Letting go is a process. It doesn’t happen all at once. Letting go is about acceptance, it’s about knowing that some love you can’t hold on to forever.
It happens in steps. You don’t want to let go, but you know you have to, it’s time. You haven’t wasted your time on this person, it’s been fun loving them, you got to enjoy their presence, all of your good memories with them won’t be forgotten, just being with them meant so much to you, but now it’s time to take a step back. Distance yourself, and yes, it’s going to hurt like hell, that’s inevitable, but it’s also okay, and you’re going to overcome it.
Allow yourself to realize that you can be happy without them. Know that if you aren’t going to love them anymore, maybe focus on learning to love yourself. Learn to love the world around you, the people you meet, the cities, the trees, the color of the sky during a sunset, whatever makes you smile, he isn’t the only thing you’ll ever love.
One of the worst parts of letting go is accepting that love is gone, or maybe it was never there at all. Maybe they were the greatest person you’ve ever met, well, maybe that is true right now, but you’re still so young. You have so many more people that are going to come in and out of your life, and eventually someone is going to come around, and they are going to do the one thing that everyone else didn’t do, they are going to stay.
You’re going to have to let go eventually, and it’s going to hurt, but once you do, you’re going to be free.
