Well, he’s technically not a pet at all, and technically not mine, and not on tumblr (at the moment) so it’s not really answering the question. But since I assume we all love snakes some people might be interested to know about him anyway.

I volunteer at a wildlife rehab center in California, and we have a non-releasable education gopher snake named Lazarus, who came to the center back in the 80s as a full grown adult, after his head was intentionally run over by a kid on a bike. He managed to survive, despite everything, he suffered a broken jaw that healed, though it created some problems for him when unhinging his jaw to feed, but the biggest reason we have him and he can’t be released is he suffered brain damage and now flips upside down frequently, casually slithers backwards around his enclosure, and strikes his food in the opposite direction of where it is and needs a lot of help eating as a result. But anyway, my point is, Lazarus was a full grown adult around 30 years ago, which makes him over 30 years old, possibly nearly 40 at this point, and I have been trying to find an older snake in the world period and haven’t found much, I think there’s a 36 year old gopher snake on record somewhere. Anyway gopher snakes have an average live expectancy of 15 so he’s twice as old as the average gopher snake. Which is pretty cool, so, NOT really an answer to the question, but Laz is a precious and super sweet and quirky snoot that deserves to be known about.

My own ball python, Alistair, is still just over a year, so, I don’t know about the oldest snake on tumblr or within the tumblr community haha.

He is amazing although this looks a lot like a wobble, I’m wondering if getting hit did any neuro damage

He has a lot of odd habits and behaviors, while we’ve had no absolute confirmation of neurological issues, such as x-rays or anything of the sort, his behavior seems to suggest it. He does have quite a few issues when eating that at the very least tell us he would have a very tough time surviving in the wild, which is why he lives at the center. 

He gets to go to schools to educate the local kids on how important snakes are and how people should never treat them the way Laz was treated. It’s particularly nice when kids tell us they’re afraid of snake, but after hearing about Laz and seeing him, want to get closer and see him better and know more about him. We have other educational animals, and they’re all amazing and important, but I like hearing kids tell me Lazarus was their favorite animal to see and learn about, haha.

This is a dik dik. They are tiny antelopes from southern and eastern Africa–seriously so smol. With teeny hooves and teeny horns and big soulful eyes. And the name is fun to say. It comes from the alarm call that the females make. They live together in monogamous pairs.

often the color of donald trump’s hair and looking like a cross between a bison and a guinea pig, the takin is actually a bloody big goat-antelope. they have splendid noses, a natural smile, and share their habitat with pandas. which should be good enough for anyone.

This is an okapi. They are related to giraffe, can lick their own eyeballs and kind of always look like you just asked them for a ride to the airport but look at those ears and the little striped legs ~(*^*)~
