Buck blinks, but it doesn’t change the reality of what he’s looking at—which is Eddie, tipsy-drunk from the bottomless mimosas, chin propped in his hand as he stares at Buck.

“Um, can’t say I’ve really noticed,” Buck says, cheeks burning—Hen is staring at the two of them with a raised brow but says nothing, the only one at the table who appears to have heard.

“It’s pretty,” Eddie continues, and before Buck can stop him, he reaches out and brushes Buck’s bottom lip with his thumb, then his birthmark, gentle and reverent and life-altering.

Buck looks around; there’s no way the rest of the table didn’t see that, but they’re all pointedly not looking—at least not until Eddie tips forward and replaces his thumb with his lips.
