A classic short story by Isaac Asimov.
bringing a sort of "slavery is still alive and well in US prisons" vibe to the office Juneteenth post that my higher ups don't really like
I wonder how it feels to be a therapist or psychiatrist in 2026 and watch the despair of young patients and realize itâs not attributed to mental illness but a rational response to the state of the capitalist hellscape world we live in
Level 1: Asylums are scary because there's crazy people there.
Level 2: We shouldn't treat mental health facilities as objects of horror because it stigmatises mental illness.
Level 3: Asylums are scary because there's psychiatrists there.
Level 4: Asylum's are scary because they're dehumanizing cages that deny people any autonomy even over their own mind and their potential for neglect and other abuses is limitless.
Fun how the bystander effect was coined to cover up how cops are bigoted cowards who let a queer person die and stockholm syndrome was coined to cover that the cops handled a hostage situation so badly the hostages trusted their captors more than the cops.
Biggest fuck-up ever is that people have to pay to become doctors
Like unironically we should be subsidising at least 50% of their educations. What do you mean we have a shortage of doctors we should have surplus. What do you mean theyâre being overworked they should be treated like royalty, they can fix human bodies
I donât care if some of them are only doing it for the money. I donât care if all of them are only doing it for the money. Intentions donât matter to the stitches in my nanaâs leg or the ten billion other lifesaving treatments we all get at a detriment to their finances and mental wellbeing. Entire cities are kept alive by just a couple thousand of them what are we DOINGGGGG
Absolutely. When I wrote this post I lumped nurses in with doctors in my head, but I should have added them in too. Also to everyone saying teachers, too: yes.
good heavens.
functionally suicidal character saying âI would die for youâ to their significant other and its like. I get the sentiment, honey, but if a hot dog vendor told me heâd sell hot dogs for me, I wouldnât feel very moved now would I
Now a functionally suicidal character saying âI will live for youâ. Now thatâs a dynamic I can sink my teeth into.
Kinda wild how most people generally recognize that the "too sick to go to school, too sick to watch tv/play games" mindset our parents had was bullshit but still impose essentially the exact same rules on disabled adults and scrutinize them for enjoying low-energy hobbies while being too fatigued or in pain to work a full time job (or any job at all)

itâs an emoticon
We owe it all to them.
