@thedeadliestpants
people love extolling the virtues of ball-and-socket joints and how it makes us more advanced and all that but I don't see any fucking octopuses in slings now do I. Bones are overrated and I want a refund.
how dare you lay this curse upon my home
you don't frighten me
Everyone in the notes saying "this is a 10k post to me" "posts that have 100k energy" "posts that are 30k to me" or whatever - alright, fine! Put the fuckin' work in then! You'd better have this queue'd up every day for the next six months! You'd better have all your friends queue'ing it up too!
You want me to suffer?? You want to treat me like my own goddamn bones do??? MAKE AN EFFORT
Several versions
I HAD WATER.
I know I'm over simplifying here
But
I want to give a big fuck you to everyone who thought it would be a great idea to not vote or vote third party in 2016 and are now crying about Roe and gun laws and all of the other completely regressive shit that is going on right now.
Is this liberal enough for you? Does this align with your principles? Do you think her emails were that important now?
Are the dems perfect? Hell no! Far fucking from it. But you can't get perfect. The two party system will never get there. And that's our reality. But would I rather have a government I'm not happy with or a government that takes away my bodily autonomy and makes me fear public spaces? Would I rather extremists be emboldened because they now have been given a voice or can I deal with some shit I don't like? FFS they were handing out 'how to respond to an active shooter ' pamphlets in a hospital this week.
But tell me again how they don't do enough. And they're too moderate. And they're in corporate pockets (newsflash: that's all politicians). Yes they are all those things and we shouldn't just accept them. Work to change THAT next time. Protest THAT.
Because the alternative has set us back in time.
And just so everyone is clear: if you voted in 2016, OBV I am not talking about you.
USA Cultural Regions Map
This is super cool
For non-Americans: this is actually accurate and reflects how Americans understand ourselves and regional identities. These arenât official labels, but theyâre not totally made up either.
Further proof that Central Jersey does not exist as its own culture. Youâre from SJ, Burlington people. Suck it up.
The fact that I immediately zoomed in on NJ and went >:O proves that you are correct and I ought to suck it up
Still gonna fight people who think weâre New York tho
The west coast is pretty wrong.
âCascadiaâ isnât a thing. Iâve not heard anyone in either state use that term before. âPNWâ or Pacific Northwest, definitely. Cascadia, no.
SoCal going clear up to Monterey and Salinas is super funny. NO ONE in that area considers themselves to be in SoCal. You really canât call it SoCal north of San Louis Obispo.
The Central Valley definitely doesnât extend to the Eastern border, culturally or topographically. Those are the Sierra Nevadas, a really amazing mountain range. The Central Valley is flat as a fucking pancake and the dullest drive possible West of the Rockies, and is farm country. Those mountains are full of ski resorts and national parks. Aside from voting red because fuck the Bay Area and SoCal theyâre really different.
Also Las Vegas is just East California, there I said it.
Cascadia has itâs own flag and an entire session movement with itâs own ânational anthemâ?
It is DEFINITELY a thing in certain circles.
Itâs just that the U.S. portion of Cascadia is pretty small compared to the amount of the âcascadia regionâ thatâs in Canada.
But, regardless of all that, there is a very distinct cultural difference based on which side of the cascades mountains someone lives.
Itâs not unreasonable IMO to name the âwest sideâ of the mountain range as cascadia, simply as a term to denote a specific cultural region.
Itâs not like anyone really uses âcolumbia basin plateauâ as a personal identifier. They say the name of their town, or that they live in central/eastern/whatever part of the state.
That area needed to be given a name for the map, and Cascadia is a term that has been used to describe specifically that region before.
You hit the nail on the head in the first bit thereââcertain circlesâ and âmostly Canadaâ. As people have said in the tags, Cascadia isnât really a cultural region Americans would identify for that area. Pacific Northwest is.
I donât know much about the delineations of âout westâ, though Iâm vaguely aware that the frontier delineating Northern from Southern California is under dispute (i.e., it depends on who you ask).
For the Midwest, the region I am most familiar with, I think these are reasonable zones of culture, though I would quibble with some of the names. The Ohio River originates a little bit above the âeâ in âUpperâ in âUpper Appalachiaâ. It drains into the Mississippi right above the ârâ in âUpper Southâ. It is the border of all those states in between. So you can see most of the actual Ohio River Valley is excluded from what they mark as the Ohio River Valley. And the northern part of the alleged Ohio River Valley I think doesnât drain to the Ohio. But you know that scene in the Blues Brothers movie where they are outside of Chicago, pull into a bar, and they say they play both kinds of music, Country and Western? Yeah, different cultural zone.
The part labeled âGreat Lakesâ isnât wrong, but it also overlaps with what is called âthe Rust Beltâ and also could be considered Upper Midwest.
The term âNorthwoodsâ I heard more in Minnesota and Wisconsin than in Michigan. For all three states, a more common term for that zone is âUp Northâ.
Whatâs labeled âChesapeakeâ isnât wrong, either, but they also call themselves âMid-Atlanticâ.
I donât know much about the delineations of âout westâ, though Iâm vaguely aware that the frontier delineating Northern from Southern California is under dispute (i.e., it depends on who you ask).
Basically. Itâs something like this:
People not from/familiar with Southern California: Thatâs basically LA and around there right?
People not from but somewhat familiar with Southern California: South of the Central Valley, right? (* basically yes)
People from Southern California and/or very familiar with Southern California: Once you come off the Grapevine* thatâs SoCal. San Luis Obisipo? Thatâs too far up PCH thatâs the coast. Anyone on the coast north of like, Santa Barbara, hell even them, they hate it when you say theyâre in SoCal. Theyâre âcoastalâ (as if LA isnât on the fucking coast.) Bakersfieldâs kind of north, theyâre still in the Central Valley. No not *the* Valley, thatâs the San Fernando Valley. Very different. Las Vegas is just East California.
Meanwhile:
San Luis Obisipo: WEâRE NOT SOCAL WEâRE CENTRAL COAST HOW VERY DARE YOU. >:(
Bakersfield: Weâre literally in the Central Valley, lol?
* i.e. south of Tejon Pass
okay, all these additions are hilarious and valid. i was going to add the rust belt and UP additions for Michigan too. lastly, though this is super specific, the part of norcal i live in is generally called âgold country.â
idk why the midwest is so far east, but i bet it has to do with the mississippi river and the fact that the US was essentially settled east to west by americans (the spaniards, French, and indigenous peoples established regions too)
the person in comments who is shocked that most of new york is considered âupstate new yorkâ⊠i mean, that one city covers like, what, 6 square miles and should prolly rightfully be itâs own country, so yeah.
I have lived in Washington State nearly my whole life and so have my parents. While there is a distinct cultural and ideological difference east and west of Cascade mountains, one here calls it Cascadia. We all pretty universally call it PNW or Pacific Northwest.
I have also lived in Norfolk, VA and Florida. That area is probably Chesapeake Bay, but people in Virginia Beach def specified that they were different. The people in Jacksonville, FLcall that area the First Coast. I never heard it called Low Country (at least not in northeast FL).
Reenactor throws a spear at a drone
What a time to be alive.
âThe medieval warrior, realizing the consequences of his impulsive act, immediately approached the owner of the drone and offered to pay for the damage.
The owner of the drone was so impressed by the brilliant attack that he suggested organizing a competition for bringing down âdragonsâ with short spears next year.
Drone owners have another year to develop a unique âdragon-likeâ design for their flying machines.â (x)
I am 100% cooler with this knowing that the spear-thrower realized âoops maybe I shouldnât have done thatâ and tried to make it right, and that the guy who the drone belonged to was cool with it
just so everyone knows, this has already been memorialized in a runestone
Everything about this post blesses those involved with a +4 on their next Today is Good Day roll
I crack up every time at seeing that runestone.Â
This shall never scroll up and away on my dash without a reblog.

no offence to the people on this site but what the fuck is wrong with everybody
i love cutthroat kitchen but bingewatching makes it really stand out how often alton brown refers to himself as âdaddyâ and makes contestants wear spreader bars
Iâm sorry what

#I CANâT BELIEVE I NOW KNOW WHERE TO BUY THE EXACT FETISH GEAR THEY USE ON MY FAVORITE COOKING SHOW
@genericrevenge
OKAY BUT WHY THE FUCK ARE THEY USING SPREADER BARS ON A COOKING SHOW??!??! DOESNT THAT MAKE IT KINDA HARD TO COOK???!?
kinda, yeah
@datas-vibrating-robot-dong this seems like your speed
That logo looks familiar.
WHAT
OH MY GOD
We met Alton Brown at a show he did here - we paid the extra cash to meet him and get a blurry cellphone pic with him and have him sign a picture. He noticed my (male) companionâs pocket watch, and proceeded to order him to take it out of his pocket. It wasnât obnoxious, it was in a Dom tone that brooked no argument. So he complied. When he found out it wasnât wound, and so not working, he was deeply disappointed, and told him to do better next time.Â
If this guy isnât a Dom, Iâll eat that spreader bar.
This post just keeps going new places every reblog cycle.
Every time this post comes around it has another plot twist
The first time I saw this post, I had just finished telling my husband that Alton overuses the word âlubeâ on Good Eats when heâs referring to oiling up a pan. Alton knows exactly what heâs doing.
I mean...I get what the artist is trying to say, but I think Luna Lu needs to review an anatomy text book.
