If your goal is to love being yourself, then your focus is directed outward towards life, on living and making decisions based on what brings you pleasure and fulfillment.

I need all black women to understand that there are more options for them besides exhausting yourself, begging for power from others, caping for the whole world, or enabling someone else's victim mentality.

Misogynoir is real. Stop asking fruitless questions, crying about "Why? Why? Why?" Understand it. Understand how it moves, how it operates, how it changes & what shape it takes on any given day. Then learn how to safely (but efficiently) cut out & cut off any interaction it brings about. Learn how to protect yourself - physically, socially, emotionally. Learn how to create a social group that protects you (lawyer bffs, black doctors, friends at the precinct/bf knows the chief of police lmao etc etc). Put yourself in positions to protect other black women. Kill the idea that the only way to help black women as a group is to fight or beg!! Kill it with fire!! You have options. You have people in your corner. You have power. Use it wisely💖

One of the biggest issues of the divest community is that they put all their eggs in one basket-non-black men. Divestment is about putting yourselves first, establishing relationships that are best for you financially, emotionally and romantically. The best for you may be a black man or it may be an Asian man. But relying on non-black men puts black women in a vulnerable position that we don’t need to be in.

In activism I wish black women didn’t have to surrender their identities and experiences in favour to appease others. Black men wanting black women to be black before they are women or white women wanting black women to be women before they’re black. In the West, we are just black women, we can’t separate the two, if you can’t empathise with our very unique experience of womanhood entwined with blackness then don’t speak on us, period.
