So I was watching this old video again because the new Good Omens season triggered my obsession with Neil Gaiman's stories that creeps up periodically ( and his voice is soothing to listen to while I draw) And at about 1:25:30 there's a part that really made me giggle, cause this is what he says when asked about themes in his work:

Cas doesn't know SHIT about cars btw. Dean tries to teach him every week for an excuse to press up close to him and point at car parts and Cas tunes him out every time in favour of basking in Dean's attention. This is because cars and their inner workings are Boring.

To be clear Dean also doesn't really want Cas to learn how to fix stuff when it goes wrong bc he likes to be relied on to save people.

When Cas inevitably does have a breakdown and calls Dean at 2am to come and fix it Dean complains on the phone all the way there but when he arrives he had the biggest grin and when Cas says "thank you Dean" looking right in his eye he almost passes out from how hard he gets

He gets all flustered like he did with Aaron and drops his spanner and it keeps slipping out of his hands when he tries to pick it up and he goes "ha it's from the-" (oh god) "-from the lube-" (OH GOD) "-the lube from the car I wasn't jacking off" (OH MY GOD) and then he rests his hand on the still hot engine and burns himself so Cas reaches out to heal him and he rips his hand away (if he touches me he's going to Know) "no no it's fine" but then Cas goes ??? 😔 bc no intricate ritual

and Dean is like. Okay. And now it's Worse bc he made a big deal out of it bc Cas links their fingers together and presses palm to palm and is there Bjork playing somewhere bc it's Big Time Sensuality. And then Cas wipes his contact-lubed hand on Dean's shirt and says okay bye 👋 flies back into the drivers seat of his car and drives off

To be fair, almost everyone in Ratatouille does have a French accent. The real question is why Linguini and also all the rats sound intensely American

If it was just the rats I’d say it’s because the movie can be interpreted to mean that the rats understand but don’t necessarily speak human languages so the rat dialog isn’t literally taking place the way we see it but that doesn’t explain why Linguini has a rat accent
