According to DailyMail, Loca suffers from a brain disorder called Ataxia. The article is quoted as saying “ It is a harmless brain condition but symptoms include leaning, toppling, falling and rolling over.”

Wikipedia clarifies that cerebellar ataxia is a neurological disorder that means the subject lacks the ability to coordinate voluntary muscle movements. So Loca can move and run, but she can’t get all her body parts to work in concert.

It appears that in canines, ataxia is considered to be an inherited genetic condition. (Wikipedia seems to indicate that there are many more causes in humans.) While no studies specifically reference pugs, sources point to inbreeding/bad breeding in dogs increasing the prevalence of ataxia in the purebred populations. While Loca’s ataxia could just be bad luck in the genetic lottery, it’s also possible that the tendency for inbreed in the pug world contributed to her health issues. Unlike some dogs, which develop such severe ataxia that they’re humanely euthanized, Loca seems to be surviving and thriving with the help of her dedicated humans, which is fantastic. 

Just because a dog has a genetic disorder or a disability doesn’t mean they can’t be cute. In fact, this is a fantastic example of dedicated humans supporting an animal they adopted despite her health problems, and a great way to raise awareness - unlike the original post, articles about her contain information about her disorder as well as lauding her antics in the included videos.

Also, last night at Pulse was latin night with several Puerto Rican trans talents headlining (source). they’re names are Kenya Michaels and Jasmine International (source)

more to the point, this may have been a gay club, but bi, pan, and trans folx were there in that club last night. this club was “started it to promote awareness of the area’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community” and “ hosts nightly themed performances as well as a monthly program of LGBT-related educational events” (source)

specifically there were our POC LGBTQ+ siblings in this club. this is a hate crime against the entire community in an LGBTQ+ safe space that was celebrating the diversity of the community that was targeted. 

don’t erase our siblings that were there. specifically there were two Puerto Rican trans people headlining last night. This is not just an attack against the gay community, it is an attack against the entire community, the POC trans people there, the other bi and pan people there…. this was a crime against our entire community.
