I remember when I was younger, like 7 or 8, and my mom, brother, and I all thought in Stressed Out he was saying “my names blurryface and I don’t care what you think” cause there’s a pause there that we just assumed had the word don’t. Then one day I was like hey what if it’s just a pause and not a word, what if it’s “my names blurryface and I – care what you think” and my mom and brother were like 😮 woahhhh you’re right and I’ve never felt so fucking smart and incredible.

Not bird related, but did you know that Dalmatians are actually black dogs with white spots? They also are commonly featured in books and media as firehouse dogs. This is because melanin is needed in your eyes and ears for them to function properly, meaning if they don’t have black spots over their ears or eyes they’re most likely deaf or blind based on what the white covers, so when the alarms go off in the stations, they won’t have the hearing to be able to freak out about it! Pretty neat :)

Though I have no idea if they typically have black spots over their ears and eyes because of the blindness and/or deafness leading breeders to choose other dogs, or if their bodies are just smart enough when making the dog to prioritize where the melanin go. I’m no genius I just read about it once and thought it was cool lol.

Hello it is my birthday and that means we get to talk about me. I have a dog named Duke. He’s very cute. I love him more than anything else in this world (sorry mom). But because I’ve committed to bird tumblr, I have decided we will talk about what bird Duke would be. Duke characteristics: VERY playful, very protective, stupid as fuck, the pickiest dog ever he gags over peanut butter 🤨, he eats entire toys like the fabric and stuffing and everything, and finally- he’s the cutest thing ever. Now I need to find a bird that matches his personality. I will do research and get back to you on that and just give my personal quick very biased opinion. I think he’s a grackle.

Back to birds

The common GRACKLE!!!! They literally are so pretty like just look at them I don’t even need to prove it.

They are “icterid” birds. Don’t ask me what that means the Wikipedia article only made everything worse.

Their conservation status is listed as “near threatened” on Wikipedia (links below)

Males have a lot more iridescence to their feathers, which is typically around the head, with more of a bronze tone in their feathers below the head. Both pictures above show the very distinct separation.

A flock/group of grackles is called a plague. Suck asf.

I think they’re pretty big for like a common bird but I’m not a bird genius I only just started this. Their wingspan is 14-18 inches.

They are omnivores, typically eating anything from acorns to other small birds. Cannibals 😟

They partake in a thing called “anting” and I find it very hard to think about as I hate ants so you can read about it yourself in the provided articles!

Birds

Another late night tumblr post about birds. This time I will share with you an unranked favorite of mine. (I’ll have to rank my top fave birds at some point but that point is not now) I BRING TO YOU: THE NORTHERN WHITE-FACED OWL! I love these guys because of this really interesting ability of shifting their facial expressions just like a human. Sometimes they look at you with cute little puppy dog eyes and then the next they’re able to kill the 100 people with the stare alone. Theres a video of the shifting that I hopefully will add along with a BUNCH of pictures because I love you guys. I don’t know much about them other than their unique face shit so we’ll learn some fun facts together!

Ok apparently there’s not much about these guys so only basic fun facts:

They’re native and present in Africa “between the Sahara and the equator” -Wikipedia

They’ve got a method of camouflage that includes those special facial expressions to appear less visible to predators. Supposedly they blend in with trees but I’m not sure I’ve seen any tree that looks like… well an owl.

There are many pictures of them fluffing up their feathers like a peacock to strike fear into the hearts of their enemies. Luckily we just get to look at them and go “awwwwww”.

They are not endangered!!! This is quite the difference from our last bird, the kakapo, which is/has been declared nationally critical. Luckily with all of us who adore those big guys the scientist working with the birds can keep them going. Big thanks to all those amazing scientists.

Apparently bird tumblr is where it’s at. That post is still popping off. Didn’t know that birds were so loved over here. I make the most based posts about politics and the one joke post I have about finding your true self and admitting you’re a bird is the one that gets all the likes and reblogs. I suppose I might fold to the pressure and fully pivot to bird tumblr. Not bad I do love birds and in fact my favorite animal is a bird. So it’s fitting I just yk didn’t expect this. Anyways here’s a bird and I love you guys and your weird but inspiring fascination with birds <3

My favorite animal :) kakapo, an endangered species of parrot living on an island in like New Zealand or smth. Why do they get all the cool birds. Btw this guy can’t fly and I love that cause what bird can’t fly??? Is he stupid? Why’d they do that. I don’t know if it’s a he but it’s speaks to me and I just get that vibe. Just look how cute you have no idea how much I love those guys.

Current thing pissing me off: so many of the people telling citizens born in the us to ‘go back to their country’, even if they’ve been here for generations, are the same ones saying ‘yeah Israel’s doing bad things but what are you gonna do make them all go somewhere else? There are people who were born there who didn’t even have a choice in that :(‘ like I don’t think they get it, I DONT CARE. Just like they don’t care about people having to go back to a country they’ve never even been to before I don’t care if they’d have to go find another place to live. It’s not my problem and it wasn’t a problem until they made it one. I don’t care what they have to do I just want it to stop

ANOTHER POLITICAL RANT CAUSE IM ANGRY.

I hate when people say they’re “centrist” because they’ll then go on to only have the same republican values as a republican. Libertarian is just a title to say “im unique and not like those other republicans and magas.” Like let’s be honest here, when was the last time you saw someone with Democratic/liberal values that identified as centrist.

I personally think that it’s from a sense of shame. They understand their republican opinions are not that popular (especially among the women they’re all trying to get) and instead label themselves centrist to seem more appealing. They’re the people who get upset when you label them a republican because they have shitty moral values. If it’s not that then I guess they’re just fucking stupid.
