Predictions for the future of Doctor Who
disney backs out
2027 gives us a special that explains whatever the fuck's going on with billie piper. It makes everyone very angry but it ends with us getting a new doctor and the promise of a full new series in 2029!
the 2029 series has less budget and is only six episodes long. The producers try to explain this is actually a Good Thing because they can make a really tight epic story arc that's going to be Doctor Who Like You've Never Seen It Before!
It's followed by another 6 episode series on 2031. These series are generally agreed to be Shit, with a couple of absolutely amazing completely bizarre episodes that will be remembered forever.
The BBC do not cancel Doctor Who. It's just going on a little bit of a hiatus. Don't worry about it.
Wilderness Years 2 Electric Boogaloo begins.
Big Finish gets a big boost in popularity as people go there for new Doctor Who content. They produce more and more adventures with no more plot than, "And we have this Fan Favourite Character back to team up with this other Fan Favourite, and fight this Classic Monster!!" as quality goes steadily downhill. By 2035 they're releasing a new audio every day and using AI write their scripts.
The BBC licences a new series of novels that they don't really care about, which are generally agreed to be some of the greatest Doctor Who stories of all time.
In 2050 or so Doctor Who is brought back as a hard reboot, using a lot of ideas from the 2005 series (the Doctor is the Last of the Time Lords, there's a large focus on the companion's home life). This makes a lot of Doctor Who fans extremely angry but also genuinely refreshes the franchise and makes for an extremely good series. David Tennant makes a guest appearance as the Master.
In the 2062 season finale, there's a surprise appearance from Jodie Whitaker, who comes out in costume and frantically explains to the current Doctor that the Division have Done It Again and erased a whole lot of their past.
This leads into next year's 100 year anniversary special, which retroactively reconises all of original Doctor Who. It's bad.
If I had a nickel for every classic Doctor who villain with a top tier design that RTD2 brought back as giant CGI slop, I’d have two nickels.
a big room full of all the Doctor's friends: begging him to remember he has a daughter and not give up on finding her
Jenny out there somewhere:
DOCTOR WHO | 2.08: THE REALITY WAR + TEXT POSTS
This has got to mean something...
seeing everyone come together and actually agree with each other for once bc the ending was that bad
me trying to explain to people who don’t watch doctor who how absolutely bonkers that finale was even by this show’s standards:
you know what's bizarre? poppy was a real person. i feel like i'm going insane here. like in-universe poppy was a real child with her own life before she was retconned into being belinda's daughter. what the hell
will she be afraid of her own reflection?

ID: Reddit post with title: The longer I think about the Poppy stuff the more it makes me deeply uncomfortable about where RTD's politics have gone
Text:
So let's talk about that finale shall we.
Poppy is the result of Conrad's fake reality, the one that specifically erases LGBT+ people/identities from existence and also views women as belonging at home with children. Now it could be argued this is the result of Conrad's lack of a two-parent household (which is a whole discussion unto itself) but at the end of the day, her "creation" is still born from a world where Fifteen has their sexuality erased and Belinda loses her independence.
So when both The Doctor and Belinda regain their memories of what is reality they aren't horrified, outraged, or in any way upset at being forced into 50s-style heteronormative gender roles but instead want to do everything they can to "protect" this fictional baby they insist is theirs is bad enough. The fact this then goes on to see Belinda spending most of the "battle" sat in a box taking care of the child is worse.
But then we get to the entire final act where reality corrects itself and Poppy disappears as both The Doctor and Belinda are removed of the lingering influence of Conrad's politics. Only no, wait a minute, we get a big speech from Ruby about how The Doctor would always try and save a child (ignoring for some reason that she's imaginary and the result of bigotry at that) which prompts this Doctor to decide to change the fabric of reality itself so that Belinda always had his child, even if it costs him his own life.
And Belinda is okay with this. The same Belinda who brings up her lack of consent about getting a DNA scan is okay with her own history being changed into forced motherhood. Seriously?!
For all the talk of this era being "woke" this finale is one of the more bizarrely Tory "family values" style plot you could write. Conrad becomes a good person because he has a father in the picture. The same-sex attracted Doctor is shown to prefer his "wish" of a child with Belinda so abandons his male love in what appears to be hell, to the point of killing himself to make it so and is clearly disappointed Poppy isn't biologically his. Belinda is shown to be in a more stable and happy situation as a co-parenting mother (with the father still in the picture) living at home with mum and dad compared to the grotty flatshare as the childless independent woman she was before.
"I have been popped out of my timeline because there's a great big time schism on its way, caused by you!"
let's recap our closed loop(s) this season:
The Fifteenth Doctor, upon realising that he has saved the world at the expense of a little girl he vaguely remembers named Poppy, decides to blast a bunch of regeneration energy into the time vortex to shift the world back; this ruptures the time vortex and causes a time schism, despite his prior incarnation trying to warn him of the danger
Missbelindachandrabots arrive at the place where Earth was in the version of events where the Rani destroyed the Earth; they were looking for Belinda; they find the star diploma and bring it back to their world, but they go through a time schism on the way back and end up founding their own civilization
The robots go to get Alan, having been told to by Queen Belinda Chandra and again passing through a time schism and arriving early on Earth
The robots go to get Belinda, having been told to by Alan, pass through another time schism arriving late on Missbelindachandra One
The Doctor, wearing the same pinstripe outfit he changes into in The Reality War (albeit with a nice plaid jumper on when he's on Earth; he takes it off in the TARDIS), is rushing about looking for Belinda, arriving just too late as she's being taken away
The TARDIS follows the Messbelindachandraship but apparently doesn't pass through a time schism and beats Belinda by 6 months, initially arriving in that same pinstripe outfit
On Missbelindachandra One, he claims that he has to be careful of timelines, but that "he was told about [Belinda]" by someone, who told him her name "like it would be important"
Later on, Belinda and the Doctor run into a child Conrad in 2007 and he introduces her with her full name
From Conrad's perspective, the Doctor in a whole new outfit later berates him for being a asshole, and Conrad asks him significantly if he has met Belinda Chandra yet
To close the loop in the version of events where the Rani didn't destroy the Earth, the Doctor chucks the star diploma out into space somewhere
WHY the fuck was he wearing the pinstripe getup when he was looking for Belinda. there is some timeline trickiness going on. the loops are stable, but there is one little hitch...
also on the doctor who note I really hope varada sethu gets more work after this. I really like her as an actress. and it bugs the hell out of me that they got this absolutely luminous woman, with fantastic platonic chemistry with the doctor and a strong Nurse energy that beautifully complements his Doctorness, and tossed her into a half-baked, half-rewritten season full of beats that made NO sense for her character, then lumbered her with a baby and a rewritten memory and lit out for the horizon. fuck you very much i'm sure
As soon as they had to write a human and sea devil romance they changed the design RTD you COWARD let the fish man FUCK!!!!!
