Tommy was holding Minnie in one arm, swaying gently as he sang along with the song that was playing. It wasn’t one that Buck knew, but it was easily about to become his favorite song with the way his heart was going to melt out of his chest. Minnie looked perfectly content, settled comfortably in Tommy’s arm, blinking her pretty blue eyes up at him, one little hand curved around his jaw, resting there like she’d just been patting it. She loved to run her little hands across their faces. In the other hand Tommy was spraying cooking spray into a waffle maker that Buck had never seen in his life. This had to be a dream. Something pulled from his deepest desires when he’d ached for a life that meant something, when all he wanted was to just be someone who mattered. Happy and safe and loved with the people— his people— that made life worth living.
