Repentence and being called out of sickness
               Main scripture: Luke 5:27-32 ESV
Intro: Sin is the greatest sickness that exists everywhere in our universe. It is the slow moving corruption in every human being. It is the cause of all hate, fear, killing and sickness in the world. It is the curse we all live with. The only solution to the problem of sin is Christ. Christ requires a total submission to his will, his teaching and turning away from our own selfish natural natures. Only when a sick person sees how sick they are will they seek someone to cure them of that sickness. Only honest Sinners (sick people) in need of being saved from Godâs wrath and the sickness of sin will be humble enough to validate the truth of their condition by seeking a cure.

Jesus Calls Levi
27 After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth. And he said to him, âFollow me.â 28 And leaving everything, he rose and followed him.
29 And Levi made him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them. 30 And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, âWhy do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?â 31 And Jesus answered them, âThose who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.â
Mark 10:46-52 ESV
Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus
46 And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, âJesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!â 48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, âSon of David, have mercy on me!â 49 And Jesus stopped and said, âCall him.â And they called the blind man, saying to him, âTake heart. Get up; he is calling you.â 50 And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus said to him,âWhat do you want me to do for you?â And the blind man said to him,âRabbi, let me recover my sight.â 52 And Jesus said to him, âGo your way; your faith has made you well.â And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.

The Parable of the Prodigal Son ESV
11 And he (Jesus) said, âThere was a man who had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, âFather, give me the share of property that is coming to me.â And he divided his property between them. 13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living.14 And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to[a] one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. 16 And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything.
17 âBut when he came to himself, he said, âHow many of my fatherâs hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, âFather,I have sinned against heaven and before you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.ââ 20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, âFather, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.â[b]22 But the father said to his servants,[c] âBring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. 23 And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.â And they began to celebrate.
25 âNow his older son was in the field, and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 And he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said to him, âYour brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and sound.â 28 But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him, 29 but he answered his father, âLook, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!â 31 And he said to him, âSon, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. 32 It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.ââ
Main themes:
1. Sin is sickness, corruption, disobedience, death
2. Cure - calling out to Jesus - begging for mercy from Jesus.
3. Living in a way that says we are turning away from living for ourselves.
Conclusion:Â We live in a universe of sin. We live in a world of sin. We live in bodies of sin. We need a solution to that sin. The solution is Christ the sinless one. The one who represents Godâs continued virtues and goodness. It is only when we see ourselves for what we are that we can come to realize what we need a cure for the conditions we are natural born in to.Â
âRepentance means you realize youâre guilty; a vile sinner in the presence of God. That you deserve the wrath and punishment of God, that youâre hell bound. It means that you begin to realize that this thing called sin is in you, and you long to get rid of it, and you turn your back on it in every shape and form. You renounce the world whatever the cost, the world is in its mind and outlook as well as its practice, and you deny yourself and take up the cross and go after Christ.Your nearest and dearest in the whole world may call you a fool or say you have religious mania. You may have to suffer financially, but it makes no difference; that is repentance.â- D Martyn Lloyd Jones Out of the Depths: Restoring Fellowship with God
