i am..not keeping up with tumblr at all so if you post things i will very likely not see them. but i am diving in for an update!

my letter for gender marker change from my shit endocrinologist came on saturday so i drove back to my parents yesterday so i could turn in my name and gender marker change stuff today! i was so anxious but it all went really well, everyone at the clerk’s office was really nice and i just hope they filed everything correctly. there’s no actual procedure for gender marker so i just. hope they do that right? but i went and got my name change notice published in this tiny newspaper i’ve never heard of so it cost way less than i had budgeted for which is Nice. my hearing is august 3 which is the week i am house/petsitting for my sister so i will be in the right place anyway so no extra drive! i am so excited!!!

i’m kind of stressed to change everything in my life to the right name but. it’s worth it! i am annoyed that ijust booked a flight for like 3 weeks after in my current name so idk how to fix that? but oh well (i am going to boston for a weekend idt any of yall are from that area but if so hit me up???)

No, your cat is not tricking you or setting a trap for you. You’re just misreading what she’s trying to communicate.

Basically, there are two ways that cats bond with their colonymates (and if you own a cat, you count as a colonymate): grooming, and play. Grooming is self-explanatory; play mostly means means wrestling, because cats are hardcore like that.

A cat who wishes to engage in bonding - whether grooming or play - is going to do one of two things: either she’s going to initiate bonding, or she’s going to solicit bonding. A cat who wants to initiate bonding will just walk up and start licking or wrestling with with you; conversely, a cat who wants to solicit bonding will indicate, in some fashion, that she wants you to be the one to start grooming or playing with her.

Now, here’s the trick: because play for a cat typically means play-fighting, one of the most common ways for a cat to solicit play is to deliberately adopt a vulnerable position, thereby communicating that her prospective partner should mock-attack her in order to begin a wrestling match.

Sound familiar?

Basically, if your cat rolls over onto her back and looks at you really expectantly, like she’s anticipating some action on your part, and you go in for a belly rub and get your hand shredded, it’s not a kitty prank. Rather, you misinterpreted a solicitation for play as a solicitation for grooming.

You’ll save yourself a lot of blood loss if you learn to tell the difference!

(It’s possible to teach a cat how to roughhouse with a human partner without causing injury, but it takes work. If you aren’t able to put in that kind of training time, it’s usually best to redirect to a different form of play when you recognise that your cat is trying to get a wrestling match going; a game of chase is a popular alternative.)

i haven’t been on this hell website in like 2 weeks but here’s my cosplay prog for fanime! i am flying there in 10 days but i really need ot be done in 8 and have a fucked up hat and a belt to make. anyway i just spent like 15 hours this weekend doing these gloves while hyped up on sudafed because caught a bad cold the first week of summer

My new meds make my skin throw a fit. It’s not terribly bad, just a few things here and there, but it’s bumming me out because I’ve never really had too many run-ins with acne.

My four-year-old sister, however, is under the impression that it’s just “3D freckles”, and that they look very, very pretty. She wants all of my freckles to “pop out”, especially the ones across my nose; they’re her favourite.

And it puts me in this weird position where I can’t say, “No, this is acne, and it’s bad,” because I don’t want to teach her that it’s a bad to have unclear skin, you know?

Because the more I think about interactions I have with children, the more I realise that children will consistently compliment “flaws” until they’ve been taught not to.

Like, a kid at the library, whose sister has vitiligo, saw my scars once and suggested that his sister and I should be cats for Halloween, since I have “tabby skin” and she has “calico skin”. “I can be a black cat,” he immediately added. “It’s not AS cool, but they’re the spookiest.”

When I started losing weight, my little brother immediately demanded that I gain it back, because I wasn’t as comfortable to cuddle with anymore.

And my other little sister always wants to wear her paint-stained clothes to school so that “everyone can tell [she’s] an artist”.

I don’t know. I guess talking to little kids just reminds me that all of this superficial shit we worry about really is 100% made up.
