Genuinely tired of the culture in D&D spaces that the DM is a whiny crybaby if they ever complain about how their players treat them and their game plans. So many D&D spaces act like the DM is required to go along with blatant disrespect or else they're a "bad DM" who "can't take a joke" and "just wants to railroad."
The DM is another player, you ungrateful asswipes, and your goal shouldn't be to alienate them until they don't want to play anymore. Stop being dickheads to DMs and then wondering why nobody ever wants to DM. Stop making it a thankless job and maybe more people will want to do it.
"Ugh, our DM got mad that we ignored all the quest-giver NPCs and burnt down the starting tavern, forcing them to on-the-spot improvise an entirely different campaign than the one they planned. What a railroader. Wait, why is our DM cancelling the game? How can they be burnt out? What a shitty crybaby! It's about the players having fun, how dare they try to dictate our playstyle?!"
For those of you saying that session 0's fix this: they don't. This is about player behavior over time. I'm lucky to have players that are pretty good about respecting the time I put in, but that hasn't always been the case. Over time, there are players that will take advantage of flexible GM's. Also, this whole "just do a session 0" again blames bad player behavior on a GM.
My players routinely do things I don't expect, sometimes DRASTICALLY changing the way things go. (I'm looking at you, Tuesday game, who made the decision to ally with the necromancer for a bit of regicide.) But they still ENGAGE WITH THE ARC, just not in the way I expected. Even then, if they did that same thing a whole lot, I would ALSO be very frustrated with doing a whole lot of prep and then having to scrap it.
This specific post is about player behavior over time. A session zero helps establish early expectations but over long periods of time their efficacy wanes.
i feel very stongly that elizabeth 100% would have sworn darcy to eternal secrecy about the fact that he had already proposed once unsuccessfully when she accepted, solely bc you just KNOW mr collins' smug ass would be like, "oh ho ho! huh! so apparently it IS the usual with young ladies to reject the addresses of the man whom they secretly mean to accept when he applies for their favor! hm! interesting!" and then she would be honor-bound to leap over lady catherine's dining table and strangle him
Mystra showed him the secrets beneath the veils. The gossamer veils first, draped across the Weave. The delicate veils next, draped across her body. 'Chosen One' she whispered, as she slipped them off completely.
poor gale :'(
It's that time of year again, you naughty number-loving nerds.
Whether you chose violence or call it an accident, these NPCs found their demise in your playthroughs.
Not sure what Volo did to you all to deserve this.
More non-Dark Urge players also managed to murder Alfira than Dark Urge players. Spawn of Bhaal or not, maybe it’s time to stop pointing fingers.
Some of you faced the Absolute with the most powerful weapons, others decided to bring a charcuterie board to a fight with a giant brain.
Speaking of weapons, you’ve been very skilled at finding the rarer ones in the game. Shout out to the folk who willingly wielded the rusty Poo-Scraper in Act 3.
For some of you, the strategy has been getting the entire party pissed before entering combat. Bottoms up for Drunken Master Monks, we suspect you are partially to blame for these.
Kinda weird, but not judging.
your 'jerking it to the smell of isopropyl alcohol' post has me remembering how i used to be so ashamed of having any sexual desires that i only allowed myself to jack off to the mental image of an arial drone shot of a pine forest
transcendentalism
This was July’s Gale of the month in my Patreon 🌝 now it’s (FULLY uncensored and) available in blsky
Being able to draw older people as attractive without reducing or erasing the visual signs of aging, and in fact showing that they're attractive because of those signs, is an artistic skill that should be valued so much more. Honestly, it should earn you an immediate fortune because holy fuck is it a rare commodity. There are so many artists who seem to think attractiveness and aging exist in opposition to each other, so they smooth every wrinkle, erase every crease, and de-age the character until they're basically thirty with silver hair. But when an artist can look at crow's feet, smile lines, weathered skin, deep-set wrinkles, and all the little traces of a life well lived and say, "No, that's what makes them beautiful," that's a level of artistic observation and care I wish we celebrated more often.
