ONE WEEK!
Rites & Desires launches officially in one week. If you’re thinking you might check it out-- have a look at what some advance readers are saying on Goodreads.
The book is available to Kindle users for pre-order and will be live on Amazon, B&N, and in person at the University Bookstore in Seattle Tuesday the 20th.
I will be posting a list of launch events and readings on my blog soon. If you’re in the Seattle area, I‘d love to see you!
Happy Anniversary to my beloved husband, without whom I would never have been able to write a book. You keep me sane through the pre-release jitters, and you literally are the reason I have my next writing job. You’re my favorite nerf herder. I love you!
Needing to share this picture of my dog and his new favorite book. It’s also the fournado’s current favorite. Tagging @wilwheaton because I can’t seem to find Anne on Tumblr. Anne Wheaton is the author. We enjoyed meeting her at ECCC (my little guy wore his Wesley Crusher sweater). She is lovely and the book has a sweet message and a beautiful ending.
If you have little kids or a pug, this may just be the book for you! It’ s a hit in my house.
TOP SECRET
I have big news, y’all.
It’s related to my writing, but not to the book that’s releasing in 11 days.
And it’s SO BIG that I can’t share it yet. The best I can tell as of right now, it will be public in May. So that’s not tooooooo terribly long to wait. But I am so excited that I can hardly contain myself.
Welcome to SYFY Wire's coverage of Emerald City Comic Con! Schedule for Saturday (Day 3) - Panel 1: 2:00 pm ET/11:00 am PT: Jim Butcher Spotlight 3:15 pm ET/...
I got to do a very cool thing on Sunday. Interviewing BB-8′s lead puppeteer Brian Herring was the highlight of my convention. If you weren’t able to make it- check it out on SyFyWire!
Today I was interviewed by @scarywhitegirl over at History that Never Was. I talk about my book, my villain protagonist, and my background writing fan fiction.
@amilynh you get a special shout out in the interview!
Emerald City Comic Con is this weekend. Will I see you there?
The first review for Rites & Desires is posted!
“Ruby is a delightful rogue, equal to any Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne”
YES THAT IS AN ACTUAL QUOTE from the first published review of Rites & Desires.
The book is available for Kindle pre-order on Amazon.
Add it to your Goodreads shelf
And if you’re in Seattle, maybe plan to come by the launch party on March 20th at the University Bookstore at 7:PM
THIS IS ALL VERY EXCITING!
I got to meet my book last night at dinner with my publishers and some other awesome Cobalt City authors. Watch me make a fool of myself!
“Writing a book is so easy.”
Yes. Writing a book is the easiest thing in the whole world. In fact, let me show you just how easy it is!
Goal: change all this paper into a book.
Eh, not that hard. I mean, you just have to read, right?
Maybe scratch a few notes in the margins as reminders.
Yeah, writing and editing isn’t time consuming or painstaking at all.
In fact, I find it quite relaxing. Good meditation. No stress whatsoever!
I mean, it’s not like writing a book involves any train of thought or decision making, like when to cut scenes, because whatever you write is perfect and there to stay!
I mean, come on, it’s not like I’m going to rewrite the first chapter 51 TIMES to make sure it’s how I want it, right? That’d be crazy.
And no, it’s not like I spent over 3,000 HOURS READING AND REVISING 14 DRAFTS OF THE BOOK to make this book readable.
No sweat, no tears, no blood, and DEFINITELY no coffee stains.
Nope, writing is the easiest job in the world. I don’t see why anyone thinks otherwise. I mean, all we do is scribble words and take a few out, right?
We feel no satisfaction AT ALL when we receive a shipment of the final product for a book signing. *yawn* BOR–ING.
Nope, we don’t get excited at all. It’s just another day in the life.
And the sequels? Bitch, please. That’s child’s play.
You’re right. Writing a book is so easy. It’s not stressful, not exciting, and it’s definitely not worth the reward of holding something that USED TO BE EXCLUSIVELY IN YOUR HEAD AND NOW YOU GET TO SHARE IT WITH THE WHOLE WORLD.
Im not sure this scares me or inspires me…
so much more respect for writers now
I never printed mine out like this. But I feel this post in my bones.
@editorincreeps! Atty, I saw this and immediately thought of you. :)
EXCELLENT questions.
Proof copy has arrived. I get to meet it on Thursday.
Mad Scientist Journal will be launching our fifth anthology Kickstarter on February 1st! You can learn more about it here!
Not only is this a cool project to back, but I know there are some of you on my feed who will want to submit.
This anthology is going to be very cool.
Fan Fiction Contest!
The folks over at Unmistakably Star Wars are hosting a fan fiction contest! Writers of Tumblr, that means YOU could get your fic read my the USW team ad maybe have a piece published on their site. It’s a great way to get your work in front of a broader audience.
Deadline for submissions is February 8th, so you have plenty of time to polish up an entry. Categories are: SHORT (<6000 words), NOVELLA (6000-40,000 words) and COMIC/GRAPHIC NOVELLA (illustrated). Creators are welcome to enter onw piece per category.
For more information, including how to enter, CLICK HERE
Hey there HanLeia fam! DO THIS!!
I would love nothing more than to see this site get a barrage of your beautiful OT fic. I know there are some writers among you who would definitely be competitive.
Some other things I know:
Stories DO NOT have to fit in the current Star Wars canon. All your AU and Legends stories are absolutely welcome.
There is no rule about stories posted elsewhere nor about prior awards. Got a Golden Yoda winner somewhere? SEND IT IN
You retain all the rights to your work, so there’s no risk of being asked to host a story exclusively on USW.
The people running the contest are super cool and have been very helpful in my quest to learn more about it so I can share it with you.
Go forth and CREATE (or send in things you’ve already written- there’s plenty of brilliance there for the picking)!
Hey all you wonderful authors and artists, check this out! Send in your submissions!
This is so cool! Would love to see some great HanLeia fics get recognized here…
Oh my. Please @knightedrogue @cicatrick @otterandterrier @madame-alexandra @corellian-smuggler @organanation
AND I KNOW I’M FORGETTING PEOPLE because I have a fever and am a spaz.
Enter this contest. Wouldn’t it be beautiful if they were just inundated with Han/Leia fic and it completely overwhelmed all the ST-canon stuff? Fanfic revolution!
Thanks for the shout-out! I’m afraid the giving out my full name requirement in the form is a deterrent for me to enter (and I don’t know which one of my stories would make for a good contest entry anyway), but signal boosting for my SW author friends!
Hey there everyone! I pinged the organizer and she says you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT have to give your real name. You can use a pen name that you’re known by, a pseudonym you pick just for the contest, ANYTHING. So don’t be discouraged by the name blanks on the form. You can put anything you’re comfortable with in them.

I don’t understand why books have shifted from having summaries on the back of the covers to having one-line reviews.
Seriously though. I want to know what the book is about. Not that someone from the Evening Standard thinks it’s a masterpiece.
I have been waiting for this post my whole life.
My book has a summary on the back. My editor and I worked very hard on it. It reads like this:
Ruby Killingsworth relies on magic to keep her entertainment empire on top. When a ritual gone wrong robbed her of this magic, she wasn't about to take it lying down. Enlisting Loki's aid and commanding the band of supernatural henchmen he’s proffered, Ruby embarks to capture the magic of an ancient African gem. While endeavoring to regain her powers, Ruby must also contend with the daily business of Goblin Records, her romantic designs on her billionaire neighbor, and the unwanted attention of the newly elected U.S. president. The return of her power and a relationship with the city's most prominent citizen would give Ruby all she ever desired. But magic comes with a price, politics are a dirty business—doubly so when a trickster god gets involved—and Loki is never on anyone’s side but his own.
