Gonna print this out and post it on my wall as a reminder that my mental illness WILL get better and my comfort character IS helping
Update, one year later: today I started a new prescription medication after being diagnosed last week with a rare sleep disorder (idiopathic hypersomnia) and I feel awake (not metaphorically, literally, I was so sleepy) for the first time in years.
Anyone else relating to my struggles, feeling like you are getting nowhere in your mental health treatment - please consider if your mental illness is distracting doctors from an underlying physical condition. Get a second and third opinion. See doctors who specialize in different things - a psychiatrist will overattribute symptoms to psychology, and so on. Even ruling things out is still progress towards getting better.
Doctors, who are vulnerable to the same vices as all humans, are often too prideful to admit they don’t know enough to accurately assess you. They will tell you that you are beyond hope before they will consider that they have personally failed you.
If someone tells you they have done everything they can to help you, accept that: go to somebody else.
As long as you are alive, you have a fighting chance.
