Oh hey, all you Library-Loving Libby users out there. A piece of advice for you. Go to your search engine of choice and type in “[your local library] reciprocal agreements”.
Might pull up nothing, but chances are there are somewhere between two and seven other Library systems in your state that you can get a card at perfectly legitimately simply by applying for one with your current address and proof of having an active card at your local library. You can then log into Libby with these and use them even if you never manage to go to a physical building of that library. (Though you should take advantage of the physical library too if you can) Some of them might have significantly larger or at least different ebook/audiobook collections for you.
Yes and!
There's a website (https://reciprocard.com/) that will pull up this info if you put in your hometown library, and gives you a link to apply to the different libraries. Sometimes you don't even need to apply. My library is in a consortium that just uses my card to cover all the other libraries. I use the same card number.
Your results page also lists some libraries that will let you get a non-resident card, usually for a yearly fee. (Frex, I decided it was a way better use of my precious dollars to get a Queens Public Library card for a year than to pay for that streamer I never watch anything on.)

I’m a lover by nature except for when I’m a wretched hater cunt bitch which I also am by nature
Possibly my spiciest take is that it's actually good to have people you respect and like that have some dogshit takes.
I think part of what is making young people lonelier, in discussing why they're increasingly isolated, is that they're so afraid of meeting someone who doesn't hold their same beliefs, and instead of being just core beliefs it is kinda ancillary shit.
It's actually okay to disagree even on social topics! Even on some political ones! But I mean, online you can start with "i love this mutual but they have a really bad/uninformed opinion about x media"
I know this is IMMEDIATELY going to be taken in bad faith, and yes babygirl, you are so right, I DO want you to go make best friends with both the KKK grand wizard AND your nearest nazi leader.
But seriously, as someone who has spent two decades doing community organization: finding ways to connect with different people is so so so important. There are people i follow here who ate 80% smart and their brain falls out of their head 20% of the time and that is GOOD FOR MY MENTAL ECOSYSTEM AND GOOD FOR LEARNING HOW TO BE A PERSON
LET'S ALL GO PISS ON THE POOR
It’s also good to assume you probably are the friend whose brain falls out 20% of the time.
We all have blind spots, assumptions, and dogshit take from time to time. They can’t all be winners.
Desperately needed to have this on my blog

That is actually a color photo. This is just Finland looks in this dreadful transition to/from winter.
I see it’s time to bring back the timeless Finnish classics; ’Kouvola in grayscale photographs‘, and it’s peer, ’Kouvola in full colour’.
The Problem With AI Vigilantism in Fandom
I want to talk about the harm caused by trying to police AI in creative communities, because things are getting really toxic. For the record, I dislike generative AI too. I think it’s built on theft and goes against the point of human expression. But turning online spaces into places where everyone is watched just to catch 'AI users' is hurting marginalized creators. Before you accuse someone based on a gut feeling or an unreliable detector, remember this: What people call AI 'tells' often look a lot like standard ESL writing. Non-native English speakers usually use structured, precise grammar or stick to common transitions because that’s how they learn the language. Accusing someone of using AI just because their writing sounds 'too clean' or 'formulaic' is often just xenophobia. This also hurts neurodivergent or hyper-focused writers. Many writers on the spectrum have their own structured styles, or they can write a lot in a short time. Calling high productivity or a different writing style 'robotic' pushes away the very people who make fan spaces interesting. The 'witch hunt' mindset does real damage. A community can handle a few cases of bad, AI-generated text getting through. What it can’t handle is a place where creators are too scared to post because a few loud voices are ready to attack them over a simple sentence.
AI models are trained on very structured, perfect grammar. So when a real person uses precise words, common transitions like 'Furthermore' or 'It is important to note,' or textbook grammar, detectors often say it’s AI. There’s a real ESL bias: studies show non-native English speakers get falsely accused much more often. Because ESL writers use standard words and sentence structures, detectors often flag their real work as robotic. One Stanford study found that 61% of essays written by international students were wrongly flagged as AI by at least one detector.
I want to end with one last message: stop trying to act like a digital cop. If you don’t like something, just move on. Unless someone openly says they used Gen AI, forcing people to defend themselves in public is ruining the spaces we’re trying to protect.
Published in “Transvestia” magazine #38 (April 1966). I think original art could be by Bob Tupper.
not sure if anyone’s added this info here but because I wanted to know more I checked and….
Every issue of transvestia magazine, which ran from the 60’s through to the 80’s is available through the uVic archives. It was a groundbreaking publication for the crossdressing and later the transgender community. Check it out.
