There's this video of nuns talking about their favourite things to do outside of nun activities and one of them says "ultimate frisbee" and the other one goes "and sister you are so good at that." Honestly, Levitical cleanliness laws should be read by both men and women (not that they necessarily apply today) just because frankly, men were affected more than culture seems to realize, but also, the laws for menstruating women seem more protective than constraining to me. You know how nice it might be to have people respect your personal space for a whole week? Not to be ostracized, no, but there's a level of peace one might find.

But it also makes you appreciate Jesus healing the woman with bleeding so much more. In the ancient Hebrew world, a woman bleeding would be unclean for every day of blood and up to seven days after (on the eighth of no bleeding she'd be fine to go to the priest for cleansing) and everything she touched would also be unclean.

And yet when she touches Jesus's robe, he makes HER clean!! She is no longer separated from her people, her community, or her house of worship. And that's kind of revolutionary, because entering the Holy Tent while unclean could cause you to die (God is separate from uncleanliness, which cannot exist in his presence) AND YET

God himself comes in the form of the incarnate Word, Jesus of Nazareth, and cleanliness flees from the woman who reaches out in faith and hope.

Maybe we should reach out more, too.

There is nothing that tells more of Christ than to see a Christian rejoicing and cheerful in the humdrum and routine of commonplace work. He or she is like the sailors who stand on the dock loading their vessel and singing as they swing their loads. The praiseful Christian is keeping time in spirit with the footsteps and movements of labor and duty. No one has a sweeter or higher ministry for Christ than men and women at their regular occupations who can carry the light of heaven in their faces all day long.

My cousin has breast cancer. She’s had a double hysterectomy, and they had to go back in to get some that they missed. Now she has to do four rounds of chemo. I’m in tears right now. Prayers are appreciated

UPDATE: BABY WAS BORN!!! AND BOTH ARE DOING GREAT!!! She was born right at the start St. Joseph the Worker day! I invite you all to praise God with me. THANK YOU JESUS!!! GLORY TO GOD!!!!
