People see rep as nothing more than something “badass” and while she did use the name-calling as the background for the era…it truly was such a heartbreaking time to be a fan. Watching her not be believed and the whole world trying to discredit her was horrible. Watching “fans” turn their backs on her was horrible. Seeing footage of “fuck taylor swift” at Kanye’s show was horrible. Trying to even begin to imagine how she felt was horrible. Seeing her very tentatively come back, I was so proud of her, but I know all of us could see that reservation in her. The way it dismantled her is really scary to look back on and I’m just so grateful that through that time, our bond with her stayed strong. Rep is a “cool aesthetic” for some people, but for us it feels like a celebration of sitting with Taylor in the trenches and watching her come out victorious.

I don’t even know how to be excited about anything about Taylor right now. We celebrate her and they dehumanize her.

People will treat you how you allow them to. We have seen Taylor bite back in interviews in the past when she wasnt quite mega global superstar levels yet and I’ve always loved it—GaGa is another one who stands for zero bullshittery from men, she will instantly tell them they are being stupid—but Taylor now seems like she wants to remain in the untroublesome pretty nice white woman category which makes me endlessly sad. HER POWER is almost immeasurable, and yet she’s diminishing herself yet again for what?? Putting her back into the fucking box and she’s complicit. True freedom comes from not caring if they like you or not

You bring up an excellent point. In theory, Taylor should be at her most powerful right now. She COULD be at her most powerful right now.

She sells out stadiums around the world. She circumvented movie studios and rewrote the system for film releases. She is on her way to billionaire status. She has never been more loved.

Taylor is at the top of her game—But instead of using her power to create positive change in the world or even to demand the respect she so clearly deserves, it seems that she spends most of her time living in fear of losing that power.

So she doesn’t use it at all.

You are only as strong as you allow yourself to be. All the money, fame, and glory will not make her a strong woman if she repeatedly chooses to align herself with people and organizations that harm the marginalized and disrespect her own integrity and humanity.

I say this with much love for Taylor, and with the hope that she might one day truly find her voice again.

y’all remember that moment when you realized taylor’s social media had been completely wiped out. on the same day as an eclipse. and then she posted a video of a glitchy snake on the same day as an eclipse. like you had to be there. you will not fully understand the magnitude of rep unless you were there. you HAD to experience that in real time

i fear i wont articulate this correctly but at the end of the video as they are running away from the building filled with speak now memorabilia being destroyed so she can escape, taylor stops and looks back. and that little moment is so complex and heartbreaking to me because its like. she was trapped in there counting the days on the wall for when she'd be free. but its so clear on her face when she turns back that she didn't want to have to destroy all of the things she'd done just to break free from being locked away, to own her work again. she took her speak now versions painting (her rerecording) and ran. but she still looks back on this building filled with the other pieces she couldn't bring with and stops for a second as if in disbelief, awe, heartache even that this what it came to in order to survive. it shows on her face so clearly. and the rest of the crew yells for her that they have to leave (that its time to go if you will) and she bolts. but ! that pause and all it entails! it hurts. the rerecordings are a great thing in the sense that she gets to own her work but its so painful it happened This way
