In this universe alteration, Jiang Yanli is the sole survivor of the Yunmeng Trio.

MDZS has a lot of background sexism politics that's so interesting. The internal lives of women are load-bearing for the plot, and mean incredibly little to most of the narrative. But I want to read it! I want to read about Jiang Yanli in Lanling Jin, navigating a relationship with Jin Guangshan of all people.

For that I am super grateful for this fic because it is beautifully written. There's no... girlbossification, if you will? Jiang Yanli is as we see her in the story, quiet and soft spoken and gentle. And she is also pursuing demonic culivation, because there's nobody left to save her.

A fic told entirely through text messages, about Jason and Tim getting in contact and then. Ahem. Getting in contact.

The character voices are very fun, and when an alternative formatting fic works, it really works. I like that typing quirks (and text to speech) actually play into how things get written down - it makes the 'speakers' feel very distinct.

Xie Lian fails to ascend again. Hua Cheng doesn't find him until the modern era.

I really like this fic but it's a difficult read for me for a few reasons. One of which is the most interesting thing about it - how much of the heavens is even left in the modern era? It's a slow paced, grief-heavy story. Very tender.

Every time an author reassures readers that the smut is skippable I sigh a disappointed sigh. This is not a reassurance. Why would anybody who likes smut want to read smut that was only included as an afterthought and has no impact on the narrative? Insulting. Just don't write it at all if you're not going to make it matter.

Written while the Jester-Fjord-Yasha kidnapping arc was ongoing, this is a little glimpse into the campaign that could have been. There are ships tagged, but nothing in the actual text, hence the genfic rating here.

I like story. It's not the direction the campaign ended up taking, but oh the possibilities... Molly and the Assholes could have caused so much damage.
