2nd to last corydora died of swim bladder. Then, in April my betta died of what seemed to be dropsy. A few weeks later I got a bunch of guppies. Within...
I'll try doing more frequent water changes. If I don't do it every week I usually test the parameters and they are always fine. Sometimes ph is slightly low, because the water from my tap is always lower. It could be moving stress, considering I am a college student and have to move my tank back and forth. I dunno.

The first thing you need to do is check your water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) with a liquid test. If you don’t have a kit, you need to buy one right away, and in the mean time do at least 50% water changes at least every other day, to keep your water from essentially becoming poisonous to your fish. I’m guessing your tank isn’t cycled?
On a side note, unless you have pygmy corydoras, 10 gallons isn’t big enough for both a school of corydoras and a betta. If your tank is overstocked, not cycled, and you don’t keep up with your water changes to match your water parameters, this is very well what could have caused your die-off.
I’m sorry if my wording is a bit harsh, it isn’t on purpose, I feel off today @-@

Dropsy Epidemic In Tank
Currently, I only have one fish (a corydora) and two snails in my ten gallon fish tank. Back in December of last year, my 2nd to last corydora died of swim bladder. Then, in April my betta died of what seemed to be dropsy. A few weeks later I got a bunch of guppies. Within a month three of them died, and I assumed I got old or sick guppies. I got three more from the store, and ever since the guppies have been dying off one by one. Two of them had clear signs of dropsy. The last guppy died about two weeks ago.
Is it possible that there is a disease in my tank that is affecting all the fish besides the one corydora, whom has survived it all! (Ironically, the cory's name is Delete. lol.) I want to get more cories so that Delete isn't alone. I would also like to get a betta. However, not if I think there is a chance that they'd catch what ever my tank has. I do water changes at least ever two weeks, if not every week. Any opinions about what is happening to the tank?
