I love how every century or so the entire field of physics collapses on itself because of a few discoveries that go against everything currently known and then we just kinda have to wait a little while until it gets back on its feet
A chemist from the 1910s could pick up a modern chemistry textbook and understand quite a bit of it. Theyâd have lots of missing gaps but they could probably understand a decent amount. A physicist from the 1910s could pick up a modern physics textbook and not understand jack shit of it
A chemist from the 1910s in modern times: Woah! You guys discovered quite a few more elements of the periodic table! Cool!
A physicist from the 1910s in modern times: what the fuck is a particle accelerator
I mean to be fair a particle accelerator seems somewhat self-explanatory so long as you know what particles are
Yeah but the things that happen when you accelerate them continue to surprise
I would like to add neutrinos to this list of things people would find mind boggling in ~1910⌠Pauli, who postulated the neutrino (in 1930) actually said in a letter âI have done a terrible thing, I have postulated a particle that cannot be detectedâ
People who grew up in cities always be like âugh we never had any good field trips đ they were always somewhere boring like the museum đâ
BUDDY let me tell you. As someone who grew up in the middle of nowhere, every trip we went on was at LEAST an hour away. And you know where we went?? You know where they took a bus load of 3rd graders?? Dairy farms. They fucking taught us how to milk cows. In fact, since most if not all of us HAD cows or goats for milk, they first asked if anyone could give a demonstration.
Your field trips were boring?? You looked at statues like Percy Jackson??? We went to farms. ONLY farms. AND WE WORKED đđ we also did go to one museum. Which museum, you ask?? The fucking AGRICULTURE MUSEUM!!!
(These are specifically the field trips I went on with my entire class in elementary. I went on a few good ones in my academic/gifted classes to space centers and stuff)
If you come across anyone who starts off with "Scientists don't want you to know..." you need to understand that they're lying. They're completely full of shit and working a grift.
Because they've never met or spoke with a scientist.
Scientists WANT YOU TO KNOW. Scientists want you to know SO MUCH. Scientists would be THRILLED to teach you EVERYTHING they know in EXPLICIT DETAIL. Scientists LOVE to share information and their findings and their theories. They don't want to hide anything, ever. They are SO HAPPY to share.
Might I add:
The most evil, vile girl you know the moment it turns senior year: I LOVE psychology âşď¸ all Iâve ever wanted is to help people đ¤ I think I have finally found my calling đ
When youâre a first generation graduate but it doesnât count because your sister graduated before you :(
Just need it to be known that my need for academic validation does not stem from arrogance but rather expectation. I donât get an adrenaline rush when I get a good grade back I think âokay moving onâ and go on about my life as if nothing happened.
But the secondâthe SECONDâI get below and A?? My entire life was meaningless and my existence was just a single insignificant blip within the frame of the universe and everyone I ever know will never remember nor forget me
