I planned this #burger for April First, since that was the first anniversary of the burger challenge, however... With the ingredients put together--Guacamole, peppered bacon, fried chicken steak-- I can only think of one occasion befitting -- "the #420 #munchies burger" #anyonecancook

When I think of #cinammon, I immediately think of warm and sugary sticky buns. Being the #NCfair just happened, I still have a lot of junk foods on my mind, none more so than that infamous #KrispyKremeBurger. This is my version. The #CinnabunBurger Started cinnamon buns from scratch, half-baked in oven until dough rised significantly, then I throw them suckers onto a griddle to crispen for that added 'crunch' in the bites. Next, cinnamon and apple just goes together, naturally, so I whipped up a cinnamon brown sugar habanero apple chutney... ...which goes very well with the chorizo burger patties, complimented with fresh sweet basil leaves! I am very proud of this one. #thegreatburgerchallenge #anyonecancook #junkfood
Hello #thegreatburgerchallenge fans! Sorry I took a couple days off for "personal reflection," i.e., I got drunk on my birthday and are hungover... So, the appropriate ingredient for this month would be #coffee @amandarhode, I expect great things from you this month!
When @amandarhode and I first created #thegreatburgerchallenge we were definitely envisioning burger creations that are way out of the box... But today, I present to you, something that appears simple, yet the surprises are packed inside a familiar look. Cherry Chili Sloppy Joe Burger. Yup. That's right! I said it! 97% ground beef, diced and paste tomato, roasted garlic (smoked really, since I was smoking a pork shoulder yesterday and these bulbs got smoked together,) black pepper, chiles ancho/pasilla/arbol, pitted cherries, and a lot of time boiling down the liquid to get a good Sloppy Joe consistency. The meal is accompanied by Black Cherry Cream Soda, and homemade Cherry Wine (well more like fermented cherry juice.) Happy September everyone! #cherries #sloppyjoes

Hello #thegreatburgerchallenge fans! Here is the challenge for @amandarhode in the month of July... cucumbers! Should be nice and refreshing for the hot summer month.
Hi all! @malibukenny here, with the offering of June's #thegreatburgerchallenge. @amandarhode knows I sleep/eat/drink/love beers, so I really think she lets me off the hook this month. When I think #beers cooking, I automatically think #beerandbrats. So I bought two and half pounds of bratwurst, took the meat out of casing, mixed with finely crushed Graham Cracker "breading" and all-seasoning. Medium heat on skillet until barely pink in the middle. Then I sautéed Golden Onion strings, then add half cup of @prairieales Bomb! and 2 tbsp of molasses, and caramelized until beer sauce is reduced. Lastly, I hand cut two Russet potatoes, sun dried for a day until dehydrated, and then rehydrate them in @dogfishbeer #120minutesipa. Afterward, strained the liquid, mixed half cup of that IPA, add one egg, half cup masa flour, coat each potato fried well, and fried in medium-high heat until golden brown. Since I got some of that batter left, I mixed quarter-pound of string beans in there, and made some #greanbeanfries. P.S. There are some ingredients in this challenge that you can get tasked with and trust your gut. For me (@amandarhode) I've got a pretty good gut when it comes to conceptualizing food. But a pretty good gut doesn't mean perfection–especially with an ingredient you have zero experience cooking with...I'm talking to you bamboo. Last month, after I returned from an inspiring 2.5 week work trip to China and Taiwan, @malibukenny challenged me with the task of using bamboo as my secret ingredient for May. Sadly, unbeknownst to me, bamboo is a bitch. It's not an easy ingredient (or flavor) to master in a month. In truth, I was so intimidated by cooking with bamboo that I turned to bamboo extract and Hot Bamboo Shoots from Grand Asia Market. I'm not proud by my intimidation, nor my jarred bamboo and extract-dependent short corners. I'm especially not proud that, even with those helping hands, this burger sucks. Really. Total flop. It's too fatty and tastes a little like what I imagine piss to taste like. Regardless, I plated it with my original intent in mind, determined to see it to completion. This is my bamboo burger: bamboo rice formed–with wet hands and bamboo sea salt–into rice buns (if you've had a MOS Burger before, you know my intent here), pork belly cooked gua bao (pork bun) style, topped with chopped hot bamboo shoots. And, of course, while this burger is "complete," that doesn't mean this challenge was successful. That's right, for the first time in the history of #TheGreatBurgerChallenge, this challenge was a failure. And that's okay. Because that happens sometimes in challenges, in intimidation, in ideas, in trying, and in life. I'm strangely at peace with this. (As a perfectionist, this is a strange emotion for me to have) I tried. I failed. And I learned from it.

With great pride I, @amandarhode, present this month's burger challenge using the secret ingredient: pears. Pictured above is my take on an Indian burger (sorry sacred cows) -- a curry burger topped with fried homemade paneer, roasted pear chutney, nestled between two pieces of garlic naan. The pear chutney and paneer were a labor of love but well worth the time and effort. I'm struggling to think of an adequate name for this burger, so please feel free to leave suggestions in the comments. I roasted Bosc pears in the oven with lemon juice, sugar, and cinnamon while I reduced down a mixture of onions, garlic, currants, raisins, spices, maple syrup, fresh ginger, and white wine vinegar. Once cooled I chopped up the pears, mixed them with the rest of the ingredients, and let the chutney sit overnight. I wound up adding a bit of @adoboloco's Bangkok hot sauce in the end to give it more acidity/spice since it was pretty sweet. It balanced it perfectly. The actual burger patty is your average 80/20 ground chuck beef (again, super sorry sacred cows) mixed with curry powder. I wanted a simple and subtle curry taste and this hit the spot. The paneer was homemade (and my first stab at making cheese at home!). It would have been better had I prepared the paneer the day before and let it sit overnight in the fridge to harden up -- I had a lot of crumbly bits that were sacrificed for snacking -- but was able to secure a few solid slices that I fried in the left over burger grease. I toasted the garlic naan in the oven and cut it down to size for the burger. It's almost April which means @malibukenny will be up to bat! I wonder what his secret ingredient will be...
I was going to post this yesterday, however since today is Super Bowl Sunday, I saved this delicious creation as my party flavor. I present to you, #loxbagel burger. The bun, NY style everything bagels, lightly toasted The patty, 3/4 lbs of salmon, hand-minced, added fresh dill, scallion, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, egg lightly beaten, and Panko, with salt and pepper seasoned to taste, grilled with butter. The topping, cream cheese, fresh chopped chive, chopped red onion, sour cream, and caper. NYC approved #bagel and #lox, guaranteed! #thegreatburgerchallenge #anyonecancook

Happy November and happy turkey weekend folks. What's the first thing comes to mind when you think #marshmallow? That's right, this month, I am presenting you, #smores burger, which is my version of #jucylucy, instead of cheddar ooze, it's marshmallow. To counter the sweetness, I added some Old Bay seasoning and pinch of salt on top of the marshmallow before wrapped up. The hamburger meat is mixed with seasoning and crushed graham cracker. As for the chocolate, obviously I went for a mole sauce recipe I have in my back pocket (not literally.) The finish product, sweet and savory meat, with smoky and teensy spicy sauce, on toasted dinner roll buns. I would pat myself on the back, but right now my hands are greasy and gooey and sticky #thegreatburgerchallenge #greatburgerchallenge #anyonecancook #smoresburger
