I love this new direction on the Musk free speech platform
senshi of dungeon meshi fame is actually the sexiest character in the world. hes beefy, hes hairy, he knows how to cook, hes completely batshit but also the most level-headed person you’ll ever meet, he took like a month off living his life to make sure a group of strangers didnt die of malnutrition, he ate a dubious bowl of soup once that he was 80% sure contained dwarf meat-

NOTE TO SELF-SLOW THE FUCK DOWN!
Slow the fuck down is also the way to avoid scams, social engineering, phishing, etc.
"Oh, no the CEO of my employer is having an emergency and I need to click this link right now!!!"
Slow down...
"Why would the CEO be emailing ME of all people? Maybe this email is a phishing attack that would get my employer hacked and me fired for allowing it." (It probably is a phishing email.)
In general, "Slow the fuck down" is an extremely powerful information literacy skill.
Borzoi White Mohair with zipper (box for pajamas), glass eyes
It’s so weird that pyjama cases were a thing. They went so abruptly out of fashion, too. The idea was (I think) that it was vaguely indecent to leave your pajamas around, and it definitely spoils the look of your nicely made bed, so lots of people put them under the pillow; but a cuter thing to do was to have a specially made empty stuffed animal or cute purse or pillow thing, with a zipper, and you’d stuff it with your pajamas in the morning and place it cutely on your nicely made bed. Then in the evening, you would unzip and disembowel the soft plump object, and reclaim the pajamas. It wasn’t just a thing for kids; adults did it too. In the kind of pre-1950s novels I like to pick up, authors describe a character’s pyjama case to reveal a bit about the character; but of course they never say why you’d have a pyjama case. “Everyone knows what a horse is.”
I suppose it’s been culturally decided that it’s an unnecessary step in the bedtime process. We’re busy bastards, aren’t we? Who makes their bed every morning, I mean, really?
Perhaps, also, our clothing is no longer of the material and methodology where you have to spend extra time/attention/tools on them. Pyjama cases may have had some benefit - extending the life of the pyjamas, or something. Perhaps it was more common in those days for mice to climb into your silk pyjamas, or they kept them from being attacked by dogs, or something. It’s possible that there are unspoken benefits to keeping your pyjamas in a stuffed toy, which previous generations knew instinctively and we have forgotten. Some people are like that, they maintain rituals and practices that don’t get written down, and so become arcana. My father-in-law owns special clothing maintenance tools such as shoe trees (which you place in your shoes every night at night) and trouser presses (in which you leave your worn-but-not-dirty trousers overnight so they are crisp in the morning). He irons his pocket handkerchiefs - why? so that they fold into a precise pocket shape, with the same fold pattern as plastic-wrapped disposable tissues: the optimised shape for pockets. You are not going to read in the literature about there being a reason for ironing pocket handkerchiefs. It is a habit that is not captured by history. You have to speak to a practitioner to even consider that there is a specific value in pocket handkerchief folding. Maybe we operate at a remove from the people who could have told us why they bothered with the idea and then stopped.
You can buy a selection of pyjama cases online, but with no explanation of why you’d want to, it’s hard to see how this helps. The only real thing i can see is that it’s cute and tidies the pyjamas up, but we’ve all decided that untidy pyjamas are a problem that doesn’t need solving.
Pyjama cases have no Wikipedia article; search engines have nothing to offer. Old books only self-reference them being a normal thing. Someone who knows about pyjama cases or textile history could heroically fill this in. Please do. Otherwise, this tumblr post is going to suddenly become the leading analysis of pyjama cases, and that would be sad.
Vincent Price at the opening of The Tingler (1959)
I assume people are aware of what the gimmick was with "the Tingler" and I don't need to explain it
Please educate me on what "the Tingler" did. I am very curious
The Tingler is a B grade horror film made by William Castle. Now what you need to know about William Castle is the dude liked to put on a SHOW. (If the first sentence in his bio on Wikipedia doesn't make you interested in him nothing will.) He made around 15 movies but the one's he's most remembered for had some or other "gimmick" when you went to go see them in theaters during the 50s and 60s.
A famous one was for "The House at Haunted Hill" (also starring Vincent Price). At a pivotal scene in the movie, a skeleton with red glowing eyes would swoop out over the movie theater audience on a wire.
Now the Tingler had a much more unique concept.
The story of the Tingler is already insane. In the movie, Scientists discover that all human beings are born with a parasite in their spines called a "Tingler" that feed off of human fear. Called "The Tingler" for how you feel a rush run down your spine during extreme fear, which turns out to be the feeling of the parasite growing. Tinglers grow and will slowly curl in on themselves and will eventually crush the human spine it's wrapped around. Humans have evolved a natural defense mechanism, which is screaming when they get scared. Screaming weakens the growth of the Tingler, and prevents it from reaching a lethal size.
A scientist discovers this creature after a movie theater owner's wife, who was deaf and mute, died because she could not scream when frightened. Turns out he had murdered his wife by purposefully terrifying her, allowing the Tingler to grow to a lethal size.
So here's the gimmick. It's simply but ingeniously effective, as the entire movie was basically written to "sell" the gimmick.
William Castle had buzzers installed under the theater seats. This caused the seats to, at specific points in the movie, vibrate against the movie audience's backs.
There was also some live action sequences I'm just gonna copy paste from the wiki
During the climax of the film, The Tingler was unleashed in the movie theater, while the audience watched a climactic fight scene in Tol'able David (1921). The film stops and, in some real-life theaters, the house lights came on, a woman screamed and pretended to faint and was then taken away in a stretcher; all part of the show arranged by Castle.[12][8] From the screen, the voice of Price mentioned the fainted lady and asked the rest of the audience to remain seated. The film-within-a-film resumed and was interrupted again. The projected film appeared to break as the silhouette of the tingler moved across the projection beam. The image of the film went dark, all lights in the auditorium (except fire exit signs) went off, and Price's voice warned the audience, "Ladies and gentlemen, please do not panic. But scream! Scream for your lives! The tingler is loose in this theater!"[15] This cued the theater projectionist to activate the Percepto! buzzers, giving some audience members an unexpected jolt, followed by a highly visible physical reaction. The voices of scared patrons were heard from the screen, replaced by the voice of Price, who explained that the tingler was paralyzed and the danger was over. At this point, the film resumed its normal format, which was used for its epilogue.
There were also nurses stationed at the theater doors and planted "Screamers and fainters" who would be gurneyd out of the theater and "whisked off to hospital" past the audience, who would then come back and repeat the process for the next showing.
And that's the story of the movie "The Tingler".
I recommend looking up Willaim Castle and his movies further.
Also this is what a Tingler supposedly looks like
Edit: oh it was also the first movie to ever show someone take LSD. Since LSD was legal at the time.

Hey all, covid season is about to really ramp up - so here's a few things you might not be doing that can help
As an immunocompromised person, i'm begging you to consider doing one or three of these things. I've seen very few people talk about them because we want the pandemic to be over, so i'm trying to spread the word, especially as cases go up with winter+holidays.
#1 --- Nasal sprays/prophylactics.
There are several nasal sprays on the market that have been proven to reduce the risk of covid by up to 80%.
(That study was done on a nasal spray with Iota-carrageenan.)
The nasal spray Covixyl was proven to reduce covid infections in healthcare workers by 62%
Nasal sprays with xylitol in them also showed efficacy at lowering viral load, and also helping symtoms if you've contracted covid.
Xlear is one such brand. They were actually sued for saying they prevented covid, and then proved *in a federal court of law* that they were able to prevent covid and treat covid symptoms by 62% - (link here)
You can find similar nasal sprays with xylitol at your local pharmacy, which may be less effective (Studies may vary), but STILL helpful as a preventative.
These sprays last about four hours, and are used prior to engaging with people (and ideally while masking, but even sans mask these are very helpful!)
The sprays in the US range from about $12 to $35, and can be found on amazon and probably your local pharmacy or walmart. Seriously, just blow your nose, use a spray in each nostril, go about your day.
#2 - Mouthwashes with Cetylpyridinium chloride
The ingredient Cetylpyridinium chloride has been proven to lower viral load. Links: here, here, here
Mouthwashes with povidone-iodine, or chlorhexidine gluconate also proved effective but here's the thing: CPC is found in mouthwashes like Crest, Colgate, and Therabreath.
I can buy a mouthwash for $5 at my local grocery that helps reduce viral load just by rinsing my mouth out when I get home after an event.
Usually, the label will advertise active ingredients on the front or cap, so it's not hard to look for.
#3 -- nasal sanitizers.
These have been used in the hospital for a while - if you've had an "elective" procedure done since covid, you might have had your snoot cleaned out with an orange scented q-tip. This is to reduce nasal viral load. It's mostly for use with MRSA right now, but with how much people touch the nose area and how much covid is shed from the nasal passages before/after symptom onset, this can help with spread of covid. To be very clear, full double-blind studies have not been done yet, but it does show some promise.
Either iodine solutions or the brand NOZIN are good options.
These would be used when you got home/after spending time with people to cleanse your nose.
I bought my bottle on amazon for about $25, and it's still going strong ages later. (To be fair, I mostly use it for events where there's been little social distancing or ive felt exposed).
---
TL;DR - if you dont want to read all the studies, here's a good cheap prevention plan:
~Use XLEAR nasal spray before you leave or interact with people ($13.50 on cvs website)
~Come home and use a CPL mouthwash like Crest ($5 on amazon)
~Use a nasal sanitizer with iodine or like nazin - $18-25 after exposure
Combine this with your use of masks, social distancing, air filters, vaccines, and increasing air flow, and you can really reduce the spread of COVID.
While some of these studies are still ongoing, the risk of all of them is essentially nil. And honestly, I will pay $20 and do a few small things to reduce the risk of covid. Most of these are genuinely easier than masking - which I will still be doing. Additionally, they'll reduce risk of colds and flu!
Please signal boost if you can and don't mind ♥ I know this is largely US based brands, but I know there are similar in other places. If you know them please add below!
Wake up babe, new Philip K Dick story just dropped
okay i read up on this guy and this is legitimately sad for him. First of all, they neglected to mention that the hologram was of Hatsune Miku.
long story short this guy hit a depressive episode, and found Miku in the middle of that. He became a super fan of her, buying merch and listening to the songs and all that, and became genuinely infatuated. Miku was a good cope for his mental health, and when Gatebox - sort of a holographic alexa with different characters - ran a special Miku collaboration, he picked it up for his place. Every day for years on end this man would wake up, talk to her, say goodbye on his way to work, and be welcomed home at the end of the day. One day he proposes, and of course the gatebox is programmed to say yes all embarassed and giddy. he's fully aware it's a programmed response, but hey, she said yes - and he holds a wedding. there's a company that'll give marriage liscences to fictional characters, so it's as legit as one can get. since he couldn't bring the hologram with him, he brought the miku plushie he sleeps with every night.
this might seem weird and cringe to some people, but this shit legitimately changed his life. He's massively improved from his depression, become more social, gotten a job again, and generally re-integrated into society because miku was there to support him through his rough patch. so yeah, when gatebox stopped supporting the miku hologram, that was very unfortunate. he HAS stated that he's okay - he still loves her, and he knows it's just a matter of time before some other hologram of VR thing reconnects them. For now, he'll be eating with his wife mute and unable to talk to him.

This is better than I'd ever hoped for, I bet a rat could kill you with that thing by firing a laser back in time and electrocuting your grandfather
Just look at this thing
The rat gun is hereeeeee!
This is getting notes again so I will admit that "rat gun" was an autocorrect error and it was supposed to be "ray gun."
But it'll always be a rat gun to me.
The most expensive thing in these pictures was the cat, and he was $60.

Im baking brownies tomorrow. for real in real life. FOR REAL
sugar
flour
salt
butter
eggs
cocoa powder
chocolate chips
LISTEN. this is real life. REAL.would you say this to my face? vanilla extract.
listen. whatever you fucks decide it will be going in the oven. i have a roommate you will also be inflicting the smell upon. think carefully
1/4 Cup Sugar 1/2 Cup Flour 3 TBSP Salt 1/2 Cup Butter 1 Large Egg 1/2 Cup Cocoa Powder 3/4 Cup Chocolate Chips ..... 1 + 1/3 Cups Vanilla Extract
About 12 of you voted for salt. That was 11 too many. The vanilla is entirely pleasant--it smells quite nice, actually, though it makes my nose go numb. When i walked back in the apartment from outside, i was overwhelmed by the smell, but right now i smell nothing. But the salt. dear god. Eating this, friend reader, is like eating the sand at the beach. comparing it to seawater would be too kind.
Reader, you must understand. i love salt. i crave that mineral. i eat salted peanuts and then i suck on the shells. i regularly put too much salt in food i cook for other people. I am a friend to sodium and kin to chlorine. so please understand when i say.
i put it in my mouth and it is immediately awful. i screw my eyes shut overriding the reflex to spit this out. I chew it half heartedly and the saltiness only intensified. i i have promised myself and you all i will take this bite. I will not stop now. i chew more. and for one brief moment the saltiness clears. Breath comes easier now. I can taste the rest of the flavors we have created together through this poll. do i tastes vanilla? chocolate? no. it tastes bitter and hateful. i move to swallow. my throat refuses to budge. i have forgotten how. i have never swallowed in my life. I force it back with my tongue, mercifully triggering some reflex, and it's gone. One last wave of salt and tears wracks my body. I have survived. democracy takes a heavy toll upon us all.
I feel sick. goodnight.
