Here are some of my current obsessions as well. Fair warning, it’s mostly music-related because my main hobby is listening to music. At the moment, I have well over 3400 songs (update: 4100ish lol) on my Spotify.

Sleep Token’s new album, Take Me Back to Eden. Just take off Are You Really Okay? and DYWTYLM and it’s perfect. (I’m so glad that they’re finally getting popular, though. It was a crime for them to be so underrated for so long.)

Favorite track: Take Me Back To Eden or Ascensionism (it’s so hard to pick lol)

Invent Animate’s new album, Heavener. It’s the prettiest metal I’ve ever heard.

Favorite track: Elysium

Invent Animate’s 2021 single, The Sun Sleeps, As If It Never Was. Again, it is the absolute prettiest metal. I could listen to those three songs all day and not get bored.

Dance Gavin Dance’s first album, Downtown Battle Mountain. Every time I go back to that album, I fall in love with it again. It’s so raw and emotional. Jonny Craig’s vocals and lyrics are just... *chef’s kiss.*

Favorite track: It’s Safe to Say You Dig the Backseat

Electric Callboy’s newest album, Tekkno. It’s the most fun I’ve had while listening to metal. I didn’t think they could make anything remotely as good or fun as Hypa Hypa, yet here we are.

Favorite track: Mindreader

Vinland Saga in general. Thorfinn’s character development was astounding, and Canute’s? Fantastisch. I haven’t felt this much emotion from one manga since I read Haikyuu!! (I cried reading the “You’re a true warrior” scene, and I don’t think I’m going to emotionally recover from that. The “You’re my only friend” scene was still way worse, though. I was sobbing from that one, and I never cry.)

Favorite character: Garm

(He looks like Gau from FF6, and I cannot unsee it.)

I will not shut up about anything listed up above if you ask about it. Please don’t get me started.

Also, I almost exclusively listen to rock and metal, but I really do listen to other genres. There’s just something about heavy music that scratches an itch I can’t explain. I blame my dad’s influence.

Something interesting to me about Ace and Sabo is that both of them have conflicting personalities? I find it a little hard to explain. Both of them seem different on the surface compared to how they feel about things internally. However, I personally see a main difference in how this goes for them.

With Ace, while for example he seems joyful, friendly, goofy, confident and such on the outside, he has a lot of insecurities on the inside that he keeps to himself and traits like being cynical, low on self-esteem and angry. BUT the positive traits are still him being him. He isn't trying to fool others by putting on an act to seem different. What he is doing is hiding parts of himself and not fully showing people what kind of person he is as a whole.

Meanwhile, with Sabo, I would say he is actively trying to hide his true feelings and struggles by putting on a mask. In dressrosa both when he is battling Fujitora and in his reunion with Luffy, you can see that he is trying to seem like this cheerful and chill guy and while his act wavers when it comes to talking about Ace he slips back under it immediately afterwards. It doesn't come of as fully natural. You can see it more clearly when he is talking about Cobra's death with Dragon and Ivankov and how he says he doesn't care all that much as long as it serves their purpose, which is NOT what you see when you actually see from him in the flashbacks. I also think that's why he has conflicted feelings about the flame emperor nickname.

Even after all these years I still think that this is the most beautiful love confession in the entirety of shonen genre.

Love that transcends lifetimes, timelines, multiverses, the very forces of cosmos and all that stuff is my favorite trope. Powerful stuff.

Still can't believe that it was almost 20 years of shipping them.

I love a character raised to be a weapon as much as the next guy. But what really gets me is a character raised to be a shield. Who can’t fathom being needed—or even being wanted— beyond keeping others safe. Who believe they are alive only to insure someone doesn’t die. no matter the cost. Characters who self-sacrifice not because they think they deserve it, but because no one else does deserve it, and it’s their job to protect.

Characters who’ve been told that’s why your important. Your worth something because this other person/ thing is important, and you are here solely to keep them safe.

Bonus points if it’s not a legitimate job they’ve been given. Maybe at one point it was, but now that they are free from it, they haven’t given up that mentality. No one is forcing or asking them to do this, but they need to. They need to in order to be deserving.

like i am being so unironic when i say that ace's death is THE number one most devastating death in anime Ever Of All Time. everything about it is so unspeakably tragic. none of marineford HAD to happen and yet it was the only way it COULD happen. even before the asl flashback the writing is on the wall for us that the only thing ace would have done is what he did. the silly little cover story about him around skypiea gives us the detail that he has a rage button for people dissing whitebeard. the fact that he takes time out of his manhunt for blackbeard to linger for a bit in alabasta in the hopes that he'll get to reunite with luffy speaks volumes to how important luffy is to him. like i don't think that's talked about enough: ace puts this whole mission that he committed himself to--independently, against advice from his captainfather--ON HOLD to MAYBE catch up with his baby brother. like of course. of course he would turn back when akainu calls whitebeard a loser. of course he would put himself between akainu and luffy. and everything we see of him afterward will never let you forget it. half the time he shows up in flashbacks as an adult he's gushing about luffy to the point that whoever he's talking to teases him about it. he wears his love for whitebeard in huge, unmissable fashion on his back, and almost never covers it up. it's so eerily reminiscent of how law makes himself a monument to corazon that i can't help but wonder if it's intentional. all the signs are there. and it's all made worse by the fact that i don't think akainu KNEW immediately that it'd go down like that. he's confused when ace turns back to him, but he's shrewd enough to press the advantage, shrewd enough to target the weaker link so that one of the brothers dies no matter what happens. it adds this horrible futility to the whole thing that's just wrenching. and then to capstone it with 'thank you for loving me' like. agh. he dies smiling. what the actual fuck.

I know I don’t owe any of you anything but I still felt compelled to write about my long term absence. And I feel far enough away from the dangerous spot I was in to be able to make this comic. I have a therapist now, and she agreed that making this could be a very cathartic gesture, and the start of properly leaving these thoughts behind me. I am still, at seemingly random times, blindsided by fleeting desires to kill myself. They’re always passing urges, but it’s disarming, and uncomfortable. I worry sometimes that my brain’s spent so long thinking only about suicide that it’s forgotten how to think about anything else. Like, now that I've opened that door for myself, I'll never be able to fully shut it again. But I’m trying my best to encourage my mind in other directions. We'll see how that goes.

I am still donating all proceeds from my store to Palestinian causes. So far, I've donated over $15K, not including donations coming from my own pocket or the fundraising streams which jointly raised around $10K. In the time since I made my initial post about where this money would be going, the focus has shifted from aid organisations to directly donating to escape funds.

If you'd like to do the same, you can look at Operation Olive Branch, which hosts hundreds of Palestinian escape funds or donate to Safebow, which has helped facilitate the safe crossing and securing of important medical procedures for over 150 at-risk palestinians since the beginning of the genocide.
