Now you understand why American kid’s feel like there’s no point to school. If you have a 100 question text, and get 79 of them correct, that’s a C. That mean’s your Average Intelligence on this particular subject. And it get’s even worse when you have only like… a 10 question quiz. If you get two wrong? that’s a B. 80 fucking %. Now tell me again why American school’s are easier?

#is that true? Yep I was shocked when I heard this in a different post but a Google search pulls up a ton of sites backing this up. Shit son I woulda passed College Algebra with an A in the UK. And I spent the end of the semester in perpetual fear that I would fail and have to retake the class.

And basically as an American you’re expected to get 80 or higher. Technically 70s are considered ‘average’ but there is such a level of pressure to get a B or higher, that Cs have become equal to Ds. Basically anything under 60 you might as well gotten a 0, and anything between 60-80 is considered practically failing. So basically schools have to be designed to make sure majority of students are getting 80s or higher on specific topics, which means you’re spending all your time going over a few choice facts a billion times and there is very little room to teach anything else. Which explains why American schools are of such low quality. The insane demand on the students ends up wrecking their education. Not only do you not have time to teach them anything, but they end up hating learning. Even outside of school your life is dedicated to memorizing these few dumb facts because your homework ends up taking hours of your time. A teacher from one subject says they expect you to spend 2 hours every night on their homework. And if you’re studying 5 subjects and they all demand that 2 hours? Good fucking luck, because if you don’t have straight all 80s or higher you’re not getting into a good college and college degrees have somehow become the minimum requirement for getting jobs.

If I got a C on my report card, I was grounded until the next one. I lost count of the times I’d wake up at five in the morning to take the early bus to go in for zero hour before school actually started for the day

Physics

I will say it. Physics is hard as hell.

There’s all the formula memorization of course but also the perpetual desperate attempts to not only rectify but to derive seemingly made up formulas to problems that do not seem to be feasible for people without calculators in their minds.

It’s forces and vectors and sines and cosines and math above all else. I’ll say it again: it’s hell.

Yet, there is still an elegance to it. An intuitiveness and understanding that is enthralling to individuals predisposed or determined to make sense out of what else is stuff from the back side of a bull.

Unscrambling all the variables and numbers and operations leads to a knowledge of the world that is wholly unobtainable by participating in other disciplines.

Yes, physics is hard as hell, but one can either be reborn from the fire or burned by it.

If you work in a movie theater and you do this I have no respect for you.

My younger brother is Type 1 Diabetic.

When we go to a movie theater, we always get him diet soda. If he were to get regular when we asked for diet, we would not give him the insulin he would need for it. If that happens, his blood sugar level could go so high he could go into a coma, go blind, or even die.

If somebody gave him regular soda instead of diet without telling us, that person could be responsible for a nine-year-old being killed or blinded.

Just thinking about that makes me so angry. I get scared every time we take him to a movie in case the people working there saw this picture and decide to do the same thing.

in turn, in the 70s, when my mum was young, my grandma would complain about her wearing pants and having a wild wavy unstyled mountain of hair

my grandma, in her day, got complaints from older local women about her skirts being too short (aka knee length)

hell, women born in 1880 or earlier would complain about younger women in the 1920s dressing too revealingly

like you’d think we would have learned to break the cycle and stop shaming younger generations of women for their appearance at this point

Why do all of you teenagers whine endlessly about how this personified monster that is Society? You speak as if Society is some animate entity, as if it has any life, any power, any sentience than that which humans give it. Society is not some monster lurking in the shadows, ensnaring and breeding contempt for whatever nonsense mainstream media contorts from truth. If you say that Society is a monster, then you call humanity a monster. There is no difference between this “horribly unfair” entity you like to point your fingers at than there is the person to whom the fingers are attached! They are one and the same! I believe it is said that we are to, ‘Be the change we want to see in the world.’ So do it. Be change. Set a positive example for how the world should work, not as some purported external force makes it. The next time you think of something lurking in the shadows, perhaps you might think of society, or perhaps humanity. Fear not, they are one and the same.
