Medieval Love Debate at Longleat

The Belle dame sans mercy in Longleat House Manuscript (MS) 258

This is an online exhibition that guides audiences through the fifteenth-century poem, Belle Dame Sans Mercy, and its printing in William Thynne’s edition of Chaucer’s Workes (1532).

"During the ‘Medieval Love Debate at Longleat’ project, Manuscript 258 was fully digitised, performances of its poetry were filmed, and an online exhibition was created to complement a physical exhibit displayed at Longleat House (April-Jun 2025). The project was a collaboration between Dr Olivia (Liv) Robinson (University of Birmingham) and Longleat’s Librarian, Edwina Penge. It was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council."

The full online exhibit also includes the digitized manuscript and coloring sheets.

have seen a couple tags on that reblog worrying about the viability of getting bottom surgery as a fat person facing medical discrimination & wanted to make sure you've all seen FEDUP's database of usamerican surgeons with higher or no BMI limits on the procedures they perform. the majority perform top surgery but there are also bottom surgeons listed as well as surgeons who perform other gender affirming procedures; if anyone knows of & can add similar resources especially for non-usamerican surgeons please feel free

a couple of people have expressed their confusion, so, for all who need it, here's a quick and easy guide to the monastic prayer times!

matins = nighttime

lauds = early morning

prime = first hour of daylight

terce = third hour

sext = noon

nones = ninth hour

vespers = sunset

secret vespers = in the crypt whenever the clock crows thrice

forbidden vespers = in the forest every full moon

eternal vespers = nobody knows, because none who have attended eternal vespers have returned

compline = end of the day

group meowing = about five o clock daily
